    Great video you guys. I recently purchased a (new to me) 2008 Born Free Built for Two, just under 23 feet long. I absolutely love it. The smaller size suits me great and it's very easy to drive and park. Born Free's customer service is AWESOME. I live all the way up north in Alaska and have called the service department a couple of times to ask questions about how things work (I'm new to RVing and so have been on a learning curve). They (especially Kim) have been nothing but outstanding with me - extremely nice and taken the time to explain things carefully to me over the phone. So, anyway as you can tell I'm a real Born Free fan! They are well built, quality units for sure.

    I too don't want slides. Just sold my 42 foot Foretravel and ordered a royal Splendor on a dodge 5500 with four wheel drive dual alternators solar and dual fuel tanks. Love the fact that they make it without slides.

    Nice to hear from someone else who likes "no slides", and that opens up the possibility of some real deals on older cream-puff RVs, like our Fleetwood Southwind we bought for about what the sales tax would have been on a new one with all the features including slides. That knotty pine cabinetry on the used Born Free was awesome!

  • @LowsJuan
    @LowsJuan Před 8 lety +1

    Can you imagine a F550 4x4 chassis under 30 ft with a raised platform bed at the back so that you could have a garage under the bed, big enough for a motorcycle or many bikes, tons of recreation equipment. Add quiet hydronic diesel heating system like alde which eliminate the need for a hot water tank and those battery killing fans for the heating. Then add an 30K under floor ac systems leaving much more roof space for solar. Plus with more solar, add a second alternator, big inverter and lithium batteries you could get rid of propane all together. Nice size still tow if you want and when you have problems with your chassis you choose one of over 3200 ford dealerships in the us to get serviced at. That german diesel has a tenth of the dealerships to fix it in the usa but they do have 450 of those truck service ctrs also. That probably won't help when the service mgr tells you "yes we can get that part.....out of germany in about uhm yup they say 2 weeks) which could be 3 to 4 weeks. I am sure there is lots to do in Gaffney, SC to keep you occupied for a month.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  Před 8 lety +1

      Well Earthroamer is working on what you describe but based on their other rigs, it will probably run about $700k. Keep in mind, most Ford dealerships will not touch a RV, even if it is built on their chassis. There might be some exceptions but our current RV is built on the F53 chassis and Ford won't touch it.

    • @LowsJuan
      @LowsJuan Před 8 lety

      Earthroamer is to offroad centric for me. Wow! I did not know that was the case with Class A's but then again it would probably be a lack of access that's the issue. There are lots of products out there that are close to what I want. More function over form unfortunately usually that means $$$$. Things are changing so, about the time I am starting to have my parts replaced, I will probably see what I want in an RV. An RV is a dream to fixed compared to the human body. Parts often don't fit properly even if you can find them at all, no warranty after it's start moving air through it's intake, really expensive mechanics, but the support staff are much nicer (nurses).
      Bornfree has the right idea, just need to get it's marketing out of the last century.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  Před 8 lety +1

      Just remember that life is a sexually transmitted disease with 100% mortality rate so enjoy it while you have it! I really want any new rig we get to be all diesel...even the stove.

    • @LowsJuan
      @LowsJuan Před 8 lety

      Not so sure about the stove as I have heard many times they just don't burn hot enough and definitely not hot enough to get rid of VD. They use them a lot in the marine industry. Propane has still got some pretty good uses and it's used daily by people who would buy swampland in FL. and they still don't blow themselves up. If you look at the orifices (no not that one) on a natural gas bbq and then look at the ones on a propane bbq you will see that the former has HUGE ones because there is not as much energy in CH3 compared to propane. Propane is a byproduct of Gasoline production so in a sense it's more green than people realize. Diesel oddly enough takes less processing than gasoline yet often is more expensive. We have had shortage here over the years of diesel but that should change as they are building a diesel speicific refinery here. In some ways the USA is more dependent on diesel than most people think. Up north of the 49th pretty much all frieght moves east-west. That makes the cheapest way of transportting goods (trains) much more usable. The US moves frieight in every direction so trucks are king.
