Late to the show, I guess. I love watching your videos. I have been an opal lover since I got my first opal (and my only opal) about 30 years ago. It was a pale, milky, very small stone in a ring with very little color. I had no idea until a few months ago, that opal could be so gorgeous. Now I am hooked and hope to get more opal one day, when finances allow.
You definitely have some big stones, I was holding my breath watching you work this stone into an amazing piece! You are a very talented lapidary! Your experience shines through as much as your opals do!

I have a braceted and a necklace I made all myself for my mom for her wedding anniversary this year. It's been 42 years they have been married this year! I lurned to make viking knit chain on youtube to make it and use wire wraping to set the stone. I'd love to know what you think.... it's my first jewlery ever actually I'd be honorred for you to want to see it. If not I understand! I have'nt given it to her yet. And I don't even know how I could show it to you. if you want to drill a hole in opal all you need is a dermal or flex shaft and a diamond tip in the right diameter for the hole you want -if you feel like selling your opal I will love to see what you have
@@nirprizant4228 Thanks. I sold most of the good stuff but still have a jar full of just common opal to pieces with some PoC. All around the same size, like he showed in his video. I do have some small cabs but I don't know what they're worth. Someone gave them to me. All Aussie. I could kick myself for not saving the boulder opal, it was beautiful.

Beautiful piece. I think I would dome it out a little more and hide more of the cleft personally. Still a tiny smidge of grey in the center-right. I'm sure you decided it's not worth cutting 5cts more off and losing thousands in value. A nice setting would surely hide a majority of the flaws and accentuate the color. Some people keep flaws in stones to show it's real and actually came from the ground, just hide it at the edge where people won't pay attention much, or where a bezel might hide it, and the flaw honestly adds character to the stone, since we don't know how to man-make flaws yet . . . in stones at least. What are your favorite flawed or slightly-imperfect stones in your collection, I'd imagine this is one of them, but I'd like to see some others that gave you little surprises you decided to keep after cutting them, or maybe ones you're still wrapping your head around how you'll finish them in the future.
Hiya Mr.P, hey when I was a kid I was running with scissors, and I poked my eye out, and now they call me old one eye catfish.😂 No they don't! But really I stuck a stick in my eye and a very great surgeon, put stitches in my eye and after 2yrs my eye was healed, but I still have a scare in my eye, I can see just great. That's a really sexy looking stone, any woman would love to wear. I just hope her husband has deep pockets. Maybe Sheila would like too wear it and show it off for you. Very beautiful stone. @@0dan56 well I'll tell you it was very painful, the Dr. was local so he got too me very quickly, and those stiches were painful to my eyelid, they said they might not be able to save it, but he did. Every time I go too a different eye doctor they say..... hey do you know you have a scare on your eye. And then I have to tell them what happened.

He was in the fifth grade and his immune system was too strong for the replacement cornea, which rejected it. By the way They said he got the cornea from a student after the Virginia Tech shooting. He went through that twice, rejecting both. I'm glad you got through it in the shape you did.
@@0dan56 I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for him, I know it's hard on him too, I was in the 4th grade when it happened to me too, but his must have been worse than mine was, I still have floaters in my eye and if I look at a White wall, I can see a black line, and if the floaters get in my sight I have to shift my eye one side or the other so I can see, it took some getting used too, but it second nature now. Having one eye you have no depth perception, that's hard to deal with for sure. I had a eye patch for 2yrs so I know about that.
This a piece that I'd show to a customer, "as-is". It is a nice size for a pendant. The mounting will be where you can offer a customer the option to have the setting hide the scar. I've had customers show me family gems that have acquired some scars over the years. They become aware that they can find a new use for the family gems. The British Royals have been doing that for centuries.

Help! I live in Canada and have not been able to find anyone in Canada that sells cabbing machines and slab saws. Several companies have accessories for them, but not the actual machines. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Very interesting vid, BTW.
@@PulitzerOpal Thank you for your reply. It's greatly appreciated. There is a 6 drum one there for $3300 Cdn. I was hoping to get a 2 drum one in Canada for about half that. The last time I had something brought in from the States I got a bill from a broker (Western Union I believe), that was more than the item I had bought. That scared me off from ordering anything internationally. It seems odd to me that no one in Canada carries these. Tks for the suggestion though. I had been trying through Amazon, with no luck. Help! I live in Canada and have not been able to find anyone in Canada that sells cabbing machines and slab saws. Several companies have accessories for them, but not the actual machines. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

@@PulitzerOpal Thank you for your reply. It's greatly appreciated. There is a 6 drum one there for $3300 Cdn. I was hoping to get a 2 drum one in Canada for about half that. The last time I had something brought in from the States I got a bill from a broker (Western Union I believe), that was more than the item I had bought. That scared me off from ordering anything internationally. It seems odd to me that no one in Canada carries these.
Tks for the suggestion though. I had been trying through Amazon, with no luck.

@@PulitzerOpal Thanks again for your input. I may take the plunge, but it's scary not knowing the final cost after the brokerage fees. I'm finding it difficult to justify spending upwards of $5000 CDN for a hobby. The only stones here on the island are beach jasper and agates. Low quality and $0.00 value. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone nearby will see this post and sell me a used machine.
