This guy didn't care about the trial. He was there to defend his profession against the unethical and scientifically questionable testimony and practices of the discount Dr Doofenshmirtz impostor who testified yesterday. He did a great job too. The best way to discredit some "expert" is to bring on an actual expert with more publications than most people have traffic tickets, who tells the "expert" that they are an idiot.

The logic that Johnny’s alleged abuse would somehow justify Amber’s more severe verbal and physical abuse goes both ways.

Yesterday we saw how a psychiatrist should NOT be, today we saw and heard how a true professional who likely cares about patients and helps sounds. As someone who has seen many and had the bad and the good, I’ve learned to pick up the differences.

This guy is pure class. When he gave the measles example to explain to everyone I actually understood what he was talking about even though the topic is very confusing with allot of big jargon words. It was super interesting and I felt like I learned something
correlation is coincidental, causation is the actual cause or part of the cause of something happening. So explaining it like kids getting measles because they're in a risk group being correlation and not causation works pretty well, because it's not because they're young that they got it, but they were just at a higher risk to get it.
I know I repeated it, but that helps me sort information in my own head xD.
That's just something that comes with practice in teaching (for good teachers at least). He's been doing this shit for over 3 decades, teaches classes, and does all this stuff that by now, he knows exactly how to explain something such that people with no idea about the topic will be able to understand. This is how you spot a real expert rather than someone who gives an opinion and then gives an explanation that confuses you so that you just agree cus your head hurts.
Other one I heard was ice cream and drowning. Both go up together, but ice cream doesn’t make you drown.
Without a good explanation it can be really tricky, and you can tell he’s a lecturer because he explained it professionally and clearly.
I knew what correlation and causation were off the top of my head, purely because my biology teacher loved to pull up a graph displaying the rate of divorce and the rate of marmite sales, stressing that neither has anything to do with the other even though the figures seem to add up. Stuck with me for years.

By the 5 minute mark, I thought this guy was an absolute legend. By minute 20, I realised I had massively underestimated him!
This is my favorite video yet, this legend just comes in and basically says "not only did that "expert" psychiatrist violate a fundamental rule of the profession but so did many of Heard's "expert" doctors." Slayed.
This guy is like Gandalf after he was resurrected or something. He's like the Dumbledore of the psychiatric world.

TLDR, psychiatrist is LITERALLY out here doing God's work helping children with serious and various medical problems throughout treatment. At the same time counseling the parents of said children to cope with the trauma they're experiencing.
Amber Heard and her team should feel like shit for taking hours out of his day, keeping him from REAL patients, to prove that AH is a POS.
He is a rare gift to humanity. Intelligent, compassionate, principled, and thoughtful.

I have done and administered the MMSE test mentioned at 34:05, it is administered to people with memory problems, like Alzheimer's and such. The three word question thing, is just ONE of the 10 or 11 questions in the test, if you fail it you would lose just 3 points in total out of 30 points. It is TOTALLY NORMAL for ordinary people to fail in one or two of the questions in that test, wholly or partially simply due to anxiety or whatever. Especially when its the three word question that also personally tripped me up when the test was done to myself during my education. I could not remember all the three words either, since its kind of a clever way the test does it on you. It is not repeating the three words, its remembering three words in correct order further down the line in the test after you think that question has been done and dusted, you are suddenly forced to recall something you might not considered important a moment ago. Its a gotcha moment in the test and it shows NOTHING as standalone if failed! If the rest of the questions are fine, it is worth considering only when subject starts having problems with large parts of rest of the questions too.
That Dr.Spiegel guy was CLEARLY meant as a damn trap for Depp. The biggest problem with him is that he is not some neutral court appointed psychiatrist, he is a psychiatrist appointed by Amber Heard who is getting paid by her! How nobody would see that as anything as attempt to legitimize smearing Depp's character is a fool or a liar.

@@thestraightroad305 Sure, np. Yea it has questions such as: What is the name of the location you are in now (like town or city)? What is the date today? Who is the current president? What floor you are on now? Can you draw this pattern by using only straight lines and without raising the pen (like a cube or something similar iirc)?
After the first few questions, the interviewer suddenly says (according to the test) to memorize these 3 (short) words: like "dinner-laughing-yellow" or something similar, i don't have them memorized).
Then the test continues for like 5 or 6 questions and among the few last questions the test goes, by the way: Can you repeat the three random words you were supposed to memorize a while ago?
It is really dishonest not telling that it is completely normal for people to fail like 1-3 of these questions AND even if more questions are failed, the correct medical advice is to run MORE memory tests before drawing ANY conclusions, especially when this would be the very first time the subject got a such a test administered to him and does not have any previous memory diagnosis. Obviously it goes without saying that the subject also needs to be 100% sober for this test even to be considered.
Wow that is fascinating. What a complex field. I can see how someone who really wants to misrepresent evidence can make a wilderness out of this by leaving pieces out and subtly twisting things. It is obvious how and why the true expert wanted to speak truth into this situation and restore the integrity of his profession.
plus Johnny was up all night the day before and may or may not have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs, before doing the actual test, also you could feel pressured during those 5 minutes to remember those words and pressure can make you nervous.
I often forget things quickly so i repeat them to myself out loud for a 30s to a minute
This guy basically did on average 2 manuscripts, a book chapter & almost 2 depositions every year for his whole career on top of all his clinical & medical work

Yeah, don't confuse the 2, psychiatrists and psychologists hate each other. Look up APA (American Psychiatric Association) vs APA (American Psychological Association), they're like children 🤣
Psychiatrist= requires a doctorate, they are physicians, can prescribe medicines and do more study related work with use of statistics and analysis, usually not trained in psychotherapy.
Psychologist= does not require a doctorate, trained in at least one form of psychotherapy, usually can't prescribe medicines but can in certain jurisdictions if they go through training, trained in administration of diagnostic testing and the analysis and interpretation of said tests.
There's a ton of overlap, but psychiatrist deal with more of the physical brain while psychologists deal more with the effects of the brain.
You nailed it with school shootings. The media coverage is making other suicidal nut jobs think it's their ticket to fame and immortality. I respect your decision to report it without giving attention to the perpetrator.

Johnny Depp is the very antithesis of a narcissist. He does NOT want attention from others. His fame does not feed his ego, quite the opposite. He is also genuinely caring and compassionate toward others. He gives generously to others. "Jealousy" or concern for the woman he loves and her reputation? Johnny is probably the least narcissistic person in that courtroom.
I love when *actual* *experts* show up and literally says many things and we learn from them a lot.

It's nice to see an actual EXPERT in psychiatry, not the lunatic that was on the stand the other day. We get to hear a professional in his field that answered each question in a clear, even tone, and kept on point with his answers. Hell, "doctor" Speigel couldn't be bothered to comb his hair, how could the defense think he was an expert?
This man is the real deal. Obviously, Very educated and extremely knowledgeable in his specific field of expertise and the countless branches off that tree.
I as well feel I learned a lot from listening to him.

Absolutely. The terrible system and media take no credit for what happens, and then try to bash us over the head wanting our laws to be more like Chicago or Detroit in order to "stop shootings".
How about they stop giving shooters fame and we see what happens instead?
On top of that, the public school system is notoriously bad at actually taking care of kids / etc, and a lot of times these people get reported on continuously with nothing actually done about it. It's our system failing in the first place, and they think it'll be fixed by depending even more on the system. The only thing it'd change is disarming the people who are the ones we want to be armed. There are so many cases of crimes being stopped because the right people were armed and ready, and they NEVER discuss that. It's actually an insane amount of crimes prevented because people have weapons to protect themselves and others. Anyone who is curious about it, I'd definitely recommend researching into it, because when I saw the numbers for myself I was shocked.
Personally, I always prefer the crime channels that talk about the VICTIMS and their stories over people who go on and on about the killers. We should scrub the killers' names and photos from history - it's probably the one time I'd be okay with censorship. Maybe keep that information somewhere for reference or something, for research purposes for people actually in those fields, but don't publicize it all over the place.
The things Rottenborn is objecting to (when the expert was comparing jealously and envy, when he likened the test to taking someone's temperature) are literally things experts are taught to do in order to make the information more digestible and relatable to the jury. They're taught to use common examples in order to help the jury understand concepts they're unfamiliar with. Essentially, Rottenborn doesn't want the jury to understand the processes that are being described. Or, in Asmon's words, "Objection: they're using facts, Your Honor, and it makes my client look bad."
I worked in mental health for over 10 years, and this might be the first guy anyone has put on the stand who comes off like a real psychiatrist or psychologist who takes their job seriously. He’s like one of the doctors who studied LSD in the 50s and 60s in Saskatchewan trying to find a cure for alcoholism. Seems like a good shrink.

Surprised you would use the word "shrink" being someone who worked in the field for 10 years. I've been in the field for 7 years myself and that term seems a bit outdated and almost hollywood-ized, if you will.
@@MrPeabody67 the studies went well. I cant point out papers right now but as far as im aware there are practices that already use lsd and psilocybin in therapy. It lowers the ego and allows the patient to be far more open which is obviously beneficial when talking about anything traumatic. Johns Hopkins University have published a lot about it. Im sure they have youtube videos about it too.

The fact that this uber-prepared expert with a brutal amount of knowledge gets objected every time he is about to explain in great and precise detail just WHY the previous evaluations of Dr.Schmeagol were wrong, and that objection is actually sustained, just explains how much unable the judiciary can be to process very deep, specialized amounts of information.
To be fair, it might not even hurt Depp's side that much since his experts really show they're experts through their in-depth explanations and clear and concise reasoning, but at the same time, that takes up a lot of time so perhaps AH's lawyers are doing them a solid by allowing them to move on and have more time for other things since the expert has already made their points more clearly than anyone on AH's side.
To be fair, there are times where he did go beyond the scope of the question, although I wanted him to keep going, because he is so interesting and calm.
Also, I feel like the judge has done a pretty good job so far at being unbiased.
Also I think it gives an opportunity to depp's team to reframe their questions and dig in

I disagree on the judiciary part. In all honesty, they likely know of this information, either because it was testified before, they found out of own volition, they were required to by a professor who so happens to emphasize on psychology as well, or just...common sense. And by common sense, I meant that while his information is insightful, it's insightful when we're trying to learn psychology, not when we're participating in a court case that's running out of time. The room's about law, not necessarily psychology.
This was so satisfying to see someone with this many accolades call the previous psych out for being unethical. The previous guy's mental gymnastics and defensiveness were huge red flags.
I'm glad we here in NZ were blessed to have Dr. Shaw among us for a time. He expressed how unfortunate Spiegel's actions were and how it will affect practitioners in his field, but he never degraded the man. He never outrightly condemned Spiegel, this he left open for the jury to decide.
Dr. Shaw is the kind of doctor I'm glad we have in this crazy world ❤️

For anyone who's wondering what the difference between envy and jealousy is, its this: Envy is coveting what someone else has that you don't (e.g. you can be envious of your neighbour's new car, or of the money someone else makes, or of someone else's degree of success comparative to your own). Jealousy is the fear or suspicion that you have lost or are losing what you have to someone else (e.g. you can be jealous of your newborn sibling getting attention from your parents that was previously solely directed toward you, or of someone you suspect your partner of having an affair with, etc.). The two words are often confused with one another because in common, day-to-day speech we have a tendency to use them synonymously, but in clinical psychology and clinical psychiatry the two are clearly delineated from one another and any 1st-year undergrad student of psychology would be able to articulate the difference so it's pretty unreasonable for a supposed expert to confuse the two.
Ironically, I learnt this the other day from a Simpson's shorts where Homer explains to Lisa the difference between jealousy and Envy.
Now this is a Expert with over 35 years in his field. He is such a breath of fresh air.
Been loving the judge for this whole trial but she gave WAY too much leeway to AHs team here with respect to objections. I understand most of court proceedings comes down to how stuff is worded and such, but not allowing him to continue his examples under the grounds that he “proved his point and already did that”? That was goofy as hell

I read somewhere else that speculates the judge being lenient with AH to basically cancel any attempts for AH team to plead judge bias. She lets them short victories in exchange for less longterm gain after the trial.
Thank God for a real Dr. that shows compassion to his patients. I highly relate as a parent with a son that has autism and several delays plus adhd. It is very hard not receiving support from professionals it can be emotionally draining not knowing how to help your child. 💔
I can relate, it took 5 years to get a diagnosis of autism for my daughter, passed from pillar to post. Got there in the end but she leave school in a year
My son is non verbal autistic and ADHD it's really hard it's not easy. I know after my boys were in nicu I struggled for a long time mentally in the UK the care isn't good for parents x

I've been a fan of this judge throughout this trial despite the fact I feel she gave amber heards lawyers too much leeway. But sustaining an objection to the doctor describing a psychiatric test is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it was because he was using a metaphor but even then, I don't see how a psychiatric expert can't try to explain a complex concept in layman's terms. I think she was completely wrong about this one. I also don't understand why he couldn't comment on the medical records while spiegel was allowed to use it in his testimony. It's absolutely ridiculous, at the least they should have been allowed to lay the foundation by referring to the records and what they say.
I couldn’t agree more. Yet she let Sméagol go on outrageous tangents that went nowhere for what felt like hours, again felt as if nothing was said and make wild accusations about Depp.

ehh, I saw nothing wrong...he compared a test to taking a person's temperature. alot of what happens in a court room revolves around language. you say the wrong thing and good lawyers find a way to stop the line of questions. also I'm pretty sure the judge let the other "expert" just dig a hole for himself and amber

I absolutely love this witness, he knows what he is talking about and he can relay his knowledge and professional opinions on a somewhat tricky subject *psychiatry* in a way that everyone in the room and everyone that is watching can digest easily and understand. Usually you find experts using big exaggerated words, and he is very very well spoken with out having to use huge words or knowledge bravado on his profession... great witness!

23:46 yes. This exact thing happens with Dr. Spiegel from yesterday. He had a client who was suicidal, the family reached out for help and he never respomded, and the client committed suicide. So interesting that he brought that up.
To touch on what the doctor was saying about the difference between envy and jealousy, which is an important distinction, especially when it comes to a clinical diagnosis:
Envy is a strong - often pathological - desire for what someone else has that you do not, whereas jealousy is being overly protective of what you have due to fear it will be taken from you.

He as kept himself involved and moved forward with changes in his field. Spiegal seems to have kept himself in work with his outdated learning.Both being experts and can make a great impact on patients is scary
The pledge did have a time limit according to the divorce agreement. The $3.5 million was never to be dragged out. Amber was to DONATE the money as soon as she received the $7 million from JD. Let’s be real. Amber never intended to donate $7 million.

Just picked this up on rewatch - Dr Shaw here says he's a member of the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. This makes him a perfect rebuttal witness for Dr Spiegel, because Spiegel also works in the field of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. Dr Shaw also knows what the ethical rule of the AMA is, which Dr Spiegel implied that he did not.
Again, all the props to Depp's team for selecting very very good expert witnesses.
He's also clearly been picked to remind us in the court of public opinion that a) Amber didn't donate to a children's hospital and b) Johnny Depp was once the parent of a very sick child, when Lily-Rose Depp was in kidney failure when she was little. He and Vanessa didn't know if she would live.
He has spoken about this in interviews, about the empathy he has for parents. Those who know that will be reminded of it by what this doctor said about the trauma parents go through, and will remember why the children's hospital of LA was so important to Johnny.
This Doctor is the most laid back, Confidence oozing, Down to earth , Knowledgeable and Professional person i have seen during this travesty perpetrated against Mr Depp..

It's so refreshing and enlightening when a REAL expert witness is called to the stand. There's no posturing or self entitlement attitude that we, lay persons, have to contend with.
These lawyers do very well with trying to silence the witnesses when the witness is doing a good job discrediting their side. This doesn't feel like "justice" to me at all. I thought this man was the voice of reason, why are we objecting?
