  • Chain attacks are pretty cool in this game and have a lot of interesting aspects to it that can make it very strong if understood properly. I hope this video can help you understand it better! Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

    One note worth adding, while positional arts get their bonus no matter what in chains, you still have to be standing in field effects to get their benefit. So if your party has any field placement arts that can be beneficial during a chain attack, consider using the Follow Leader command to group up before starting it.

    There's something important here that wasn't really gone over, and that's the damage modifier. Don't really blame Enel, as it's even more complicated and required some digging for me to figure out. Here is a brief explanation:
    -Hard Mode effectively halves your damage mod gains, so if you're playing on Hard and are wondering why you can't hit that 1000%+, there's your reason
    -You get an extra mod bonus for reaching Bravo and especially Amazing
    -You get a bonus for using "Special Pairs." This means either using the Order character's Ouroboros partner, or matching a Hero character with their Inheritor (e.g., using Eunie while either Taion or Ashera are giving the order will give a damage mod bonus, and vice versa)
    -Most mod bonuses are semi-random, but getting Special Pairs increases their min/max range
    Hopefully that made sense. This game is crazy deep and I love it for that!

  • @sinteleon
    @sinteleon Před rokem +66

    Some corrections: the random selection of characters takes from ALL used characters, not just characters used in a round. So unless you got back all your characters in the first round (By using Ashera), you likely have 5 characters used in the second round, of which only 2 would be attackers. It's very possible to get unlucky and only get back healers and messing up your chain.

    • @PeevedLatias
      @PeevedLatias Před rokem +2

      From my testing, everyone has slight but important stat differentials, up to roughly +/- 10% from a 'base stat' you could call it. I tested this around level 40 with everyone on level 10 Swordfighter, Zephyr, and Medic Gunner to make sure the relative stats were the same on every class.
      HP: Lanz > Sena > Noah > Mio > Taion > Eunie
      Attack: Sena > Lanz > Noah > Taion > Mio > Eunie
      Healing: Eunie > Taion > Noah > Sena > Mio > Lanz
      Dexterity: Taion > Noah > Mio > Eunie = Lanz > Sena
      Agility: Mio > Eunie > Noah = Sena > Lanz > Taion
      My main takeaways are that Eunie should always be a healer and Mio always a (dodge) tank, but aside from that it really seems quite flexible. I'm quite interested in trying Taion as a Jaguar at higher levels because of his surprisingly insane Dexterity and high starting TP for Chain Attacks.

    Having gotten a little further into the game with more classes and uroburos attacks, I have to say these are by far my favorite in the series. 1’s felt too random and poorly communicated. 2’s we’re fun, but trivialized a lot of the main game because of how easy they are to pull off. With 3, it’s just perfect. Very clear UI, requires strategy during the chain attack rather than just before it, doesn’t require never reviving a party member, and DPS that’s great, but not full burst levels of insanely busted. Not to mention the tutorials for it were so good that the only thing I was confused about was the ability to choose a character.

    What I would recommend for beginners to chain attacks is definitely Isurd, given he can garuntee a Bravo rating no matter what if he finishes a chain order, it’s a great crutch for people to use to get acquainted with the mechanics and he joins relatively early compared to Ashera and Segiri, other good chain attack heroes.

    • @33link333
      @33link333 Před rokem

      He also has a very high base TP at 40, and can be restocked unlike Ashera. He's really never a bad pick for chain attacks.

    • @catalyst539
      @catalyst539 Před rokem +3

      And then there’s the postgame Attacker hero.
      She…
      has a Chain Order that does the same as Eunie’s, dropping enemy Ether Defense by 50 percentage points;
      and has a Heroic Chain that makes it possible for another character to act even if she made the TP gauge exceed 100%.
      not to mention you’ll be listening to a banger battle theme.

    • @wesnohathas1993
      @wesnohathas1993 Před rokem

      Isurd is great if you want to use the same character every round because you can Bravo in two actions and get both back. This comes with the benefit of keeping TP low for the rest of the party, so you can use them all without going over in the final round when damage ratio is highest.

    This game’s chain attacks might lack the goofy little QTEs (for better or worse) but I think these have become my favorite in the series by far. Just when I think this mechanic couldn’t be more satisfying they top themselves yet again, in true Xenoblade fashion.

Teach is a discount Ashera with a similar effect when you use him in a chain attack, instead of getting a guaranteed 200 TP, you get 150, so for those not far enough along to get Ashera you can use Teach.

    Thanks for this. I initially was pretty underwhelmed by the chain attack system, as all I thought there was to it was:
    Use attacker first always -> use big numbers that won't go past 100% -> use healer to cap at 99% -> finish with whatever you have left -> repeat exactly the same every time
    I guess I should have known after casually playing the other two main entries that if a system seems that simple and boring it means that 1.) I just didn't understand it fully and should look up a CZcams video, and 2.) There are probably other mechanics that fit into the system which I don't have access to yet.
