Casting a Part to Repair a Safe
I cast this part to repair a safe. The safe had a plastic part that you have to turn to open the safe....I repaired it and my customer promptly broke it again...because it was made out of PLASTIC! So I made a part out of aluminum and fit it to the safe. I made a mold using my K-bond sand for this one. Let me know what you think and make sure that you are subscribed with the bell clicked so you will get all the notifications when I publish new content!

Harvesting Kale Seeds From my Organic Garden
Hi , I cut the end of the hoses of the tiny precicion torch and converted them to insert in the adjustable regulator with gauges cuz didn’t find this gauge that have female end that fit to the male hose end, but the Oxygen end leaking, while the butane hose’s connected to cooking cylinder successfully. Could you direct me where to buy this kind of regulator with gauge for the oxygen? Thanks 🌷
I would go to a welding, gas supply company
Take a jig saw or cordless sawsall with no blade, run in on the outside of the bucket to create a "vibratory settler" to ensure the sand works its way into all the nook/crannys of the outside of the mold Awesome!!!
That’s a great idea!!
Whaaaat?! Thats bad. And weak.
Yes!!
Its the Lolly Pop king!!
Lol!!
Hey Dave, where did you get the organoclay (bentone-34?) to make your K-bond sand? I was able to get enough (VG-Plus brand) as a free sample to make about 40# of K-bond out of my 500# barrel of AFS GFN 130 green diamond sand. I love it. But they sell it by the pallet, and I only need one bag... 😢
A company called elementis specialties
The great thing about lost foam casting is that you can use regular sand and don't have to use the green sand or oil bonded sand. You just pour the sand around the foam and leave the sprue sticking out a little and pour the melted aluminum and walah
Yes, lost foam is great!
Time to invite it in for dinner!
For sure!
This is the most fantastic way to build a siphon valve ever. Thank you so much!!!
You are welcome. Let me know how it goes!
@@backyardmetalcasting I will. I just subscribed also. I am in Pa . Where are you my friend? Let me tell you what I am using this for. I have to melt some aluminum so that I can cast a bearing holder that bolts to the Swingarm? assembly on a 1985 Yamaha Trimoto. three wheeler. Thanks again.
That sounds like a good project! I grew up neat Pittsburgh but I’m in North Carolina now. If you are on Facebook you should join the hobby metal casting group too. There are lots of knowledgeable people there.
Is the foundry all hot right after use? Or is it built to keep cool on the outside? Basically all I’m asking is Do I have to wait a hour to put it back away into my garage? Or can I put it away and not worry about all the flammable and expensive stuff in my garage??
Yes, it is very hot. I let mine cool outside. I’m not sure if one with ceramic fiber would stay cool on the outside more. You could join the hobby metal casting group on Facebook and ask the question there
Is this silver soldered, or just regular plumber's solder?
Regular plumbers solder. It really shouldn’t get hot especially if you remove the burner from the furnace as soon as you turn it off
The water level is to high, the roots get oxygen for the air, if they are totally submerged they won't grow fast . If you added a bubbler to the tank water that would provide better oxygen also.
Thanks!

Did it work?
Yes, it works great!
Thank you so much for this video!!
You are welcome!
A review of a smelter without getting the unit up to temperature defeats the entire purpose of reviewing it
I don’t know anyone who does smelting. These are foundry furnaces.
old video but can you make a wet dry filter fully submerged? Like drill a home lower like some aio units do so if the water level runs low the pump wont run dry? Have a sea clear acrylic with wet dry built in back is why is im asking. thanks
Sounds like a good idea to me
@@backyardmetalcasting wasn’t that aquarium a pain cause evaporation? Very little evaporation and i can see it not working. Also where was the water level in the filter. Wondering if a bigger pump or a hole lower in the 1st chamber will help keep water level higher like constantly keep the bio balls covered with water
Maybe, we aren’t using it at the moment because my wife didn’t like the way the filter media went in it !
@@backyardmetalcasting one more question did you connect the air tube to an air pump? Wondering if bubbles go into the pump and into the aquarium.
No, we never set it up. I don’t remember where the air was installed
Thank you for doing what the manufacturer would not…give instructions. However, your camera angle is entirely;ly too close. Grace at vid!
Looks like the angle of the cuts into the plastic should have been the other direction.
It doesn't really matter because you are moving it back and forth
@@backyardmetalcasting only reason I say that is because one way tends to tighten while the other tends to loosen when cutting.
But a reverse drill bit cuts on a counter clockwise direction...LOL
Greetings, thank you for providing what the manufacturers still won’t…instructions on how their product works. It would’ve been much nicer if you had moved the camera back away from the tank little more; the close-ups make it a little difficult to see the whole picture but outstanding job!
sugar syrup instead of glycerin, much less costly and works great
You are meaning sugar syrup as a binder for sand?

I've been trying to get my hands on some organoclay to make K-Bond for over a year and so far the best I've been able to accomplish is getting a 2# sample sent. What's your secret?

Not clearly mentioned you.
???
This is so cool because you can burn with gas or oil
Beautiful!!
I have one like this but my flame won’t Turin like a torch it stays big orange flames ?
Sounds like it's not getting enough air...which burner? If it's the one with the choke plate, make sure you open it after the furnace warms up.
@@backyardmetalcasting it was air added a forced air set up works better than exspected
Yea, it doesn't take much air to burn better!
What determines if a furnace needs a FAN to push AIR through the furnance? The size of the furnace, or the refractory inside of furnance?
No, it would depend on your burner design. A naturally aspirated burner uses the force of the gas (usually) to move the air in too and mix it for a good burn. There does need to be a good sized exit hole in the furnace so it doesn't have back pressure too. That being said, a small air supply can help a poorly designed burner burn better. 🔥
If your burner has a choke, you can really see the flame change from a soft yellow to a roaring blue or colorless flame when the choke us opened
@@backyardmetalcasting Thanx!
@@backyardmetalcasting Thanx!
Great video, what CFM air compressor do you use?
I'll have to check
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I found it very informative
Thank you!
Are you using the Kwiky burner in your furnace to melt the aluminum?
I've been using my propane recently just because it's quicker to set up...I've been so busy though I haven't been melting much 😢
This is an Awesome series! Have you done one on how you built your foundry, and how, whatever experiments you went through, lasted?
No, I haven't...I used commercial refractory on my two main furnaces. I did make a larger furnace using more of a gingery mix that I built for a one time use...but it became my favorite furnace until I moved from there...the sides did get soft on it.
Looks good I'm going to try some foam casting this week
I unfortunately can not recommend this company based on the one I bought. The connection between the hose and the burner leaked enough that it ignited. Not a deal breaker as I’m accustomed to working with gas flames and potential problems. But when I tried to snug the connection it snapped off without any undue force. It has no way to grab the burner side and support it while tightening. Worse was when I tried going through customer service they stalled until I exceeded the return period and I never heard from them again.
Are you on their Facebook group? I would try contacting them there if you haven't
Chinese crap. You are right

Thanks. Yes, getting the spring & ball back in place is so confusing when the directions make it extremely difficult to follow. Your video helped immensely.
Glad to help!
Nice project. In 2021, take the prices on the parts shown, and multiply X4
Yeah, that is a rather old video of course the prices really jumped in the last year.
The water coming out of your casing while digging is normal. That carries your cuttings! Tells u what your digging through! I cut a notch in my casing to direct the water to my run off ditch. The material in the ditch tells me the status of the dig! Dig a ditch in the downward direction away from hole and keep from getting to muddy!
Thanks!!
Can I use butane gas in one of these rather than propane, or does it burn too hot?
Butane is hotter than propane? I would think it would be fine but I've never tried butane so use at your own risk. The burner doesn't get hot so the question would be if your furnace could handle it. I take the burner out of the furnace as soon as I turn it off to prevent the hot furnace from transferring heat to the burner. Where do you get butane?
Hi, about 12Kg Model what is the wall thickness, what is the chamber inner size! Thanks
I'll take a look
Thanks alot :)
