I just purchased the same motor. Does it take a special "Mercury" fitting for the gas line connection at the motor or is it the typical one that so many outboards have as essentially "standard"?
Looks like lots of "residual" oil in the machine...needs a hard run to burn it out. If not then your mix is to heavy. Merc oil is noted for smoking more....slow speeds can make it build up. I use other oils synthetic and purple stuff....far less smoke, and trolling all day keeps a nice running motor. Careful with the carb kits some are junk.
recently was given a 1995 mercury outboard 8hp @10:58 the rod you are holding with right hand was just sitting inside it and I can not find a diagram as to show where it connects to under the pull start. Any help would be much appreciated. lol
@@chadschafer3890 lol kind of. It's the least of the problems as I can't even get it to spark. I put the project on the back burner as I had two other outboards to work on.
I know I should but it’s a brand new line and tank so I just take my chances. But you’re 100% correct. If I didn’t know the history of the fuel line. Gone. Quicksilver (mercury brand) still use and sell this junk everyday. Not sure the benefits of plastic core. Thanks for watching
The Quartermaster* Your video did not mention purchasing a carburetor rebuild kit. Nor did you show installing the new gasket or replacing the o ring and needle jet. You can not reuse the o ring or gasket! You did not even show gaping the new spark plugs to the manufacturers specs. This video gets an "f"
I always try to do a separate carb rebuild video of the projects I video. I did one for this motor. Give that video a watch and it might fill in some of the gaps I missed along the way. Thanks for watching

If I had money, I tell you what Id do. Id go downtown and buy a Mercury or two. Great video. Do a Johnson 9.9 next so I can fix my pos.

You will need a mercury specific connector for that motor.

It’s the recycling bin from the city I live in. It’s perfect for most smaller outboards.
Nice video! Can you please tell me, where the little hose under is used for? I forgot to putnit on and there was leaking fuel.
I believe that’s just a vent hose. I don’t think that would cause your problem. Probably the float is stuck is my guess

Get rid off that grey original mercury fuel hose ASAP!! it will deteriorate inside after it meets with fuel after long off time!
