Couples counseling is not necessary part of one-on-one therapy sessions with patients dealing with trauma and abuse. Perhaps she figured you have unresolved marriage issues instead of actual trauma from abuse and wanted to gain some insight on how things actually are working out and what steps could be made to determine progress. But it is not absolutely necessary to evaluate couples together to determine wether someone is suffering from abuse or is borderline sociopath with some fantasies.

As a person trying to become a psychologist and therapist, this is a disgrace. Hughes is incredibly biased and emotional, she says she has an incredibly amount of experience but it doesn't feel like it. On her website has a picture of her therapy room. It is FLAUNTED with, in sigh, at least 6 degrees and or achievements. When Hughes talks to someone in trauma with only 1 seat and her on a "wheelie" chair, yes thats actually her chair, Hughes has 6 framed achievements all behind the patients. As my own opinion and how a therapy room is set up, this is incredibly disgraceful and it is like saying "I am better than you... fuck you."
Now that I am more awake and have a little bit of time, here is an edit. For the people not understanding what I mean by this it is because the therapy room is the first thing that starts to build the rapport with the patient. In order for the patient to open up completely and trust you, you need to build that trust. Therefore, you need a therapy room that makes it feel like a second home, a safe space. Dr. Hughes therapy room has a weird looking chair and a 1930s looking couch. As well if I really want to say, the lightning in the room is dim and could bring some depressing atmosphere (but that could have been to take a good picture of the room). As well, the achievements on the wall are the biggest problem, they can cause a demoralizing effect on people, make the trauma victims of abuse think that the abuser was right when they say "you will never amount to anything." I am not saying it is a problem to show your diploma, but what I am saying is that it is a problem to show 6 of them, hovering around the patient like multiple flies around a homeless man.

I think one line of questioning I would have asked: when she says that most of the legal settings she's given her professional opinion for are cases that don't end up going to court, which is why she doesn't often testify in court. I would have asked to clarify whether these cases don't go to court because they are unable to go to court, or if it's because they are simply settled outside of court. If they are simply settled out of court, then you can ask whether she uses different standards for her work based on whether the case is already in court vs whether the case only has the potential to go to court.

No matter who wins, the consequences of this trial may actually be a lot bigger than people think and I'm almost certain that JD actually hoped to get those consequences and not an outright win, since he's been the victim OF that bias.

THIS SUPPOSED Dr. Huges ALWAYS REFERS TO ANY VICTIM OF IPV AS SHE AND 90% OR MORE PERCENT OF THE TIME THE ABUSER AS HE. THERE WASN'T A SINGLE CASE OF FEMALE - MALE IPV WHERE SHE IDENTIFIED THE MALE AS THE VICTIM!! THE ONLY TIMES SHE IDENTIFIED MALES AS VICTIMS OF IPV WAS IF IT WAS A CHILD OR MALE ON MALE VIOLENCE!! THE ONLY TIMES SHE IDENTIFIED FEMALES AS AGRESSORS OR INSTIGATORS OF VIOLENCE WAS IN SAME SEX RELATIONSHIPS WHERE IT WAS TWO WOMEN - ONLY THEN A WOMAN WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE PERPETRATOR OF THE VIOLENCE!! NOT ONCE IN ALL OF HER "HUNDREDS OF EVALUATIONS OF IPV" BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN DID SHE EVER SAY SHE IDENTIFIED THE WOMAN AS THE PERPETRATOR - THAT JUST ISN'T STATISTICAL POSSIBLE UNLESS THERE'S CLEAR BIAS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING BEFORE SHE'S EVER MET THE PARTIES!! It has all the drapings of such works of art. Background dark enough to make a man weep, a system so twisted and bent by years of false assumptions and poor practices that corruption is both blatant and treated as if it was expected, characters so inept and evil that you can't help but laugh every time they appear... This is just what people do when they are experienced with testifying in court. You can tell when someone is inexperienced because they will look at the person who asked the question and ignore the jury when they give their answer.

"So you have only defended women?"
"No, I did defend men, but only in same sex relationships where there was no woman to back up, sadly."
