      I like to reach with my under hooking hand and grab the angle of the person whose guard I’m passing (with an over under pass, if that wasn’t clear)

      Totally agree. When people pancake on me when I’m transitioning in north south, I just continue to back control. I think that an escapee that relies on being able to do a push-up plus weight, and then explode forward into a take down is probably not practical for all ages. I love me some Giles though, so not shit talking here.

    what do you think about doing the stiff arm (turkish get up) escape with a c-grip under the armpit instead of the outside of the elbow when you push your opponent over your body? I often use this as an americana defense (with sometimes a reversal as benefit).

    In regard to the escape at min 6:00. I’m watching Danaher side control escape, he doesnt shift his hip all the way out like you did. Instead, Danaher shifts his hip slightly, just enough to get the right leg into the guys hips, then he proceeds to recover a full guard. Here you shrimped your hips far out to shift and get that right leg into his hips before proceeding to recover a full guard. Can you explain to me the advantages or disadvantage in shifting/shrimping all the way out or doing so to get just enough space to get you leg into the hip.

    • @Juzam777
      @Juzam777 Před 4 lety +1

      John Danaher also uses his left foot to trap the partner's right ankle (he "captures the knee"), where Lachlan puts his left knee inside the biceps. John is making what Lachlan calls a "mistake" but by doing what I just said, he shifts his body so he can free his leg.
      I think both approaches are good, you should try both and see what fits you the most

    Love the Video, Great movements and transitions. As a Judo guy primarily it is cringe when I see extended arms, open chokes, and arm bar link ups left open as you are trying to transition and slide into better position. Understandably great movements for what you are demoing. Also from that first position once you are pressing your opponent off of you the transition into a modified side control with Kesa-gatame is wide open with your extended arms. Both arms could be scooped up and locked which would allow you to free the inside (closest) arm but would unfortunately trap the outside arm and lock you into that side control from there. I'd love to see you show that transition and escape with your partner in the future!
    Great video

    That's wrong on so many levels. The idea is to fight for underhook! That's exactly why I dislike BJJ and MMA. First one complicates what is otherwise a simple concept, transforming it into lower percentage techniques along the process. As for the second one, it lacks real personal experience. You simply go by the copy&paste rule without even trying to find simpler, better solutions. No way I call this knowledge!
