Please consider putting the brand of the kit you used on your title so it appears on search. No one has this tutorial and I just bought the kit at hobby lobby for $8! But the instructions ugh, and my needle doesn’t make sense or work. So I’m just winging it throw. Cut it with scissors. I have the sans instructions and leather laces too.
The knots go on the outside to be more comfortable. With the knot on the inside it's like having a rock in your shoe. Congrats on trying something new, it's how you learn, by trying and making mistakes. congrats your human and brave to try something knew .
David is certainly a nice guy. If you have problem doing something from a kit, find another kit. I am looking for a video to make mocassins from scratch. Could not find a decent one so far.

Im planning a three week hike through a heavily wooded area east of the Mississippi and will be dressed as a early to ‘Mid 18th Century Woodsman’. Survival gear of that era including black powder rifle and clothing of that era including The ‘waterproofed’ moccasin boots would be essential.
this is a kit made by silver creek leather or real leather; sold on amazon and seemingly in Michael's Craft stores.

I think you put the knots on the outside so they dont cut into your feet
