The illegality of attacks on journalists and news media derives from the protection granted to civilians and civilian objects under international humanitarian law, and from the fact that the media, even when used for propaganda purposes, cannot be considered as military objectives except in special cases.
Casualties. As of 24 April 2024, over 35,000 people (34,262 Palestinian and 1,410 Israeli) have been reported as killed in the Israel-Hamas war, including 97 journalists (92 Palestinian, 2 Israeli and 3 Lebanese) and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, including 179 employees of UNRWA.
Israeli and foreign human rights groups have documented a long history of snipers firing on unarmed Palestinians, including children and teens, throughout Palestine, Gaza and the West Bank.

What Israel is doing in Gaza and Rafah is nothing short of criminality. Even if the Court has "no enforcement" provision, it is clear to the entire world, particularly to the enablers of genocide (USA, UK) , that these rulings are extremely serious. The countries that represent the rules-based order (USA,UK) are not above the law and cannot wriggle out of major international court rulings. Israel, as an occupying power, has no automatic right to "defend itself" - as the aggressor on Palestinian land. If Israel's Rafah operation was valid, either to eliminate Hamas or rescue the hostages, then the Court would not have ruled for its immediate cessation.
