First attempt at rebuilding a 1999 20hp Tracker Mercury. Made it talk. The rebuild was a success even tho its out of of my comfort zone. All engines are the same with a few minor adjustments or tweaks. Questions please ask. I may or may not have the answers. Thanks for watching and consider subscribing. A lot of time an effort goes into producing these videos. I appreciate the support and my loyal fans. More to come.... I plan on delving in the the more difficult aspects of Merc repairs.... Thanks for watching and stay tuned! Son
Thank you so much of the video. I'm rebuilding a WMC53A now for my little Merc. Installed it yesterday after rebuilding and didn't know to set the float. We'll see how it goes in a few hours. Really appreciate it!
Your vids have helped me a ton with my motor really appreciate it and hope you continue to make more
Thank you. Son
I took the carb from my 97 20 Mercury apart many many years ago (did I say Many?). This video helped me with assembling the primer and the fuel pump.
Haha 😂 when the carb went flying just awesome thanks for the video .
You saved my wallet once again from expensive shop fees! Fixing up my grandpas boat as he passed away a few years ago. Has a 20hp Mercury on it that was used twice since he bought it brand new. Even had the original spark plugs in it still. Thank you!
Great videos, I wish I had the opportunity to work by your side and try to pick up on all the knowledge you have. I’m a mechanic by trade just not boat motors. Learning from you.
I'm still learning. The information is endless. Thank you. Son
I need assistance if you don't mind (posted below as well). Re-installed after adjusting the float. Squeeze the build and you can hear the fuel going into the bowl. Fires up, idles fine, but then leans out and dies. Keep squeezing the bulb and it runs. At a loss and appreciate your advice. JR.
Does the rebuild kit come with the be be? If not where do I get one from that seems to be the problem with mine
New sub; great video!! Which gasket did you use for the carb to engine?? In the rebuild kit they included 2 - do they stack? - 1 has a hole and one has a slot- 1996 25hp 2 stroke merc). Mine chirps / missies every 2-5 seconds - think it’s possibly sucking air - thanks for your help!

A little late to the party.... But I have the same question ... 2 gaskets come in the kit... Which One is used in between carb and engine... Round hole or rectangle... I pulled off both.. but not sure if both are needed..any body got a clue?
I am wondering the same thing as I got that ebay kit. When I took carb off it only had the rectangle one there, it did not have the round hole one fitted. I even checked around engine for signs old round gasket. So I am ready to bolt back to engine. I am going to try stack them together, what is worst that can happen and have to remove one depending on how it runs
I see your rebuild kit also came with two carb mounting gaskets. Did you use the circular cut one or the rectangular cut one? Or stacked?
Rectangular if my memory serves me well. Son
What rebuild kit did you use?
You don't happen to have the part number for the gasket kit you used by chance do you? I'm having a hard time finding a kit

Noticed the 80's era Mercs in the background, do you collect those? I got a 35hp 85model complete, not locked up, spare parts... I made it run with its own starter a few years ago, but I just need to sell it. Drop me an email if you want some pics or know where to sell it, anything... its cool but i would just trash it up, haha
I do collect those unfortunately. Thank you haha. Son
I just bought a 2002 25 hp Mercury. It wasn't getting fuel. I discovered that the primer diaphragm was stiff and deteriorated. I have a replacement ordered. Should I assume that the carb diaphragm is bad too and go ahead and rebuild the carb? Engine has low hours, carb is clean, but it's been sitting for at couple of years or more.
Check the main jet. Son
Performed a carb rebuild same kit has you have. Gas is coming out of the small vent tube at the front of the carburetor. It goes to the crankcase in 2 places with a small hose that tees. Not sure why gas would be spraying out of that vent and flooding the crankcase.
Floats are set incorrectly my friend. Son
First off thanks so much for the video. I have that exact same carburetor that I am trying to rebuild but... alas, I have lost my BB! Does anybody know the diameter of it or where I can get a replacement BB? I would very much appreciate any help or info somebody could give me. Thanks very much.
Yea, that's a very important piece. You may be able to purchase a an overhaul carb kit. It may have what you are looking for my friend. Son
I would like to know where you buy your kits at I've looked everywhere I have a 84 mercury 25 xd
I honestly just look at the carbs then look at the diaphragms. If it matches I buy it. I'm not good with part numbers because the change depending on the suppliers. Son
I have a merc 90hp 2stroke. No spark. have had multiple mechs look no solution. I have a few questions. Can I email or PM you and ask a question?
What's your email? Son
Hello! How does the 2004 20hp and 25hp 2-stroke mercuries differ from each other? Is the whole carb different or can the 20hp be bumped up to 25hp by replacing jet, needle or other carb parts?
They are more than likely the same. However, switching to a higher hp carb will not give you more hp. Son
@@MerCSonL6 why isnt ? is there some other constricts?
@jrppemarti9762 jetted different and engine is ported different as well.
Hola que numero chicle lleva 15hp
Hi I’m looking for a brand new carb all together .. do you happen to have the part # of the carb would really help me
Unfortunately I do not. This was my first crack at these. Son
Any chance you have info where to order a rebuild kit?
amzn.to/3PSM5fu
Are you sure that you put fuel pump gasket and diaphragm correctly?? I have seen other direction...first gasket then diaphragm and then cover
Not 100%. But engine starts on the first pull every time. This was my first time rebuilding one of these. Son
Hello Son. I have a tiger block 950 ss I need help with. I just need to know how to time it. Thanks
Should be a dot or 3 dots on the flywheel. Those should be aligned with the TDC on your upper cowling. Using a timing light set the idle and throttle stops (on the distributor) and get said dots to hit specified timing for each max and idle. Son
@@MerCSonL6 you have a video where you don’t use a timing light just a spark detector. Would that work with this motor ?
@@williamriddle9845 czcams.com/video/OUFXaNgk0Xk/video.html
@@williamriddle9845 the timing marks in this video are on the flywheel vs the cowling but the principles are the same. Just make sure your keyswitch is in the "on" position and your spark tester is properly grounded. Son
@@MerCSonL6 thank you. I’ve been looking all over for information. Thank you Son. keep up the great video.
Was your motor running poorly before the fix?
Was not running at all my friend
Hey I have same engine, when it starts it runs smoothly but once warmed up. Can't get it started again for week for the life of it. I can't seem to figure out what it is, got any pointers?
Check the entire fuel system from the pick up to the carbs. Also verify you have spark on all 4 cylinders. Engines only need 3 things to run: compression, fuel, and spark
Need to pay more attention to disassembly, overall helpful however, a bit disconcerting as you seem to stumble with locating the obvious bolt holes.
dont get me started on how you treated the new gaskets
The engine runs perfectly. Client 100% satisfied. Thank you for your input. This is my first time rebuilding these.... only to be put down by your comments. I work on engines ranging a 70 year span. I'm sure you do the same. Unsubcribe. Son
GuruNishnosh Muz. I can tell by your username that your affluent in bullshit. MerCSonL6 is helping the world for FREE. WTF are u doing?! Helping NishNosh?!?!?!!? Good work buddy. Find someone else to help you with your engine issues. Also, they make engines for REAL men.
I must confess to being an asshole and apologise. My comment more closely reflects my own struggle with my own carby.
also left out the spring on the primer
Stop watching. The engine starts on the first pull every time. You are very inconsiderate. Son
My apologies for being so rude and disrespectful, I was not in the best state of mind when I commented.
Kindest regards, Muz
Also, after watching your video and ones like it,mine also starts first pull.
Thank you
