Over a few days I had to get new timber on board, putting the galley back together and applying some varnish. Also Rob and I line up for our next cruise
No matter what some perennial miseries keep saying (and we all know who I’m talking about) the boat is really coming along nicely and I love all the work and attention to detail you have put in to the Mitch units. Well done James 😊
Definitely put sink in front of window. Makes the boring chore of doing dishes more pleasurable. Cabinet fronts are looking very nice sir! Can't wait until doors and counters are on. It will look fantastic. You'll need to clean the front of fridge and washer so everything looks picture perfect!
It's coming together nicely. Sink under the window with a right hand drainer. That way you can bring hot pans directly from hob to drainer. And you get a decent view when at the sink.
James, I’ve not seen a single sheet sand paper anywhere. If you haven’t, give each coat of of varnish a very light sweep with a very fine sandpaper before applying the next coat to smooth it off (de-nibbling) which will give you a much shinier finish.
You and I will be happy when you only have one boat to worry about. 🤣 You have done a fantastic job working out the cabinet details!!! Can’t wait to see the countertops!! The sink in the center will give you more space for prep work when cooking. Thank you for sharing and looking forward to the next step in this project.
Yeah Rob will be happy too !! I’ve got the sink coming in the next couple days and I’m going to start to get the countertops in the place this week and cut to size Tomorrow I’m making one of two more pocket doors Have a lovely weekend
TBH it's a good thing you broke that now, rather than later on. I hope you reinforce it really well, as there will be a risk of it happening again in normal use.
The terminology does the job it's supposed to do: using words to convey a meaning which I at least can understand. I suspect i am not alone in this regard. Perhaps "professionals" have their own archaic terms, guarding their masonic brotherhood with arcane terms from the middle ages. Well, that's fascinating and good on 'em for it. But equally, it's refreshing sometimes to see and hear a non-professional working things out for himself and taking us along for the ride, with all its ups and downs
It's looking fab, James. I Have A Question: You showed us the little curved braces at the top of the glassfibred corners. Could you cut a full length corner brace to stick to the insides ?
But where space is very limited, a Belfast sink would be an unnecessary and expensive luxury. There are great options out there for 'homes with limited space' like narrowboats.
I'm no expert but personally I think the sink smack bang in the middle would be better. Having off centre to the window would mess with my equilibrium lol x
The new cabinet does look better, especially as you've applied the varnish. I agree with the placement of the sink and agree that the Belfast (which we call a farm sink) would look good and be useful, as it seems deep. Question: Is the fan on the fireplace/stove supposed to make that noise (like the blades are hitting something)? As always, James, well done. You are creating a beautiful home. Leigh
Not how I would have done it but I must admit it looks very good, sink in middle of window, imho. Now you say sink in the middle, may I suggest a stainless steel sink as a Belfast sink would be very heavy and although the cabinets are looking good they may not support a Belfast sink, maybe
I’m just trying to figure out why you are building the cabinets backwards. The front decorative bit that you have installed should be the last thing that gets fabricated/attached.
James, after copious comments and much time you eventually saw the light and agreed the ceiling construction using those PVC sheets was a pile of shite and abandon the idea in favour of a more traditional construction. Likewise, when are you going to see the light and abandon your "absolutely wacky" method of building kitchen cabinets? Even the terminoloy you use viz "shore up" is absolutely nonsense 😮😊
The grain pattern on that new panel is really lovely James.
That is a beautiful piece of wood. It has the storm on Jupiter! Happy Accidents.

Well done has always James good job tc theoldies 🤗👍🌟
Top Sink tip. just make sure the draining board is towards the front so water drains into the sink and not flow over the work top.

The hands of a hardworking Man pleased to see it finally taken shape James 🛠️
The curved reinforcement pieces you put inside the curved wood , genius at work there James .
A genius at work is a brain surgeon or rocket scientist!
@@alanrichardson1672 why would you say this ? I was paying James a compliment on his work .

Brilliant James, love your tenacity. Take care and enjoy the countryside.

We call them worktops this side of the pond! 👍
@@alanrichardson1672does it matter?

You’ll need some worktop either side of the sink to stack dirty on one side and clean on the other. So mid window is favourite.
Hi James.
Make sure to carry the fibreglass well beyond the thin part of the plywood. That was where you went wrong last time...
All the best, mate.

USA Georgia Must have been rough having broken your hard work, this looks much better to me. Great work..
Great vlog , love the work you are doing.
Great job on the fix of the cabinet James.
Amazing what a difference varnish makes!
Gonna look bloody lovely James , glad it broke now 😀
Well done with the cabinet doing well 😊

See what you mean about the grain, it looks good especially the lighter look rather then darker 😉👍
Nice work James mate. Sink in the middle of the window would look right 👍
Interested to see what sink and 'countertop' you get (one for Marlon, there!) It's really starting to take shape.
I know it's pricey but a Belfast sink would be great. Always look nice
Keep going chap, it's going to be great ❤

Magnificent woodwork James! So, it was a good thing the bad thing happened?
The bad thing needs to happen many, many more times! 😂
Middle of window giving room for working space either side. Also my natural light for washing dishes. Any help.James .
Oi, I heard that 🤣
There's no video evidence of you ever using any of our coal. I swear you use it for ballast 😜

Yeah I know I’m kinda doing it backwards. Learning mate
He is building in a totally unorthodox way because he doesn't know any better and doesn't want to heed any advice given! 😮
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I do think the overall look that you’re going for is pretty amazing, just to be clear!
