- Great day switch spots along American River for shad! They r all around the river now, ppl r getting them from Paradise to Harrington to Sunrise. Grab your rod and go for it!
Rod: Ray Fishing Phantom 8'8
Reel: Daiwa revros 2500
Main line: 8 lb braided
Leader: 6 lb mono
float: 2 1/2 inch oval weighted float
water bobber: 2 inch oval clear
jighead: lead color, 1/16 oz

Wow you put in a lot of work for your limit it was very entertaining to watch. In Washington and Oregon at Bonneville Dam we have no limit and stop fishing because we caught a cooler if not a few coolers already.

Just found your channel and love how you killed it. I can tell you have skills.. I also have the same set up but I ass one thing. I call it a diamond.. lol goto micheals and buy glass diamond cut beads.. for making bracelets. The water is so clear it sparkles so many colors in the water. My father taught me this along time ago and can’t say if it works or not as I use it everytime. It I can say limits are easy or just good timing. Lol keep up the good work I’ll be watching more of your videos! Be safe

good work, now if everyone took there limit of shad every few day, we would be rid of these pesky fish... so no one would catch them.. they would not be able to spawn for the next generation of fish..yup very proud of you catching you limit of shad.....i fly fish this river for 30 years, and every year there are less and less shad to catch... catch and release is more fun,,, catch and keep a few fish but never the limit

I am using that same pink jig head bait with a 4' lead on my crapie 4'5" ugly stick with a floating weighted bobber, AND my stick and my 5'6" ultra light with a 1oz weight on a 4' lead on a swivel, have not even had a bite yet! I've been our 4 times for shad this season and got nothing! Did I miss the run? So discouraging!

The water bubble: I usually give it 4/5 of water. just try to make as heavy as u can as long as it is floating even with some drags. (heavier it is , easier to cast far)
Do you have to use barbless hook? I saw another video from another guy said you have to use barbless hook.
i was catching in lower ar, barb hook is allowed. if u r fishing upper stream of hagan community park, barbless hook is required.

Is your Daiwa revros 2500 reel the Shad in smoothly? I am looking for a budget ($100 or less) spinning reel for Shad. I have Penn Battle 2 2500. It does reel in the Shad smoothly
I am surprised that the 40+ bucks revros can work so good, too! it needs some maintenance, for sure. I give it some WD40 spray every time after fishing. But as long as smoothness, it is uncomplainable.
I recently started following Shad fishing on the Sacramento River, and would love to experience this type of fishing. I’m 68 yrs. Of age and wondered if there’s a location along the river that’s not too far to walk to, from the parking area. I can walk, but not for a long distance due to knee issues. Any info is very much appreciated. Thank you. Ed

thanks! verona will continue to be good for a while I think, because now that the water level for american river is going down, the upcoming fish will more likely to go up to verona instead of heading into american river. The place in my vid is at lower ar, around paradise beach to harrington. but right now the fish actually went up, my friend is catching them near sunrise.

Awesome. I hate fishing next to people unless I know them because they are so rude. I would also never walk up and fish super close to someone even if it’s a good spot. That isn’t fishing etiquette. Lol. Barely anyone has it anymore.

How do u detect bite, bobber down or feel the tug
bobber actions, not necessary down, sometimes just small scratches. it is very hard to feel it with these light oval floats, but sometimes i use a bigger and heavier long float and that makes it easier to tighten the line and feel the tug.

i usually keep trying different distance to find the fish. once you find them you just keep casting to the same place.

How do you cook Shad fish. It's smelling very bad..I alway released when its hook...
I heard a lot of complaint about its small bones but u r the first one complaining about the smell LOL. it is just normal fishy smell I think? I might have some more vid about how to cook them, stay tune!

6:01 Be careful of any fish you catch and gave away, even to fisherman who have yet to reach their own limit, since it counts towards your limit not the other fisherman you gave it away to. Fish given away, count towards your daily limit, even if you yourself don't keep the fish, and have yet to reach your limit. Fish that you immediately release back ''alive'' into the water of course do not count to your daily limit. Fish kept after limit would be considered poaching.
For example if the daily limit is 10 fish. If you catch 15 fish, and gave away 5 of them, but kept 10 for yourself, you will be over your daily limit by 5 extra fish. Illegal and considered poaching
But if again you caught 15 fish, gave 5 away, and released 5 alive back into the water and only keep 5, you'd be at limit since the 5 given away still count towards your 10 daily limit.
DFG Rangers if caught you may be fined. I understand that people giving away "pity" fish is common, but realize it counts towards your limits not theirs. Also be careful of culling fish. Or trading your smaller fish for bigger fish that you've kept alive in a live-well or stringer.
thanks for notice! i only landed 25 fish, which is a daily limit, and then stopped fishing. gave some to people fishing near me, and some to my friend on my way home. brought home 0 fish LOL.
If you think about it, I caught those fish in different spots, and gave some away before I headed to the next spot. If I were a greedy fisherwoman, I can totally over that limit without any risk of being caught. But I did not do that, because I obey the rule not to avoid the ticket, but to protect our resources so that we have fish to catch in the future just like any other true fisherman/fisherwoman would do!

ha! i am not good at catfish though, saw a lot of ppl fishing them at night, anchovy as bait, simply throw out with a sinker and wait.
