    This is from Golf Smarter episode 543 published on June 7, 2016.
    On any given round, there’s only one piece of golf equipment that is used on every shot…the ball. What most amateur players don’t realize is that 70% of all golfers are using the wrong ball, according to this week’s guest Dominic Selfa of Bridgestone Golf who sits down with host Fred Greene. Getting fitted for a golf ball is as important as getting fitted for clubs. So may players play a Titleist ProV1 because that’s what’s on the tour or is the most expensive. But that doesn’t mean it will help your game. The reality is that if you don’t have a swing speed over 100mph or can compress the ball to get a good amount of backspin, that is the wrong ball for you. Learn more about the new line of Bridgestone balls and how they are leading the way for every golfer to get properly fitted for the correct ball.

    In the Premium Episode at GolfSmarter.libsyn.com, we also have an interesting conversation with Terry McEwen of SoulKix, an innovative shoe team that encourages the quirky/weird/artistic/different/inspired/ and “off-beaten” soul to create the own path of shoes. It’s actually a really fascinating story of a father helping his son find a mission and path in life after the young man, at 19, was homeless living in a makeshift tent on top of a skyscraper in San Francisco. With Father’s Day coming, it’s a beautiful story of love and success.

    I'm a weekend golfer and I used to consistently score right around 100. Ever since I switched to the Wilson Staff FG Tour balls, I've been hitting in the low-mid 90s every round. It's the softest tour tour ball available. Great ball for me.

      Most golfers play the same ball the Tour pros use, because they think because the pros use it, it'll help their game.
      Nothing could be further from the truth.
      Forget about spin rate, launch angle and all that other crap. It's meaningless to the average dewsweeper. Play a softer ball, and strive for a consistent, repeatable swing path. That'll do more for the recreational player than a Pro V1 or V1x will ever do, plus it'll save you $$ too.

    Was hitting Bridgestone, prov1, maxfli tour x. Then I hit a provisional ball that I had found in the woods after my prov1 drew into the woods. I hit it dead straight and long. Decided to keep playing it and haven’t changed. I guess now that I’m older my swing speed has slowed and I just didn’t realize that I needed a lower compression ball but it’s brought my game back to great again.

    The short game is the key to scoring for us high handicappers, so I play the lowest cost ball that feels good off the face for that part of my game. Not too gummy feeling and not excessively "clicky" either. I can't see I'm consistent enough to notice distance differences between brands with the long clubs, but I do stock my bag with only one kind of ball. If there are differences in yardage or roll, you don't want to see that from shot to shot.

    Line your body up with your shot, hit the ball in the centre of the club and the ball will go where you want it to. Simple. I have been playing for two years now and am 67, read and listened to as much as I can to improve and understand the way to play. Side spin, top spin back spin urrgh. Unless your a absolute pro it's bull. Hit the ball to your strengths and use the club you are using correctly. Consistency is the name of the game. Just my veiw.

    More spin does not equate more left right dispersion... Multiple tests have been done! That's simply wring! More spin actually has the different effect because more back spin makes the ball more stable on its spin axis, thus less likely to tilt! But in all fairness, side-spin (backspin tilted) is created when the face is open or closed to the path... spin has very little to do with that!
    For a golf ball manufacturer he should really know this! Its like he's perpetuating old knowledge!!! This is just one test but if what he said was correct, this test would look very different: czcams.com/video/6CchRvPRfiQ/video.html Mark Crossfield has done this test too and his data also disproves what he's saying in this interview!

  • @dennisdobin1918
    @dennisdobin1918 Před 6 lety +3

    This guy has some problem with physics, your going to create more back spin and the will extenuate your miss? The reason you have more accuracy with the short irons is back spin.They evaluate your side spin? If the ball had side spin you would be hit at right angles, what happens is that the balls axis alters, but the ball still has backspin on a different axis,a ball cannot spin in two directions at the same time.

    • @1badbadger428
      @1badbadger428 Před 6 lety +1

      He knows this, but talking about "axis tilt" to the average consumer gets too technical and can be confusing. When discussing how much the ball curves it is commonly referred to as "sidespin". And yes, a higher spinning ball will exaggerate miss-hits. It will cause the ball to curve more and/or lose more distance than a lower spinning ball.

    And it’s Paula Creamer not Paula Kramer. I’ve had enough, just go buy the best ball you can afford. I like the ProV1 X-outs myself. The ball is going to have a blemish on it first time I hit it anyway. Might as well save a few bucks.

      @@jonburrows8602 nothing wrong with the prov1 for the average golfer other than the price of new balls which is a problen for any premium ball but only an idiot would turn down a good discount on a prov1
      It's better for the average golfer than any ball that spins more! The whole "problem" with the prov1 is that it is a low-spin ball so it goes where you hit it instead of spinning back where you expect it to go from previous experience hitting spinny balls. Which is what most othet balls are. V1s are great because they force you to spin the ball on purpose if you want to play cuts. And when you do get them to spin they spin mildly. You have to unlearn years of bad form to play them well. And they penetrate the wind well where most other balls do not given the slightest spin the wind just carries them away.

    So, so, contrived. U need ID, that these guys r wearing for the interview.... Titleist jokes, Titleist Pro V1 being a provisional Ball hahaha. Using 800 Bridgestone Engineers for the golf ball really you have 800 Engineers working on this... it all the tracks from their message. Very very poor marketing. You can see right through this. It's up there with those broadcasts that take breaks for commercials when I'm real life they're one long commercial.

    Terrible interview, asking all the wrong questions! Independent labs tell us not to judge the compression of the golf and instead base it on factors such as feel, spin, and flight profile. In your Not So Smart Golf interview, you did not push back on this fact at all.....why not? Personally, I am a 5 handicap who drives the ball 250+ and I play either the Taylormade TP5x or the Bridgestone RX (especially in the winter). I play them because they are lower spin with a higher flight profile which is what like. Need to do better!

    I always have a good laugh when someone says, they play "what they find". does not seem to go with "lovetogolf" (also repeated below). That's too bad...THAT U HAVE TO DO THAT. Only time I ever went looking for GOLF balls was when I was very young and in my early-mid TEENS, with not much money and earning power. With that attitude, you never know what a really NICE new ball feels like, especially with the high tech balls we have today. Just bought 4 doz Titleist AVX w/ name imprinted on all 48 - A SPECIAL OFFER BY TITLEIST (+ other companies followed also)..U buy 3 doz reg price THEY GIVE U - 1 doz free ) worked out to be pretty cheap! I won't ever actually go looking for balls...EVER again! and if I pick up if scuffed one when playing and it is not too bad it go into my shag bag, otherwise I chuck it into the brush. Even my shag balls look really good..all very playable. Just what u want to spend u r hard earned cash on. Do U have a nice car, home, furniture, (boy toys), boat, motorcycle etc etc etc..? Then U look into your golf bag and see a bunch of dirty-scuffed up balls - makes no sense to me, MATE. It's where u set your priorities. Play what U want...just enjoy this wonderful and sometimes frustrating "game of a lifetime"! I am USA + New Zealand ....and NZ is GOLF country - THE COUNTRY WITH THE MOST GOLF COURSES PER CAPITA IN THE WORLD and still dirt cheap to play on spectacular championship courses! that's a fact! PS. don't go looking for my balls, because I haven't lost one in prob 15-20 round!👍😊✔
