    To anyone wondering: The AVX is designed to be low spin on driver/woods. You can still get short game spin with it because it has a urethane cover.

      I'm a +25 or so. His 7 is right around my 9 iron. His drive is right around my 5 iron. Unless he's got absolute control over where the ball lands, there is no way that he can get to a 25% par, 75% bogie game. Might have been an off day, otherwise, no way he's under 90.

      @nastynate9529 Před 5 lety +2

      @@johnr.1592 that 118 yard 7 iron made me giggle a little bit. 118 is a solid sand wedge in most cases. That means he is approaching greens with a hybrid or something... there is zero chance he is a 12 unless he plays front tees and a very easy and very short golf course. Not buying it lol.

  • @tonyvasquez-progolfcoach1484

    The correct way to choose a golf ball to play is to test them on the green - putting - and around the green - chipping and pitching. Don't worry about 2 yards off the driver, or off irons. Play the ball that you can score low with. The one that performs the best for you on and around the greens.

    The test was very enlightening. My only complaint, as others have commented, is the golfers selected. Gap in driving distance between the 12 handicap and scratch golfer is almost 120 yards. 160 yards vs 280 yards. The average golfer is at 219 yards. No one in the test came close to representing an average golfer. I'm guessing you selected 2 of your students and 2 old guys hanging around the putting green with nothing better to do.
    Second from the tests, Titleist appears to be a middle of the pack . Nothing special.
    Third, there are tons of guys running around claiming +3-4 Handicaps. Average tour pro is +5-6 and they are winning U.S Opens and Masters championships. Many of the self proclaimed +3-4's couldn't win their city championship.

    Great test, glad TGW used different handicaps instead of scratch level. Ken is no 12 handicap as many of you can clearly tell, he's the guy that will claim he shot par or bogey on a hole when you know for a fact he took more. Wedge play is something you can tell that is different in someone approaching single digit handicap and he's probably really good at the foot wedge. I play with seniors and one in particular is in his mid 80s and often shoots in the low to mid 80s from the middle tees and he's a 14.

    Blue Tees for Ken if he is 70 yrs of age or older. He probably has a wizard short game and can putt. Who cares if he can only hit the drive 160yds, this is the beauty of the the game of golf, different people of different age with different swings and different skills, can compete against each other on a level playing field, thanks to the handicap system. What a great game and a game for life. ⛳️

    Apart from the scratch golfer (maybe), there is absolutely no justification for paying 40 bucks for 12 balls. There are plenty of balls out there at half the price or less that will perform very well and feel perfectly adequate for players who prefer hard or soft balls. Of course, if money is no object, then let them buy what they want. But golf would greatly benefit in general if we promoted the idea that it is a sport for everybody, and not just for people who have money to burn.

  • @geoffcohen613
    @geoffcohen613 Před 4 lety +2

    A totally inconclusive test. the results are all over the place and just show there really is not a lot of difference between any of the balls, some spin better for different players but dont go as far, others are better feel .

    results would be similar.

      Corek BleedingHollow not really true, a softer ball off the face of the putter affects distance and feel causing a inconsistent stroke and roll depending on the ball. I'm with you. If Marvin or Ken walked in my shop today, I'd get the Wilson Staff DUO in their hands. Maybe the DUO Spin for Ken. But, they are very affordable and a great ball for the average golfer (which Marvin certainly is and Ken seems to be, despite what he says his handicap is.)
      Furthermore, I play the Wilson FG Tour (I'm between a 3.5 - 5 handicap, depending on how often I'm getting to get out of the office/shop) and that ball is great. Love the Urethane cover. Jumps off the driver and iron faces, but still offers good control around greens.

    No way theres a 30 yard gap between the avx and chrome soft with those numbers. Hes obviously not a plus 4 with such inconsistency. His ball speed has to be all over the place which, assuming his swing speed is relatively consistent, means hes not hitting the ball in the middle of the face very often.

  • @St0rmB
    @St0rmB Před 5 lety

    Boy, Marvin was getting some REALLY high spin rates on that AVX, which makes no sense. I've tested that ball and watched testing of it and that thing does not ever get that kind of spin. Usually, the Pro V1X destroys it in spin. But Marvin was getting more spin with the Pro V1X? Hmm..

    Doesn't mean a damn thing, it shows that every shot can be different depending on how it contacts the face of the club which was omitted in this study. Ball speed is directly related to club head speed. You're not going to hit a distance of 200 yards with a club head speed 30 mph, just not going to happen. In order to hit 300 yards the club head speed needs to be over 100 mph.

    Save some money, go with the 333 or q star from srixon, then when you loose or scuff one you don't have to be upset at loosing four dollars on your shot. Instead you can always remember the random CZcams guy who saved you two dollars on the srixon ball you just lost.

    The 25 handicapper swing was so bad, and so slow there is no way he could tell the difference or form any worthwhile opinion. His preference for AVX on that little downhill shot proves it. Around the green the AVX is just about the least dependable ball Titleist makes.

      I completely agree. I have improved my ball striking to the extent that I can tell a difference between golf balls. All of the tested balls are marketed for skilled players, anyone is free to buy them. I happen to play Titleist because they are made in USA. Buy golf balls you like and can afford to lose.

      Almost all urethane balls are $4 each. It’s what they cost. When you start to develop a real short game, you’ll see why urethane is important.
