  • This video shows how I made a pattern, molded it, cast it, and cut it to fit an antique lock from start to finish. I hope you enjoy it!

    Very cool! I'd love to try this myself - when I was little I always pictured my home with secret doors and passageways, like a Nancy Drew book. If I could make my own key/lock combos, there'd be no stopping me! LOL

    looks good, itsnt the keys made of some sort of manganese bronze? I was curious what alloy since they're designed to be very rigid and strong.

    • @backyardmetalcasting
      @backyardmetalcasting  Před 6 lety

      Chirpy's Tinkerings the more expensive keys are nickel silver...im not sure of the alloy

    • @ChirpysTinkerings
      @ChirpysTinkerings Před 6 lety +1

      after looking around, Ive discovered that alot of the modern day keys are a silicon bronze. The old ones were made of a high zinc brass, but most modern ones are the silicon bronze. Ive never found any that were nickel silver tho.

    • @backyardmetalcasting
      @backyardmetalcasting  Před 5 lety

      Yes! I started this channel with metal casting then I started to do gardening videos...so I made another channel to be more focused on gardening. So I haven't worked on this channel for years...but it is monetized. I have a couple videos that do extremely well. One is on how to drill a well and the other is on how to make a burner for a metal melting furnace. It seems like the how to videos work really well for me. I'm going to make a soap making video for my gardening channel... I thunk it will do well. It only takes a video or two that really take off to grey things rolling. I daze a gardening video today where a guy did a collaboration with a huge gardener and gained 20,000 in one day. Can you imagine that?
