  • Impoverished families in Tanzania are being tricked into giving up their disabled children by human traffickers. Promised a better life, the children are instead smuggled into Kenya and forced to beg, often for years.
    Africa Eye goes undercover to expose the traffickers trading in human misery and helps one young victim escape his captors.

      This was excellent investigative journalism. I have a form of paralysis, waist down, but I could tell the boy needed a Dr and in pain. Most people don't realize there's pain with some forms of paralysis. This just killed me. Broke my heart. Im half way through,, I'm hoping the boy gets home.I think trafficking awareness in those poorest areas would help. Makes me so mad as a disabled person and mom. I cried at the end. You did such a great job.

    The look on Fara’s face when his mother said she didn’t have a place for him completely broke my heart. She didn’t seem to care any more about him than the traffickers. I would like to see her and the traffickers punished. These children didn’t ask to be born and do not deserve to be repeatedly failed by everyone around them.

But along with our donations WE would also like to send birth control pills to this "disabled boy's " mother; if she let traffickers take her son, then she should really be told to stop having more children too!? @@frankkyando5539 our Swahili and the one from TZ differs. If you read the captions, she meant it will be a challenge having him as she is living in a remote area far from facilities that could assist him. She promises to organise herself so he can eventually reunite with her and the rest of her family. The nexus between poverty and disability is clear in this story. A poor family with a child with disability will more likely than not fall further into poverty. He is being helped and will probably have more access to services that will improve his ability to become more self-reliant than if he went back to his mother.

    I honestly cannot believe the lengths Njeri Mwangi went to tracing back Fara's family, and especially the sadness in her face when the trafficker's name is recognized. You can only imagine what she feels and goes through everyday through getting this story - from seeing the many disabled people at the bus stage, to having to only settle on one to focus on, to being bold to involve the police (honestly that could go either way), to seeing the big picture in the stroy... big, big, ups Njeri!!!!! It was absolutely gut-wrenching to see how the disabled are taken and exploited for the gain of others. I would like to think there's a special place in hell for them. Persons with disabilities are human beings as well. They aren't perfect the way the world isn't perfect, but they would like to go about their lives as normal as possible too. I speak from experience. Is that how we're seen? As dollar signs? As subhuman, to be beaten, starved and maltreated? We're human beings! Though the subjects of this investigation were arrested, more still needs to be done. Let's not forget, one day that could be us with the disability.

      Tanzania government is aware. This has been going on for years but they ignore. Kenyans even ran a hashtag about it to Magufuli. Tanzania anti vaccine stand is contributing to these disabilities. It us easy for Tanzanians to enter Kenya than it is for Kenyans to enter TZ. They have a very hostile government that cares less. Kenya needs to wind them all up and send them back to TZ.

    Thank you for the good work Njeri.
    It seems to me that both Zengo and Kamwe are Tanzanians, based on their names and dialect of Kiswahili. The police officer also pointed on Kamwe overstaying when he was checking his papers. They are both disabled too. Could it be a cycle of "slaves becoming masters"? What actions are the two governments taking to curb this inhumane act? What directive is given to the Kenyan citizens in order to help these kids get to safe spaces where they can grow and flourish? Unless the parents want them back, getting them back home may not be the best solution.

    • @npcnoticer
      @npcnoticer Před rokem

      Yeah that was my first thought. I saw immediately zengo was disabled, and noticed as kamwe was limping around the apartment to get papers he was and he mentioned before the other town would think he was just a beggar as well, realized he was disabled as well. So this all just becomes an indictment of the systems and will to care for the disabled and poverty as well.

    This mother is cold towards her disabled son. For years he has longed to see her and she didn’t even seem happy to see him after so long. I would have to suffer in poverty with my child next to me because at least I would sure that he is loved above anything else. Such a cold and heartless response

  • @florencenyambura1746

    One time in town I had to clean, change and feed one of the disabled kids that beg because I saw him crying in pain. He'd soiled himself. The minder tried to stop me but the people who noticed the boy's pain barred this helper from stopping me. The boy had wounds from burning of the feaces. They are treated like they are less human. All for money! How sick can humans be! I don't think this can stop soon but I surely hope that a stop is put to this madness!
