9:36 Season 2 Review
Ok so the Witcher Season 2 is now out on Netflix and the ending has a lot to unpack from it. Just incase you missed Nightmare of the Wolf, that prequel movie somewhat ties into the show and in it we followed Vesemir and watched as he pulled himself out of poverty in order to become a Witcher. Throughout it we discovered that the witchers had been manufacturing the monsters so that they could ride in, save the day and collect the coin.
This secret was unearthed and we saw the sacking of Kaer Morhen first hand and learned why the people had taken a distrust to the witcher. In the aftermath of the battle Vesemir came face to face with a young Geralt and though the old ways of the Witchers had fallen, something better was rising instead.
Now as for season 2, it's very much centred around Ciri, her training and all the characters that are desperate to use her for their own personal gain. Ciri taken to Kaer Morhen and slowly we watch as she taps into her potential but with this comes a whole host of villains that seek to exploit her. Now on the otherside of this we follow Yennefer who in the aftermath of Sodden ends up turning against the mages and she goes on the run with Cahir.
Overtime she discovers just how special that Ciri is and slowly all of the sides start to seek her out. This puts Geralt in a tough position as he wants to protect her no matter what but he also learns that Ciri could potentially bring about the apocalypse. She's also desperate to get revenge on the black knight aka Cahir and thus this puts Yennefer has to wrestle with what to do. Having lost her magical abilities she's very much tempted by Voleth Meir a witch who acts as the villain of the series and thus Yen questions who she should give her loyalties to.
Give her loyalties to Geralt, dear me, I'm starting to talk like the people in the show.
Now Voleth is very much based on the legend of Baba Yaga and this is shown in her house which has the ability to stand on giant chicken legs. Not kidding that's what it is. Come the end of episode 7 we discover that Voleth was imprisoned by the Witchers and only upon having her fill of pain and desperation would she be freed. The villain is fueled by anger, hate and range and we watch as she manipulates several characters throughout the season.
Voleth somewhat becomes the Palpatine of the series as she's someone working in the shadows...and she's also old...I guess.
Now as with every version of the Witcher, almost everything exists within shades of grey and I loved how in the first episode we met a man who had been cursed who we learned over time definitely deserved it. - Zábava
Did anyone else notice when Calanthe, Mouseack and Pavetta were turning to dust in Ciri’s dream, her father did not. Likely as a hint that he was not truly dead.
Yes and I thought the same.
I did notice 🚶♂️
Spoiler because he’s not. And I don’t know why the show told us this early on that he is her father. He was mentioned as duney in season 1 but the show tells us he’s the emperor of nilfgard in ep8. I didn’t know who he was until after I read the 5th or 6th book and why he wanted ciri and what he did to pavetta. After he didn’t turn to ash I new they were going to reveal him. And just as you noticed this I thought ciri would too and question this
You have a good eye.
oh yeah, gr8t pair of eyes dude..
Vesemir: *try several times to kill Ciri*
Geralt: hate bad.
Vesemir: Understandable.
haha, yeah the execution of that probably could've been better
Vesemir cares about her, and didn't want to have to kill her. it was understandable.
Guess so...but then again killing ciri would definitely kill the hope of making more witchers...and killing her just adds 1 more body to the already dead...
@@MyUniqueVibe did you watch the episode?
The funny part is that he DID want to kill her, but he changed his mind 30 seconds after he stabbed her.
@@MyUniqueVibe This isnt the books, this isnt the games. He clearly resented her in the show and wanted her dead and only spared her out of his love for Geralt.
Man I hate that I binge watch these seasons haha I get addicted with it then I come down from it and realise I have to wait another year
Probably gonna be another 2 years. Let’s be real

Welcome to the club lol
For real man. I watched it the same day it came out and like 8 hours down the road i realized i have to wait another year..
Same boat bruv
I liked how when the elf in the sewers got grabbed by the monster, Cahir (the villain) rushed in to try and save him. A villain that's 70% evil is more compelling than one who is 100% evil.
Cahir's not a villain he is an officer of an enemy nation. Doesn't make him a bad guy. Just one focused on his mission.
Cahir's got a whole arc to travel yet. It's only just beginning.
so far Cahir is like an anti hero, but he still has a role to play in the future.
@@violator7964 agree, when on season 1 i fucking hate cahir, he gave the evil guy vibe that i cant wait to see his end, when in s2 Cahir its more portrayed as someone who just want to be useful to his leader and gain recognition, and i fucking love him now.

Something small but cool is how in season 2, episode 2 they have the moving hut in the forest that came straight out of the Russian tale of Baba Yaga.
Hearing her say “Hut hut turn your back to the forest, hut hut turn your front to me” gave me so much nostalgia. I haven’t heard that sentence in so many years
I immediatelly imagined the scene from Морозко, where Ivan keeps ordering the hut to turn to him :))
Not only russian, but we have it in Poland too! I think all slavic nation have their own version of Baba Jaga
Lots of folk lore in this universe!!!
@@meanpersona4686 this is true, its not russian "exclusive", its slavic.
Its Slavic mythology bro,
I love how the "pretty big twist at the ending" is literally basic knowledge if you played the games lmao
Still loved the season it was phenomenal.
That is why it is "big twist" of the season and not of the entire story as in books. Good decision btw.
Seems like season 3 is going to be totally different from the books/games. A lot of things have been altered. Not that I mind, I enjoyed s2 and can't wait for s3. Only thing that bothered me was geralt using ciri as bait, yennefer almost using ciri to regain her powers. They are supposed to have this parent/child bond, granted yen hasn't had nearly enough interaction with ciri for that to develop. Still it was quite vexing to watch. Those actions went against anything we knew about those characters.
@@tounsiforlife2317 For me 'using Citi as bait' was a part of her training and Yen needed an additional twist for this season or otherwise her part would be really boring. For me the main concept of this season is to show that everyone wants or needs Ciri to fulfill their plans or desires (political or personal). That is wny Yen and Vesemir do things that we wouldn't normally expect from them. It's unexpected but fits the main idea behind the entire season. And at the same time we watch Ciri trying to find her own way in this chaos.
@@tounsiforlife2317 it will definitely stray from the books, hopefully not too much as it is a very good story, but it's understandable since it needs to work on that format and many things will seem anticlimactic in the screen if they portray them exactly as they went down on the books.
Take Yen and Ciri for example, in the books they didn't really liked each other in the beginning and only developed that mother-daughter relationship when they both connected sharing about Geralt, the series it would've been like "okay so you're telling me they hated each other and now are friends just because they agreed they both hate how Geralt snores? fuck off" 😅.
Having said that I do think what they did in the series was still fitting of her character to some degree, Yen's always the manipulative type with a secret agenda behind her actions, which is always getting something back like her fertility, her status and power, her magic (in this case), her freedom from nilfgaard (agreeing to help Emhyr find Ciri), or her free will (Last Wish mission in Witcher 3), and that always drags her into a big mess like with the Djinn(s), the Wild Hunt and or Nilgaard itself.
I agree the Vesemir thing was very out of character like @Michał Bełcik said though, Vesemir has always been against creating more Witchers throughout the books and games. But it does make sense for story purposes as well. good start point for their arcs to develop somewhat parallel to the books
Probably why they decided to just do the reveal now, if you've played the games you know who he is. No point in prolonging it. Also, non game or book readers seemed genuinely surprised by the reveal so all in all it was a good play.
Love that they are including the wild hunt which is a major part of the games but kind of a subplot in the books but at the same time it is also highly influenced by the books.
A subplot? There are literal huge chapters about Ciri spending her time in the wild hunt's world.
Subplot? It's one of the main plots.
Did you even read the books??
.... They are setting up for it
@@MrMyKamilsz well yeah but they kinda give up once Ciri escapes. That and whatever entity tried to posses ciri was never explored
Man henry Cavill has really improved so much on his acting skills!!! Absolutely love him as Gerald!!
Yeah he’s excellent
Missed the constant 'hmmm' from season 1
Geralt*
Geralt and Henry is awesome as Geralt
Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen would be 100% better choice! He looks older, and more realistic!
I had no hype for the Witcher franchise going into the first season. I've never played the games or read the books, but Henry Cavil and this show just oozes quality. I really enjoyed the first season and was completely sucked into this season. Now I would love to dive into the lore and play the games. Netflix hit a homerun with this one. 👍👍
Witcher 3 is pretty cool. I'm thinking of getting the books also
Dont know about the older games but the 3. game is a true masterpiece. On the top 5 for me on gaming history.
You should definitely pick up Witcher 3, best RPG adventure game to be ever made with interesting and unique side characters and quests if you truly have time to get sucked in that world + the artwork and the scenery in the game are just so immaculate at places that you would stop and stare for a while. Solid Pick Overall.
read the books, they are way better than this trash
@@matteostanzani375 yikes
You know after seeing Cavil in this series and how he has grown as an actor in it, i wouldn't mind too much if he got to helm a Highlander movie or series. it might actually be good with him in it, specially his nerd and geek cred, he might do the source material justice.
There can be only one!
SPOILERS: I like how Yen got what she wanted because of her giving her blood out of love, and love and blood are powerful and works with the first episode as book ends to the season
Yeah, it's a pretty nice parallels. Just like how monsters aren't about the looks, but about the deeds.
Love and blood. The one that broke that guys curse
If you think about it, if Voleth Meir's masterplan was to get free, get some revenge on the witchers, jump thru some mages bodies and eventually go to her sphere horse riding looking like The Kurgan from Highlander :), then Yen fulfilled her end of the bargain and got her powers back exactly like Voleth Meir promised.
It was honesltly a bit silly, but I get it Book Yennefer just took take of Ciri and taught her magic, becoming a mother figure for her, then took her to Aretuza to train. Not exactly exciting TV.
Yes. It proves that, despite what hardcore book fans would like you to believe, the writers actually know what they are doing.
(Note: i am by no means saying that the writing is perfect, nor am i taking a dog at fans of the book. Im just stating the fact that people who like the show never read the books while most people who dislike it have read them. I am also not judging them as i can understand where they are coming from. You have known and loved something and now they are changing some more/story lines (for better or worse) and you have certain expactations you want to have met. Still i would like to give the advice to see the show as a parallel timeline to the books/games/what ever time line you are attached to and just try and enjoy it rather than nit picking on every change and deviation from the books)
Spent all morning watching it. Then I had to go to work. But I loved this season. It was awesome seeing Yennefer work through losing her magic, finding her own strength without it, and then getting it back again. I do hope that in Season 3, Triss will have a bigger part to play. At first I didn’t like Frigila in season 1, but I came to like her this season. Felt terrible for Francesca as well. It was nice seeing their friendship blossom.

I like the reference of Geralt`s medallion on the game, they showed it when ezkel died and vesamir hanged his medallion
Yes I knew somebody else had to see that as well
The Silver Sword is also shown, idk if its only in the Game but it wasnt in season 1 if I remember correctly
Ya I seen that. Bullshit about Eskel though!
While I really like this season, I also a bit conflicted with the changes from the books & some obvious plot convenients that showed multiple times. It could be argued such stuffs are driven by Magic itself, like prophecy destiny stuffs, but some are really too obvious LOL
I do like some characters got more scenes than they supposed to. Hopefully with this, we get to see other characters that skipped over in this season, when they supposed to be already appeared.

Witcher deserve more attention that what they already have. This season is so good, its pack with actions, fun, excitement, thrill and full of drama, they've surpassed what they have done in season 1. Henry really step it up as well as Freya she killed it as Ciri same thing goes for Anya as Yennefer. The cast is filled with top notchs actors and actress too. Can't wait for what this universe has to offer, keep it coming netflix!
The witcher is currently one of the most popular netflix shows ever
I enjoyed Jaskier playing the voice of the writers and telling the audience to shove it with the timeline shenanigans from season 1.
I loved this season of The Witcher. Henry Cavill is amazing as Geralt. This season reminded me a lot of Games of Thrones but kept its identity all the way through. My only negative was the number of episodes. I feel if it had more, They could have developed the Elves and other certian characters. Apart from that, I'm sad it's all over, looking forward to season 3 plus Blood Origin!! 9/10 for me.
Agreed
Because of covid at the time. At least 10-12 episodes

It was interesting in Ciris dream world, her father didn’t get dusted probably to hint he was still alive
Because her father isnt dead and its stated right at the end of episode 8 exactly who he is
The father was shown at the end of the season finale
That would be a fun theory to discuss but unfortunately they shove the answer down our throats like five minutes later :)

I loved this season. I think they could’ve stretched it out to 12 episodes. Some of the plotting could’ve been elaborated on a bit more.
This season was definitely an improvement from the first - from the acting to the plot, wardrobe and cgi, etc. The Witcher season 3 will probably be even more successful and the turning step for the show similar to what happened to the Game of Thrones. I just hope it has a better ending
I liked season 1 better
Looking seggzy ma
I think season 1 was better although I love them both s1 was based more on geralts story and who doesn’t love geralt
I thought S1 was better by far (especially the CGI, we kept commenting how horrible the CGI was in S2 😂)
BUT I did think this one had more story to it & that’s what kept us watching.
Definitely not

I wanted to read the books since i played the game early on at the pandamic. The fact that the witcher does not closely follow the books actually makes me want want to read them more and allows me to still be surprised
They are pretty good. It mostly follows characters who are caught up in crazy situations and minus Ciri can do nothing about the social and political madness that happens around them.
The book are pretty good but in some of those the writing is jarring.

Excited to see Emhyr and Geralt interact seeing as, if I'm not mistaken, Geralt helped him on the wedding day when he looked like a wolf or something...? It's gonna be awesome.
Yeah emhyr was duney the cursed hedgehog man
He was called Duny then
i've noticed ciri's eyes aren't a consistent color throughout the series. there were times were they were electric blue and other times yellow greenish and i wonder if this is an editing issue or intentional since geralt and yen's eyes were the same color throughout.
I really enjoyed this season and agree with the pacing, it was less confusing and you learn more about the character. I would love to hear your comment about Rience.
I don't play the game or read the novel - so I don't know what's his deal is and who he's working for

I thought this season was defiantly an improvement this season loved there more monster fights then the first season, and the relationship between Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer but this season felt more like a setup season so I hope all hell breaks loose next season.
I feel like both seasons have been set up seasons and as a casual fan I'm not sure how I feel about waiting another 1-2 years for hell to break lose!😩

I kinda expected Ciri's father to play a big part because I noticed as Ciri was snapping out of her dream sequence and her Mother/Father was asking her to stay, her father did not fade away in the background. Everyone else who faded away was already dead so I took that as him being alive and having a bigger part to play.
there's a massive foreshadowing in the dusting scene as well! everybody that died gets dusted, except for the father, who we later learn is still very much alive :)

The emperor cast out the two characters in the end because they lied to him. I'm just glad there's no weird time jumps, it's so much easier to follow. I'm stoked for the next season.
That's what made season 1 so great! It's more fun to have the time jumps and have to figure out what's going on. We aren't stupid and don't need the storyline spoon-fed to us.
I actually really missed the non linear timeline in this season. Everything felt so spoon fed and SO. MUCH. EXPOSITION.
This was a fantastic season. As much as I enjoyed season 1, it was nice not to have to run to Google to figure out what was going on this season. Of course if I did Paul was here with another great video. And what a great year for fantasy and sci-fi. This season, Foundation, Arcane, The Expanse, Wheel of Time, Lost in Space, Loki and more. I was surprised. It's good. Keeps my brain working!
The portrayal of magic in this show is often confusing. Mages come across almost godlike at times, but then utterly ineffective in others.
That's same as in the books. Mages after being shackled in Dimeritium, which takes away their powers. It is not explained well, or even all.
They shouldn't of setup the rules of needing equal power source to make magic.
Every time they cast anything, things should die around them.
@@meoff7602 It's a show thing. The books only talk about tapping into natural sources of power like Leylines. Also fire magic isn't forbidden in the books. Yennefer just tells Ciri not to use it when teaching her since it is dangerous and requires years of practice and study. But show changed a lot of the rules surrounding magic.
@@godemperorcarlo Hence the reason they shouldn't of set it up like that.

If you've read the books, there were some things that were different but similar that still worked well... some very interesting twist.
As someone who read the books it’s so annoying when other readers complain about how the show doesn’t follow the book plot line perfectly. The Witcher show isn’t an adaptation. It’s only inspired by some stories.

Edit: Others noticed it too apparently. 😋
ah nice catch
I never played the game or read the books, so my opinion will be different to people who are already familiar with the story.
But I actually thought this season was not as good as season one. I just finished the entire thing and I’ve already forgotten half that happened. I was watching the entire time waiting for something to happen… idk what exactly, but all of a sudden it was episode 6 and I still wasn’t ‘in it’.
Also, the pace was off, at the start everything felt like it was happening really fast and half way throughout it was slow. Furthermore I thought the final episode was not as dramatic and intense as it could have been… it did not really feel like a finale to me. Also I was confused at times, I was paying attention but I just didn’t get the whole Dijkstra/Dara’s storyline. Also the two actors who play Tissaia and Vilgefortz have zero chemistry, I’m sorry but there’s nothing there.
Idk if anyone agrees… bc a lot of reviews are positive. But please don’t come for me, it’s just my subjective opinion :)
Ps: what's their obsession with contact lenses???
Well, I read the books, and most of this is new for me too. The thing is, they are covering the third book, Blood of the Elves, and it's pretty much a filler book, not much happens, Ciri goes to train with Witchers, than goes to train with Yennefer in Nenneke's temple. Yennefer losing powers, monoliths, monsters coming back, most of the things with Franceska, the whole Baba Yaga thing. Nothing was in the books
@@user-qv9dn5kw4e thank you!!! I’ve not played the games and have read up to half of the book of baptism of fire. I liked the 1st season better because it actually had a lot from the books. I found it to be an average season. I don’t think I want to watch it again, not like season 1 that I watch several times.
I feel the same, the pace is so off. The first season last episode was so explosive
@@user-qv9dn5kw4e Thanks! That's good to know. Also that's a good way of putting it, it does feel like a filler season to help introduce the story for season three. I'm happy that fans of the games and books are generally happy with the season. But just as @SgtSerg420 said, I won't be rewatching this season...
@@laura91215 The thing they really messed up it the reveal that Emhyr is Duny. That's the biggest plot twist books have to offer and it's revealed in the last book, and here they put it in the end of season two

I liked the conclusion you have reached from the retelling of A Grain of Truth by the show, because I think you are completely right, only that even book fans seem to be telling everyone that this was a close adaptation, even though the changes that were made completely change the moral of the story….great analysis
Great review! I loved that you noticed the acting getting better and better for Cavill! One small visual thing I kinda didnt like was the outside scenes, which were not so well made. Look bland and too common. Those moments take away the fantasy for me. What do you think ?
I really enjoyed it I love this show alot! I just really hope they fix the helmets of the wildhunt as I really enjoyed their look from the game which to me made them feel more menacing and dangerous to have to deal with.
"Voleth is very much based on the legend of Baba Yaga"
Man, even in the Witcher Universe you're not safe from John Wick.
I enjoyed your review, but you keep talking about the direction the series might go referencing the games. Excuse me, but aren't you aware that the show is first and foremost an adaptation of the books??? Though it seems that in between filming series 1 and 2 the show's producers got into some kind of agreement with the games' creators which means they can use some elements like designs etc., the main source of the show are still the books! In the words of the book's author, the games are a sort on non-canonical sequel to the novels. All the story lines in the games happen some years after the main events in the books. Season 3 will be based on the 4th book (and 2nd novel, the first 2 being collections of short stories), A Time of Contempt. Season 2 was mainly based on the first of the novels, Blood of Elves, and - changes notwithstanding - largely follows the main trajectory of that book. The appearance of the Wild Hunt at the end was actually taken from A Time of Contempt, and while the Hunt may well make another appearance in future seasons, it probably won't become a major player until the adaptation of the final book, The Lady of the Lake.
Deathless mother > voleth meir she was like o'dimm and the 3 crones in the Witcher 3 like that too wild hunt eredin want ciri the daughter of chaos
Season 3 will be fun on the run using portals
As someone who's read the books and played the game i can't help but feel a lil let down for this season.
However looking on the bright side, they also include things from the book sometimes in a slightly, moderate, and totally different twist.

Let down (range from slightly to moderate):
Eskel death, sometimes awkward slightly bad acting > triss smiles too much, emyhr's actor doesnt look...strong...but we'll see how it goes, uhh theres more to coddringer and fenn scene..., michilette brothers ambush geralt at night when he's alone in a alley or sumtin and geralt is pissed and goes HAM (WHICH HE DOES IN THE SHOW so thats a plus), and thats wat i got so far which i can recall from the books at a glance.

I'm so excited for this! I enjoyed the first season quite a bit!
Then you wont like the second season. Its pure garbage dont waste your time.
@@meb8252 that’s your own opinion
I finished season two last night and at the end, wondered if I fell asleep at some point and missed something.
I loved that the guards critique of the bards song was a critique of the time jumps and other things in the first season.
The way I interpreted the ending is that everyone wants Ciri for their own agenda, either dead or to save them, and Geralt just wants to protect her until she's strong enough to make her own decisions. Ironically, she is safest with the same people that could die at a whim from any monster hunt they go on.
The season was a step up, i felt more invested in the Characters and how they're gonna open up the world if there's one thing i really wish they would add from the games its color in the magic, it could use more vibrance & theatrics especially for Geralt's signs & Ciri's teleportation power, it would make the action pop and look so much more exciting, they should make good use of the HDR as they did in the Animated movie
I haven’t read the books so maybe it happened in them but I’ve played all the games and I find it crazy that ciri was able to sneak up on the Witcher’s in the keep and slit their throats. I feel like the show kind of dulls their powers sometimes for the sake of the show or the plot. It was a damn good season tho!
Fun fack that never happened in the books
This whole plot of Yennefer losing her powers, the monoliths and that daemon never happened in books
but she is possessed by a powerfull grandma witch tho, sneak spell should be easy for hear
the only explanation would be baba yaga use her magical powers while possessing Ciri's powerful body, to silently assassinated some of the witchers.
There aren't 20 Witchers in the Books only 5. Lambert, Eskel, Cole, and Vaesemir are the only ones in the Keep besides Geralt. So I guess the show brought in all the extras so can they kill them off.
Just got done binging season 2 (just able to get time to watch it!). Love the review, dude!! Thank you for all you do!
Great review, I want to go back and watch the anime now and I like how you tied it into the games.
Just finished episode 1. Will come back to watch!!
This show so good 🔥🔥🔥 first episode went crazy
First episode was the best episode of the season.
This show i so bad 💩 💩 💩 first episode went shit. read books
Good work mate.
Henry is so serious about his roll as The Witcher he shaved his mustache.
😂😂😂😂 now that's funny a comment...
Dude, when I saw the house on the chicken legs me and my brother were yelling "BABA JAGAAAA" at the screen. Our grandma used to "scare" us with her when we wanted to go to the forest by ourselves.
it's the cool thing about the Witcher universe, Sapkowski based all the monsters and many characters from traditional slavic folklore, it's like a breath of fresh air with all the greek, celtic, and norse mythology.
Honestly, I think the first episode of each season was gold. Then the rest of each season was just really good but not quite gold.
One of my favourite bits was the dock guy criticizing jaskiers songs which was actually the fans criticizing season one lol
Truly enjoyed this season and I’m ready for Blood Origin. Michelle Yeoh as an elf?! SIGN ME UP!!!
Ciri just broke the multiverse
🤔 it's already broken, Ciri is building bridges and reconnecting it 😉
The 9 realms. They exist in a Nordic version of the Universe. So they are going through a version of Ragnarok which is also called the Time of Contempt, the time of the sword and the Axe. And the tree they keeping showing in the show and the murals is Yggdrasil obviously.
Season 2 is much appealing than season 1. In season 2 storyline is steamline, paying attention to the relationship, rather than just monster hunting.
I agree season 2 is better than season 1. I would give season 1 a 6 or a 7. And season 2 an 8. It's still not at the level of a 9 or 10 for me yet. Issues with pacing and slightly with conveying Witcher terminology which you gotta google if you haven't played the game or read the books.
@@GeekRaj i would flip those two -- s1 is so much better than s2. i really don't see how people are loving this season.

Loved it but i feel as though they killed the witchers off to easily i know it’s very few of them but i would expect a Witcher is hard to kill it would be nice if they were to start bringing witchers back even tho the trail was dangerous

This season was 10/10 imo. Such amazing content and stories, I hope the show continues to do well.
Anyone notices that the dock guard who talks to Yaskier has a familiar voice? Alastair Parker is a voice actor in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. I thought he sounded familiar.
Agreed 100%.
Every next book is better than the previous one, so the show has no reason not to be as well.
what the fuck man, its shit 2/10 they completely doestroeyd my favorite series... such a shame!

Good summary - and the Season 2 is great - good mix of character development, plot and action... Henry entirely rocks!
I was rewatching the first season, and in the first episode after the ballroom scene and then your second encounter with Renfri your given the time jump clue, and then every episode after that if you pay attention closely they reference the different timelines. I didn't notice it when I first watched it and I think it's a pretty cool detail.
This is why I subscribed to your channel.
Why is no one discussing how much of a “screw you” this whole season is to the fans of the books? In any show that’s based on a book series, the readers know that some artistic license will be taken. With this season of the show, though, the writers have not only made up characters and plot lines, they’ve completely dislocated the entire tone and plot of the next 75% of the book series. The writers should be ashamed
Nah just book fans dont know how to take things with a grain of salt. They expect it to be a literal copy and paste of the narrative the books have already produced. If you werent a fan of the tv series, my best advice would be to read a book.
IDC about the book but compared to season 1 it was really bad writing.
@@jerrerock See that I can understand. I Never said this season wasn't bad at all.
@@jerrerock Im just sick of people saying they didnt like the series because its different from the books. All I hear is that its different from the books and not a lot of how said differences HAVE impacted the show in a negative way. (But I do agree Eskels death sucked and shouldnt have happened)
@@nizzanator The reason we have the right to complain is cuz they sold this as an ADAPTAION, and very often said they would stick to the books, but hey if people can call us out on being purists, we can call you out on being suck ups for Netflix.
And the main issue is the bad writeing as you mentioned..
No offence to you directly, but im just as pissed as you are, but im pissed at the people who think we are mad fanboys cuz it isnt copy paste -.-, no we are mad cuz they Butchered prexisting characters to the ground in this seasson.... Not to mention plot holes, plot lines that lead no where and portals being used as a plot device, that was a stupid idea.
And on the point you said about saying how the differnces effected the show in a bad way:
yenefer and vesemir are heartless bastards in the show, in the books they would never intentionaly hurt ciri, in the show they just have a change of heart cuz LOVE, its ok but lazy, they should have the love form the start.
Nenekke is more mysterios and strict and when we finally see her warm and careing side it has a much bigger impact.
Geralt was aight.
Everything else is their own story that isnt even connected to the books.
And the whole "elder blood flower for mutagens" is something that comes out of nowwhere and leads to Guess what.... nowhere literally nothing important comes of it, that chick drinks it and gg, and no witcher would ever WANT to put anyone through that becouse they know how horrible that is especialy vesemir, the witchers know they are a dying breed and in the books monsters are dying out not spawning even more often.
The show makes it seem sometimes like witchers like being witchers (another difference with a negative effect cuz I think geralt says it in the show, that they didnt choose this life) they were forced into it (pls dont pull out the animated show as a reference, vesemir never said he came there willingly, i liked the animated movie tho, cuz from the start noone was Selling it like it was from the books.)
And that flower is also something that doesn't exist the books, the mutagens are seacrets know only to the alchemysts and mages that are all dead, Witchers themsleves were never allowed to know how to make more witchers, and Thriss knowing the spell to make the mutagen isnt explained at all.... Makes it seem like its common knowlage, and I think everyone who read the books or only watched the show realises how uncommon it is and that everyone who knew this died. I think that was taken form the Uma quest form the game.
There those are the differences that made the plot worse and felt bland, becouse half of it is shrugged off. there is much more like monoliths and that demon baba yaga, but those dont exist at all in the books so it is irrelevant for this, neather good nor bad imo, just different.
And yenefer is completly different, and to me she didnt seem that strong until she gave her blood cuz of love, why even do the whole "betrayal" arc just to end on what was allready established in her character in the books is beyond me. They changed sooo much, and in the end half of it didnt have an impact on anything.
In the books yenefer is asked by geralt teach ciri magic, and she comes to the temple and is a bit harsh and cold at the start, and then in time warms up to Ciri becouse all she ever wanted was a child and insted of focusing on that (and it was established EVEN IN Netflix SEASSON 1 that yenefer wants a child most of all) we got this slefish story of her wanting her magic and the whole mother doughter part was only shown in the last episode.
And she doesn't lose her magic in the books, all of that was to push yens screen time.
And one last thing something they could have changed (since they like changew so much) is that insted of thriss, Yenefer is the one that comes to kier mohren, and that could start their development, there if they wanted more screentime for her imo i would love too see more Yen and Ciri in the show
, see? I dont mind changes ( I LOVED SEASON 1 even with the changes) as long as it isnt a hollow plot that honestly should feel cold to non book fans as well, ad I saw in some comment that this is true.
ALSO a lot lot lot of problems with the Elfs, but no freckinh way can I add that to this Huge ass commemt....
There, no hate man, just defending us fanboys.
I know its huge.... But this is the smallest way to show the negative side of the changes like you asked.
Bb
Anyone else notice the reference to the inflatable unicorn that “broke” that yen brought up
Nobody going to talk a yennefers cloak
Didn't t she won t to keep a low profile
That cloak is literally scream "LOOK HERE I WANT EVERYONES ATTENTION ON ME"
I thought purple was a bad disguise the whole time. At least Cahir was in brown.
Gotta remember that Ciri is in her early to mid 20s in Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, and a lot has happened since. Geralt and Yennifer are captured by the Wild and ride with them for a time, Ciri rescues them but both lose their memories (that's the start of The Witcher games) Ciri then goes on the run from the Wild hunt and has her own journey, finding Avalach and learning to travel through worlds trying hide, while Geralt's story continues in the games, we don't see Ciri for a long time after that.
what thee fuck man read books u bring shame to polish witcher
The game pretty much has its own canon based on the book series end. So I wouldn't count on any game plot being overly relevant except we might get more Triss who is a minor chracter in the books.
@Kraze No, it's in the games

Yeah this is so awesome after playing all the games and loving them so much to have someone like Henry who also fell into the games head 1st makes the show so much better
Man season 2 was great. The highlight of the season to me was eveything with Kaer Morhen especially Vesemir and Geralt and Ciris relationship. You could see how she grows on him and also how the Witchers slowly grow to love her too. I can’t wait for season 3 i don’t wanna wait another 2 years!!!
Doubt it will be two years this time, part of the wait was due to Covid
Henry Cavill has become my favourite Geralt, I never thought I would like his version over Peter Kenny, but Henry blew me away in ssn 2!
Who is Henry Cavill? I thought Geralt was just playing himself
I think there are too many changes from the books...

I'm confused couldnt Ciri's father simply ask for his daughter instead of attacking citra or am I missing something
Yeah or just come and visit
Remember he's suppose to be dead at sea with her mother
Spoiler Alert
I can't remember it was the books or the games (witcher 3), but her father want's to forcibly marry her and have a child or something to create a powerful weapon, but in the end he abandons that plan when Geralt convinces him otherwise.
Probably because knowing the grandmother she probably wouldnt have given her up knowing that ciri was the child of prophecy
Well considering you werent supposed to know who he was til around book 6 or 7 or the end of the show. I guess not? It's also part of larger plot that may not even happen now since the show is now pretty diverged from the book story. So I don't know either.
Thanks for the video, however, the cadence on your voice - very melodical throughout, started to be too much for me to continue to the end. Might work on that...
Awesome! Thanks
Oh how it sucks! Is it me or Netflix made the story dumb for certain audience? If it is supposed to look like this, they should quit and leave the rest of the books and fanbase in peace.
Agreed, and I haven't even read the books or played the games. They really dumbed down the storyline and writing in season 2. It's insulting to us viewers. We aren't stupid, we don't need to be spoon-fed. I HATED when the characters explained themselves in season 2 (like the writers thought we couldn't figure it out for ourselves). Season 1 was better because it forced us to think and figure it out.
They admitted doing this for Game of Thrones and it definitely cost them in the end
