Queen - "We Will Rock You" vs. "Queen Rock Montreal"

  • This video is a comparison between 2 releases of Queen's Montreal 1981 concerts.
    The footage was wonderfully remastered in 2001 and released as "We Will Rock You" on DVD. For some strange reason it was remastered in 2007 again and released by Eagle Rock on both DVD and Bluray.
    While I must admit the new 2007 release has much better audio mix, the colours on the new release are horrible. HORRIBLE.I have created this comparison video after reading some discussions on www.queenzone.com - on the top part of the screen you can see the original 2001 version, on the bottom you can see the new "remastered" 2007 version. Judge yourself.
    I am sharing only random parts of the footage, as this is meant to be an "educational" video and not a pirate release, but if you want to see a specific song let me know in the comments and I'll try to upload it.

    Saw this tour in Omaha when I was 7. I had every Queen album and my mom took me. It was general admission so we were there at about 11 AM. I'd waited all day to see Freddie Mercury and I distinctly remember hearing that "drone" keyboard sound that you hear in this video at 1:00...it was so dramatic like going uphill at the beginning of a roller coaster. Except at our show they started with "Jailhouse Rock" and *then* went into the fast version of "We Will Rock You" :)

    Version 2007 looks like all the lights dropped dead and only yellow left to work. Sometimes, green light starts working again and yellow drops dead.
    I like 2001 version more. They should correct it only when they were showing crowd. There we can see them.

    because the we will rock you dvd (2001) has a lot overdubs, so queen remastered it and remove some overdubs and added pitch correction

    At first the upper video quality looked much better, but look during Killer Queen - the 2007 picture is much more sharp and better lit. Then, during I'm In Love With My Car, when the lights change and focus goes on Roger - the 2001 looks better again.

    I used to have this on video in the late 80s .I could swear that Freddie's voice could be heard while his lips were not moving from time to time on certain songs, I'm not for one minute suggesting he was lip syncing must have been something to do with the edit.

    • @queenremix1353
      @queenremix1353 Před 2 lety +2

      @@drimmie Actually Killer Queen is from the same night, there was a video editing on the old release it's still from the second night, you might ask for evidence and I'll provide it, on the first night Freddie had a towel on the left side of the piano which he didn't on the second night, and also the cups remain in the same position, two big cups in the front and 2 small at the back.

  • @SuperSM96
    @SuperSM96 Před 3 lety +1

    IMHO the worst thing about the 2007 release is not even the colors (I can pretend they are due to the lighting). It's the terrible contrast. In many places, the shadows seem heavily lifted while the highlights are pushed down. Often, I feel like I am watching a video with a "log/flat" image profile. Not to mention that it's very inconsistent.
    I am really puzzled as to how the 2007 release was deemed production quality. I realised something was off literally the first seconds of the first low resolution clip I saw on CZcams (before I even saw the Blu-ray). Very disappointing considering they had the original camera negative, which is literally the best source you can have. At least the audio is great, which is probably the most important for a concert film.

    I owned this video and there was another error in "Killer Queen" I noticed where audio of Freddie singing was heard but his lips didn't move and it obviously wasn't sung. That makes perfect sense that they used audio from different nights sometimes
