  • While there are many manufacturers of RVs, the majority of them are very poorly made and will soon fall-apart if you try to live in one full-time. That makes finding a top-quality RV very important to the Full-Timer!

    I am a single woman and I have the same size Born Free and love it, too! Mine is a 2001 with about 100,000 miles on it. I wanted the bed in the cabover for storage and guest sleeping. It is 9 feet wide, 7 feet deep, super roomy. When I am in it full time the storage is amazing. I do not watch TV but, there is a small one at the front door and it has a very nice satellite system. Mine also has a convection oven/microwave. What Sam didn't show was the big closet next to the fridge and the big fridge itself with a separate freezer. I really love that! I had a 24 ft model for 3 years but, it did not have a fixed bed and to live in one you really need that BUT he is right, I LOVED the smaller size as I do not tow a car. It was a smaller chassis and much more maneuverable. I really like the desk but, where would two people eat? I like to have company on occasion and the original setup is sweet. But,what he did do looks really nice. So this is my second one and I just buy that brand because it is sooo well made and being alone in it I do not want problems. I just stick to buying the best I can afford. I watch sweet Carolyn and cringe with all the problems she has had. With what she has spent now I think she could have had a Born Free. I like the tank monitor and the solar and the LED lighting. I would love to hear about what those upgrades cost. Having a Born Free is the Best! Maybe I'll see you at RTR! PS. I have NEVER seen a Born Free that was abused. They all look pristine.So much Pride of ownership. Mine is 16 years old and looks new.

    Wow usually i skip the comments...but read down some and in case u missed it...... this is Bobs channel and he can post things how he chooses! Ive watched his videos for awhile now and he is taking his time to interview people to provide very much needed information! There are people who actually want to know if they can live this type of life on their budget and how to go about it! I and others are Thankful to him and those he interviews for taking the time to offer how they have done things and what they have chosen to live in!

    I purchased my 2008 23 foot "Built for Two" Born Free last year and I love it! The quality of the build is superb. I was very sad to learn that Born Free has closed up its shop due to financial reasons. Last summer I called their service department a couple of times to get advice and their helpfulness/customer service was outstanding even though I was not the original purchaser of the RV. I learned that all Born Free RV's have their own specific number which they had on file, and thus they could answer all of my questions because they knew exactly which unit RV I had. You so rarely find quality and customer service like that anymore and I'm so bummed they had to close their business.

    There is a new 24 foot Born Free on RVT for $145,000. There are a lot of cheaply made Class C's, 30 years old, on the road and useable. Somebody needs to break down the weaknesses of RV's. Aren't the newer roofs a better design? Aren't the panels, like Azdel, advantageous? What does 'fall apart' mean? I see problems on my $12300 travel trailer, but it's not 'falling apart'. I've spent months in it. I think there are dampness issues, humidity issues, but everyone who builds any van confronts that.
    You need to spend $150k to make a 200 square foot box that is roadworthy? Surely there are strategies for keeping a basic RV sound and livable for 20 years. I've looked at a lot of park model units in St George, Utah. The aluminum siding is thin and it looks almost crumbly or brittle. These go back to '95. I worry how something like that gets fixed, but still, it's 22 years old. It's not a lot of money, per year.
    They could do a lot better job with the quality control, on the standard units out of Indiana.

    Great interview. if I ever got a class C RV I would also choose between a Lazy Days, Born Free or a Chinook as well. However, I prefer the Chevy chassis over Ford and it's very hard to find either of these three manufacturers making a RV on a chevy chassis. I know the chinook can be found on a chevy chasis but it's not easy to find a Lazy Days or Born Free RV on a chevy chassis.

    Howdy from Bill in Helena, Mt. I just purchased a Born Free 26RSB Casual Elegance for travels around America. I like your modifications and will consider them when I pick up the coach in a few days. I did pick up a Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier and will add 200 watts of solar, led lighting, and a better TV antenna. I will be towing my motorcycle on a small trailer. I also do amateur radio and will figure out HF/VHF/UHF antenna mounting. I am looking forward to my first adventure something this fall to the east coast. I will be setting up a blog which will appropriately titled "Bill's Born Free & BMW Blog". I ordered a personal Spare Time cover with the name of my Born Free " Elsa and the Born Free Logo". Thanks for a great video on you Born Free.. Bill

    We bought a born free in oct of 2016. It was new and we love it. However...Born free went out of business last month and left of hanging. No more great warranties or anything else! We are SO upset! No warning and it seems we have now lost about 60K due to their closing the doors. It just isn't right ! When you drop 167k on something you expect it to be something they will stand behind!

      SHADOW LIVING that is outrageous amount to pay for a motorbome most people on this channel cannot afford to buy a motorhome new most dont have homes to sell etc even though they do work or own a small business. This channel needs to focus on the majority of viewers here who cant sell lots of stuff, who dont have many investments, and focus more on used motorhomes for $10,000 or less.

      well this is a year later and I have found that most of the born free used are listed about 15,000 higher then NADA value (NADA is what insurance co. use for insuring the RV). These are quality RVs and too bad the manufacturer had to close the doors.

    This is a beautiful RV with gorgeous cabinetry! Loved it. That pink couch is hideous though and need a face lift. I don't know why all RV couches are so ugly and look like overstuffed cushions. A sleek, harder foam, clean lines upholstery job with bright colors would look so nice, and be a much better sleeping surface as well. Thanks for this van tour!

    Still good value here, even with born free out of business which is what happened with chinook. I think that he made a good choice but because he tows a car, he might as well have a 37' diesel pusher. One of the advantages of Class C's is their ability to move through traffic easily, which he loses with the extra length of the tow car. Towing a car (toad) only makes sense if your wintering down south which is not his lifestyle. Adding a toad and driving the way he does reduces the fuel mileage by about 40% and shortens the lifespan of the chassis probably about as much. Unfortunately, because born frees are so heavy a motorcycle could not be carried on the back like most shorter e450's. This model does not have great carrying capacity because of it length and strong structure.

    I am Surprised that no One has mentioned Phoenix Cruiser. They are High end Class C Motorhomes that are Custom Built and Factory Direct. They build only 2 per week ( Not Mass Produced ) All Solid wood Cabinets, 1800 Watt Inverters HWH Levelers and Slides using the Ford E-350 and 450 Chassis. They have many Floorplans from 21 feet to 31 feet. We own a 3100 ( 31 foot ) PC and love the construction. Top level for sure. CZcams Phoenix Cruiser and see all of the different videos available. Great Customer Service and Yes they are still in Business !! PS Full Fiberglass Roof Standard

    • @klaviary
      @klaviary Před 4 měsíci

      the build quality is very similar but not the same. Born Free had no seams in it. Totally wrapped fiberglass. The Phoenix, although inside is gorgeous, has been still known to leak in the seams. This is why the Phoenix was priced below that of the Born Free. You cant be profitable building like this anymore.

    Thanks, Bob, for showing all these different rigs. First time I've heard of the roll bars and the metal roof, if I heard right. These things go into the hopper for later decision making. I think the Class B is metal roof too, isn't it? Like a car or van? The floor is nice. I do like having the shower. You didn't mention the dumping needs but I assume you have tanks for gray water and black water, which require dumping. Not good or bad, just part of the search. Question though...how many normal showers/dishwashing, fills up the gray water tank. I know, depends on how long the showers are, but average, and how many days of 1/2 person usage for the black water tanks before dumping. I haven't heard this addressed yet.

      small footprint,
      The roof is fiberglass, not metal.
      My rig has 35 gal fresh tank, 35 gal gray tank and 21 gal black tank. I take "navy" showers every other day. Like many van dwellers, I use cleaning vinegar in a spray bottle (and lots of paper towels) for most dishwashing. I usually go 7 to 10 days without needing to dump wastes and fill the fresh tank. Also, I use filtered water in gallon jugs for drinking and cooking.

Same type work history, here, and couldn't help picking up on the persistence of the verbal bullying, the derision & derogatory name calling, harping on the age of the anxiety-producing person, the escalation of the anxiety and the expansion of its scope. The persistent repetition is eerie, a sort of "ramping up" that's all too familiar. I wonder if he's aware that Elder Abuse (and that IS what's going on, above) is punishable by imprisonment, under the law in many States. (?)

      I apologize to anyone who felt I was bullying with my comment- that was not my intent. To Bob: I really enjoy and have learned a lot from your videos- thank you-

      No worries Joy. You just asked a question but there's an individual posting the same derogatory response through the feed that has caught our attention and concern.

    I wish you posted interviews before doing the tour. It would be nice to get to know the person before touring his or her home. I'd also suggest Bob that you use a wider angle lens when shooting interiors. Closeups of cabinets doesn't really give a good impression of what the space is like, nor does scanning from top to bottom. A wider shot would tell us much more.

      He posted that interview AFTER posting the tour. That was what I objected to. I'd prefer to see the interview THEN the tour of the person's vehicle. Honestly, I have no idea why Bob posts these videos that way. When you watch the interview he ends by saying "now can we tour your rig" or something similar. He shoots all of this at one time, then splits the video and shares the last half first, then the first half last. I want to hear the person's story BEFORE I see their RV.

      It was truly a family owned biz and after the Dad passed it had new owners for about 2 years, I think? They just closed down in May and I am hoping that someone will pick it up and reopen. The Brand is very valuable. NO ONE has a better reputation than Born Free. I go to RV shows and see the crap that is out there with other brands but, people do not want to pay for the BF quality. BF's cost twice as much as others. Buy a used one, you will not regret it.

    How does one make those corner beds? How does one get in and out of bed? We had one once and just could not make it work for us.

    • @hithernyon8495
      @hithernyon8495 Před 7 lety +1

      Rhonda, They always do. I just don't know how they do it. One couple with a corner called making the bed a bad name. This one looked like it had some sort of fitted bedspread. I have heard of some who gave up and just use a sleeping bag. It certainly is not disability friendly! Maybe someone who knows how to deal with it will post.

      Hither'n'Yon i don't have an RV yet but want a small one so it will likely have this corner bed. I may get a bed bag, can't think of the name off hand. It's not really a sleeping bag.

    • @hithernyon8495
      @hithernyon8495 Před 7 lety +1

      i guess I should be more specific. Not just smoothing out the bedspread....how in the world do you change the sheets? I guess they design these RV's with the occasional user i mind. They might have to only change the sheets once a year.

    • @janetfolkerts5827
      @janetfolkerts5827 Před 7 lety +2

      Every time I see a bed in a corner like this crammed in corner to corner I wonder..HOW do they make it ? You would have to sit in the middle, pull up the mattress couple the sheet over the corner, let go and try to get the other corner working your way off the outer access corner..sounds like a lotta of work. I would rather have a bunk built in or a fold down murphy bed giving me full access to the mattress.
