Marr is correct, there are substantial energy savings to be made in most households and a simple government information advert would be common sense. I went around every electrical appliance in my house and switched them on and off and checked their usage while on standby and when in use. The biggest standby parasite was my microwave which I used to leave on 24/7. It used 4p an hour on standby! It may not seem much but left on all year now costs a staggering £350, ON STANDBY! I have a fluorescent light that uses 10p an hour that I used to switch on when it got dark and leave on all evening, I changed to led lights and they barely register. So I leave them off when not in use and I'm saving £40 a month as a result. The government should do a nuts and bolts testing of standby costs and put out a public info advert. It would save the population tens of millions a year.

The BoE can't really do much to protect the economy when the government doesn't consult with economic experts about the effects of their planned economic policy.
Economics is as much about demonstrating a logical philosophy and understanding the psychology of actors in the system as it is managing numbers.
Even if all the numbers make sense (which I doubt in this case) it's all a moot point if you fail to present the plan in a comprehensive and reassuring manner.
Suddenly dropping ideologically radical plans on the system with no consultation is the exact opposite.
