Disney saw how big a hit the Rugrats movie was and at the last minute decided to put the movie in theaters
Disney had this spree of putting most of their planned DTV movies/sequels to theatre during the early 2000s (likely because they were lacking many big hits from their mainstream studio at the time), it was only when Jungle Book 2 bombed in box office that they decided to release them how they were supposed to be. It's just that a lot of them like The Tigger Movie and Return To Neverland did at least look worthy animation wise, while this is clearly a feature length episode of the TV series.

The only reason this was featured in theaters was because the Rugrats movie did so well. And you know Hollywood, “If this one thing worked for that movie, then it must work for all movies.”

Seeing this close to death robot struggle so much to take a couple steps because it's worried about something it loves while they just run away isn't just cruel and sad but you know, a character feature that isn't 1 dimentional, this robot deserved more screen time

You know how The Rugrats, Spongebob and other cartoons all got animation upgrades when they were made into movies? Notice something lacking here!? This is literally a TV movie brought to theaters. Say what you will about my other examples but they were given movie budgets and animation standards.

Agreed. However what’s really ironic is that the theatrical movie we got was originally intended as a tv special, while the INTENDED theatrical movie(the jungle movie) made its way to tv instead.

Don't lose hope on that. Nickelodeon announced recently that it's bringing back "Hey Arnold! " for a TV movie called "Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie." And if it's a hit, then there's talk that Nickelodeon might try to revive a lot of it's old shows, even some of it's old live action ones too like Clarissa Explains it All and etc. In fact, there's even been speculation that they could do a continuation of "Doug" too if they're able to work something out with Disney.

One thing i never understood about this cartoon and the movie is why do most of the characters (expect doug and a few others) have tons of different but strange skin colours like green and purple? Why? Is it a stylistic choice like the simpsons?

Well, that really is a dumbass move.
Can you really blame him on this scene? Him saying that there's a monster caused by a Political Figure's mass pollution to someone RIGHT NEXT TO A GOOD FRIEND OF SAID POLITICAL FIGURE, and then trying to make that look like a fool by admittibg to having evidence of it is a Grade-A Dumbass move!
Also the writer used the word proof too many times. So the writer is doing a dumbass move by writing redundant dialogue. I mean the word proof is used 3 times (well technically 2 because guy said prove).

I remember back at summer camp they used that movie to punish us once. Some kid wouldn't get in line outside the door (like we were supposed to) and started walking into the parking lot to test the councilors. So one said "okay, if Joey here doesn't get in line we're all watching the Doug movie instead of taking a vote." (Usually between three PG rated films.) The campers went from not caring to screaming at him to get on line. He didn't listen, and we ended up watching this movie.
I do not envy you, though in fairness, at least it wasn't Son of the Mask. No reason..
Huh. I would thought Nostalgia Critic would have really appreciated Doug, for being a simple slice of life show aimed at kids. it wasn't trying to be the most funny or the most impressive Nicktoon, it was just trying to tell genuine stories with genuine characters.
Granted, Hey Arnold did this much better, but.
Doug is really biased on things like this, as he himself said (not a perfect quote): "Critics are also people, and they live through the exact same emotional traumas other people do"
I agree, Hey Arnold did it much better. Why else would they bring Hey Arnold back with a full length movie for 2017?

i think it's funny how he mentions how forgettable the theme song is because the ABC version of the doug theme always kind of stuck with me for some reason. i honestly didn't even watch the show much, but i didn't have cable TV back in the day so the only version of doug i ever saw was the ABC version with that theme song.
I heard an interview with the creator Doug on the Nickelodeon animation podcast. He said that Doug's First Movie was supposed to be a TV movie but at the last minute Michael Eisner decided that it would make a good theatrical movie.
Ugh.....smooth move Michael......VERY BAD decision because if that movie was NOT in theatres it would NOT have lost so much money and THEN Jim Jinkins could have continued with the show and the fans could have seen Doug get with Patti!! Bad Michael!! BAD BAD BAD!!!

The name "1st movie" is kind of a trend with big movie studios: Pokémon The First Movie and Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie.
But, again, as NC said, they already knew that there would be more Pokemon/Captain Underpants movies
The first Captain Underpants was subtitled "The First Epic Novel" so...it kind of...makes sense
I hope they make a CaptainUnderpants sequel I have an idea for it which could really work Professor Poopypants and Melvin create a photocopier that turns people into the characters George & Harold made in their comics creating real life equivalents Of Bionic Booger Boy, Wedgie Woman, Sir Stinks-a-lot, the Alien lunch ladies and Doctor Diaper And George, Harold And Captain Underpants have to stop them from getting the 3rd year anniversary comic book issue of Captain Underpants where they meet their evil counterparts

PS85 Gaming Dog's voice is the same as Heffer's (and SpongeBob's, but it's not the same technique)
close.. as well as Dog's Voice. The reason Dog's voice always drove me nuts was because he had a weird accent and a Lisp and was high pitched. his voice was terrible. I hate Spongebob's voice also. Heffer's voice comes the closest to dog's voice.

But they don't have unibrows, it just looks like someone shaved off one of their eyebrows in their sleep, but it keeps changing sides :P
BroadwayLover I think I remember a joke in one EEnE episode where Ed unibrow fell off. So, it's not out of the realm of possibilities for the brow to shift.
Probably just a stylistic choice.
