Zero dislikes because everyone hates being in bottom side control
What a better way to start your Sunday with some good tips and knowledge from this channel.
"Understand that I have one goal..." Channeling John Danaher now! Great video again thanks.
Every time I see this charismatic so of a gun I know I'm about to learn something great!
I was just rewatching a bunch of your fundamental videos, perfect timing thanks mate 😘

Thank you professor Tom🙏🙏🙏 for this great lesson.
Thank you Professor Tom! Your videos are game changers each one.
Some great side control defense fundamentals, and a beautiful sweep at the end! Thanks, guys!
These are awesome! Thx
Still loving on you guys from Alabama! Coach Tom You da Man!
Cheers Prof Tom 👍 love the way you explain things.
Really useful. Thank you professor.
Great video! Can't wait to try these!
Ayo! Side control weeks at the academy right now. Perfect timing :)

This is the best Jiu Jitsu channel on CZcams

This is an outstanding video. Thank you!
Excellent content, just keeping my game sharper, thank you sir.
Came across these looking shin on shin stuff, excellent series of videos. Love them!
By far one of the most helpful bjj channels out there.. Precise, clear and effective techniques, thanks Tom!
Thanks for this video. As a new WB I’ve been finding myself stuck in side control often
Really enjoy these videos from Professor Tom. Very valuable information for a new white belt!
I am shocked.. what an exceptional escape. Good on you mate!! One of the best channels on YT for sure. Cheers
Thanks coach. Ive connected with your coaching style more than anyone else I’ve found online yet. That’s why I bought your blue belt instructional! Great stuff! I hope to train with you fellas when I visit Australia. Thanks for what you do my friend.
This is an awesome birthday present for me this morning! Escaping side control has been on my mind a lot lately, and your instructionals are always concise and enlightening. Thanks Professor Tom! That reversal is so sick, by the way. Osu!
I have watched many youtube videos about side control scape, but none of them have talked about those details. Thanks a lot!
Great videos! I come from a wrestling background and am in day four of my BJJ training. I find these videos immensely helpful for my mental preparation before hitting the mats. Thank you for taking the time to share.
I am a beginner to jj/grappling and my teacher just began teaching me the basic side control escape - and your video of the escape is an excellent supplement to my lessons. Thanks for making it so understandable to a newcomer.
Awesome stuff. Would enjoy your ideas on how to deal with low side control/door stop side control as well!
You’re a good coach
You explain easy and well and I try to practice thing what you gave us
Especially for beginners
Thank you!
Thanks a lot I see all your videos you explain well and also learn from you this is great! Waiting for more videos thank you very much
Thanks again for another great technique! This happened to me last Wednesday at No Go-his side control was too good so I kept getting stuck, leading him to take my back. I’ll be using this next class 😈😈 thanks Tom!!
loving the details here Tom, any chance of coming to Sydney for a few seminars this year?
Awesome! I love your content sir. Curious if you could maybe do a video covering knee on belly escapes? There’s a particular student at my gym who sort of defaults to knee on belly from side control whenever I (or someone else) builds good frames on him.
top bloke!
Man I love your videos. I just finished my 2nd BJJ class ever now about to head to my 3rd and your videos are so insightful. Definitely want to try some of these cool moves
Thank you so much for this video
I`m a blue belt who is stocky and strong, so I get to roll with the giants most of the time, and the details shared here helped me remember what I needed to do when in bottom side control against a bigger and stronger opponent of equal skill.
I went from being the victim to being much better prepared to reverse the position against them.
You have some of the best BJJ content on YT. Keep it up, Professor!
Great video coach! Could you please do a video on ground and pound too? And overall more MMA related stuff? appreciated coach
Excelent video. Thanks a lot for all the explanations in diferent cenarios. Very, very good.
Thank you big dog your attitude is great always reminds me to keep going no matter what !! Jui Jitsu for life Honda For Life
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos 🤙 OSS!!
Earnt a subscriber!
@The Grappling Academy do you sell those rashguards??? they are awesome!!!!
First time I see those reverse from side control, I need to try it lol
Every time I watch a video I come away with some GOLD and then me and my wife practice and she appreciates it so much. I have about a good 60+ pounds on my wife and she struggles doing some moves to me, but then she goes to class and damn near masters that move! Thanks!
Another awesome video. I'm only four weeks into by bjj journey (3 times/week) and have already used a few techniques I've watched here. I'll be drilling these tomorrow before class.
Is there not a patreon for this channel? I think there used to be. I'd love to buy coach Tom 'a coffee' - it would be a bargain for this quality content.
I really appreciate this video, amazing tips and really was helpful, I'm new just started bjj 2 months ago and I'm loving it, I think I found my calling in life lol.. thanks again! Love from Egypt
So many good BJJ channels on youtube but this has become my favourite, thanks mate :)
Can you do a video on how to control the person on bottom when they have underhooks in side control?
Also that last technique looks great, cant wait to start drilling it.
Thanks.
This is honestly one of the best videos on side control that I've seen. Thank you very much Professor Tom!
My pleasure Brad!
Nice thank you! Knee to elbow!
Thank you coach Tom. I am a small guy but quite strong so I guess I might be able to surprise my opponents with two explosive moves of you showed here. But as I got this a lot, I can almost certain they will say "you're using too much strength, jujitsu is about technique!!" what should be my reply to them ?
Awesome shit man! 3 months into grappling having trouble in side control, I'm about to try this out man.
It would be cool if you could share some tips on what to do when my partner has kesa gatame on me. Thanks dude and keep it coming its awesome!!!!
Hey, man! I'm about a month and half in and I highly recommend you check out some of his older videos. He has tons of good stuff on Kesa Gatame. I recommend you watch the Kesa Gatame attack system before you learn the escapes, because It helped me a LOT to know how my partner might attack me while I'm trying to escape. Have fun!
thanks for the tips seriously. Been a striker since i was a kid and really thought it was about time i got good at grappling, never wanted to feel THAT unsafe if a fight happened and it ended the ground. I am a 2 stripe white belt now and needless to say it feels like i have no idea what am doing partly because almost any gym ive been at (been to so many due to travelling a lot, uk, sweden, cyprus..), i almost never gotten coached. It's like the coaches just teach 3 techniques, ill be lucky if they come over to explain some details to me and then during rolling they will just be watching the 10-20 students with minimal advise whatsoever. Then i feel like am bothering when i ask ppl to explain what they did to me after rolling n stuff.
So yeah, when u say stuff it just clicks and makes it easier to understand and to remember.
I managed to fail the ´rainy day` escape and ended up doing a rolling Ude gatame instead, i guess that works to. Thanks Prof Tom.
It's 7am and I'm back from the morning class. Got a little smashed in side control. First stop, @grapplingacademy. What did I do wrong, what do I do next time. Thanks again for another great tutorial!
Awesome! Happy to help your journey 🙏🥋TD
Thank you a lot, i am a rookie, you help me a l
It, 🙌
A lot*
Too good asusual
Pretty sure none of my team mates have discovered this channel and I don't intend on telling them about it 🤣 best online instructor by a mile
Thank you ! Oss!
5:49 professor da fuqq xD. Anyway great vid😀
What's to keep your opponent from basing out with the arm that isn't being pinched when you try to roll him?
Is it possible to buy any of your rashgaurds?
I always get smashed and stuck in Side Mount. I have had good success getting out of mount against the lower belts. Side mount is a hell for me
I noticed at 7:26 that your hands stay on the face throughout the roll and at 7:39, your student instead locks your arm with his arm. Any differences? Is one of them better than the other?
Thanks for your videos, one of my go-to channels for learning!
Nice! We'll be in Melbourne this coming April and I'll be looking for a BJJ school to train at that allows drop ins with a drop fee. Any suggestions?
Ron_RC Absolute MMA with Lachlan Giles and Craig Jones, Australia’s current top 2 competitors
Are you also showing how to get out of a really tight side control
Coach Tom, how can I buy a short sleeve rash guard from your Academy with Team South on it?
We only sell via tee spring in the video link. Check out the awesome t shirts! No rashguards unfortunately as we cannot ship and source them cost effectively to do this globally.
Watching this in the Bathroom as I get ready to go to class haha
Does this work with big people, I wanna know bc I'm 17 and in an adult class in jiu jitsu
Coach Tom I really thank you for this side control vid. I’ve been to three different Academies and was never shown this. You definitely should be instructor of the year. The fundamentals are most important. Everything else builds off of them. Much thanks again! Peace
🙏🥋🤙🏼
*watches this at 1am post bjj class on side control rolls*😭👀👀
7:15 7:36
Stuff the face, I love it ! 💪
Wait, did you design the rashguards to match your tattoo's color, or is it the other way around?
Good question...
I wonder if that 05:35 would work
Are you on Instagram?
@TOMDAVEYBJJ
Alright I'm just gonna be the last one who commented. Coo...
So nobody is going to talk about the thumbnail? Either somebody's been decapitated or they'll one hell of a contortionist.
Excellent. Thank you!
