ULTIMATE Polish Silesian FOOD FEAST In Katowice!! (Chata z Zalipa)

- My travels in Europe bring me to a local traditional Polish restaurant in Katowice called chata z zalipia. As I usually do on my travels I like to go to traditional old style wooden restaurants preferably in villages and indulge in local food. In this video I arrive at a restaurant in Poland which was in the city but as son as I walked in it reminded me of the old village style restaurants I would usually visit on my travels. This restaurant was catchy to my eye from the outside as I approached it the nice colourful decorations stood out as I walked in I was fascinated by the old folk wooden architecture. Inside the restaurant the hospitality of the service was really welcoming and I was recommended to order a traditional regional local Polish Silesian speciality. As for starters I was given a few slices of Bread with a handmade pork spread. On the menu was so much to chose from but I order a traditional Polish soup with smoked sausages inside with a boiled eggs and some potatoes, the soup had a smoked flavour with a taste of garlic. Then I had a local traditional Polish Silesian plate which was a rolled beef meat with a cabbage Silesian dumplings with a delicious homemade gravy. With this meal I ordered a Ococim beer. For my main course I order a traditional Polish platter it was so huge it arrived on a big wooden plate which came with a rolled up fried chicken in breadcrumbs, a fried potato pancakes with a cream mushroom gravy on the top, some boiled potatoes, and a selection of pierogi, fried cheese in breadcrumbs, pancake with spinach inside and pork ribs, Silesian beef roll, and red cabbage. Problem polega na tym że jeżeli masz coś na co dzień to tego nie doceniasz, jak zaczyna Ci tego brakować to patrzysz na to inaczej :D

Od 30 lat zyje poza Polska, za oceanem. Zdecydowanie Polacy w Polsce nie powinni miec kompleksow. Odwiedzam Polske co jakies 5 lat i to co sie tam stalo przez te 30 lat jest zadziwiajace. Caly Zachod przez te 30 lat z wielkim samozaparciem sie stacza. Polska staje sie coraz piekniejsza.

Polish smalec (SMAH-lets) is a salty spread-made from rendered white pork fat flavored with onion, garlic, spices, and sometimes chopped apple-that varies from region to region. Sometimes skwarki (pork cracklings) are added for extra crunch.

Weź chopie powiedź babie że jak Ci w niedziela nie uwarzy śląskiego łobiadu z rosołem, kluskami, roladą i modrą kapustą to ją z doma wyciepniesz.
W sensie - może tego nie rób - ale na śląsku nie do pomyślenia żeby baba nie zrobiła chopowi takiego obiadu w niedzielę 🙂

Hey man! The starter - it's smalec, or lard in English. And she gave you a wooden knife to spread the lard on the bread :). It's not a "dip" and you're not supposed to dip the bread in it, but spread it on the bread :)

This was cool. If you want a real traditional polish experience - I suggest you come to one christmas times - Christmas Eve or Easter. Get invited and see for yourself how each family does their typical dishes. Those can vary quite a lot, but we surely love making and feeding people food :)

Thank you for visiting Andre! The starter you've got you should spread on a bread to get full experience ;) im glad you've liked it! Soup has smoky flavour mostly because its usually made on smoked ribs or other smoked meat like bacon, also there is garlic in it, so you're really on point with the taste! Silesian cousine is quite unique when it comes to Polish food, happy to see you enjoyed it! Too bad the lady couldn't speak much of english but that's how it is with a bit older people in Poland. But most of young people have no problem with it. Enjoy your stay mate!

If you are already in Silesia and in addition in the vicinity of Katowice, I recommend you to visit Rybnik, Gliwice, Żory are quite nice, one of the cool places in Gliwice is the palm house

If you like the painted flowers in restaurants you should visit Zalipie its a polish painted village in lesser poland (not far away from Cracow)
