Lachlan is a second degree BJJ black belt. He is the 2017 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship Bronze Medallist, 2014 Australian Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix Champion, multiple time Pan Pacific and Victorian Jiu Jitsu Champion. He has represented Australia twice at ADCC, the most prestigious submission grappling competition in the world, represented Australia three times at the World Pro Championships and competed at the Eddie Bravo Invitational where he submitted former ADCC Champion Rani Yahya.
In 2014 and 2017 he completed a clean sweep of the black belt division at Australia's most prestigious competition, the Pan Pacific Championships, winning 4 gold medals. In 2016 Lachlan was ranked as the number 12 lightweight BJJ competitor in the world. He is also the 2016 Australian Freestyle Wrestling Champion.
He also works as a physiotherapist and in 2016 completed his PhD.
These details are fantastic. Game changing details - even for the viewers who have been escaping the mount for a long time!
Lachlan has a unique gift for communicating the finesse of BJJ in a clear and understandable way. Everything he shows makes perfect sense and is taught in logical steps for better retention. These videos are much more valuable to beginners than the dozens of "X moves a white belt should know" videos out there.
So far Lachlan has the clearest instructionals out there. This is amazing (imitating Bernardo Faria's voice)
The details are fantastic, I love how he explained the different variations as well.
Time Stamps: Traditional; 4:50 (opponent evenly distributes weight) Alternate; 6:53 (opponent counters making trapped leg heavy)
You are so detailed when you coach bjj it is amazing! When I study via CZcams, then try to apply what I have learned in live rolls, it is very hit or miss. Unless Lachlan taught it.... Success rate is like 90%. Thank you!
I honestly think you do the best instructionals on CZcams. I Missed you seminar last time you visited Ireland, I'll make sure not to miss your next one. Keep up the amazing work !!
Gold
Yes, he is the man
He is actually giving his right arm.. that can be a good arm bar or maybe Kimura, all you have to is know how to escape those 2 locks and ur good to go. Great coaching Btw! i learned a lot here❤
Fantastic tips on mount escape. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Truly excellent instruction. The internet is the best.

Really love the detail about the placement of the free hand on the inner thigh frame.
Love these details.
Thanks for sharing this tecniques, very helpful.
This guy is an amazing instructor.. Well explained video.. Thank you sir.. Oosss
Great details , especially framing
Great instructor!
That's a really good series
Man thank you for explaining this.
Beautiful!
This video is gold
i tend to bridge and buck to get a hip escape and take the top. obviously this wont work against blue and higher so its nice to see different escapes
Awesome. Thank you
Useful. Thank you.
Beautiful ty so much for making this free
Great video
This is great for a beginner trying to survive the mount :)
Fantastic
Great as always Mr. Giles.
Retweet.
Every time i try to get on my side to start pushing their knee, they head to my back. I'll try to concentrate on my elbow blocking their hip.
Question: I see that Lachlan is good at keeping on his side and his framing arm/shoulder off the mat. Several times I find myself getting my shoulders flattened to the mat when I attempt an elbow escape. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to elevate my framing arm/shoulder off the mat without 1) getting flattened easily or 2) exposing my back too much by elevating too much? (the details in this are fantastic!)
I like this guy - this guy is good.
Does this escape have a name too? Thanks!
This man is a genius
Nice
question: so we worked this technique in class with your working of the leg out so the can't hide it etc BUT when we drilled mount only rolling we all slide up to side mount straight away. My professor always said if you do this extra move (he just hooks leg where it is without pushing it out with the knee) then the person on top will know it is coming and move up to side mount and that is what happened. Are we doing something wrong? is there a way to avoid their transition to side mount? Thanks heaps for the video, any advice you can offer would be awesome
For the arm where the hand is on the left hip, the elbow has to be flaired up a little so its in front of the right hipbone. This way it should be really hard for them to move up to side mount.
@@jurianbijman2972 thank you yes, I had a closer look at what was happening and problem solved and found that as well. Oss
Moving from mount to side mount is moving from a superior position to an inferior position. You should not be concerned if your opponent opts to worsen their positional advantage. If all it takes for them to do that is a weak threat such as trying to hook the leg without any control over it, then all the better
@@Allanrpsx thank you
Best intsruction on youtube
best scape video ever
Is it better to frame than shoot for the underhook on the escape?
That should be a matter pf preference. A lot of guys like that knee shield in half guard. Personally I've been working the old school sweep so i feel comfortable diving for the underhook and shoving my arm under the legs.
🔥🔥🔥
Excellent Deets. 👏
What's about opponents punch
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu detail you wrap around them with the other hand and stay close
But my opponent just locks me so tight and i cant move at all
Let’s see, take notes, write a book , take a nap and basically an escape?
😂
The only problem when your opponent is reacting with elbows and punching your face.
Which the detail to stop that is to hug the opponent with your other arm
Elbow escape!!Gracie combatives :-p
What if your opponent has a low build and heavier than you by about 10kgs..and is sitting on you completely (full body weight on you) at mid to high mount position..
I've just recently been in that situation and I was unable to move my hips at all.. Nevermind that he is continuously adjusting and controlling my wrists and shoulders that I can't use my hands at all..
Also he wasn't trying to submit me at all.. He just wanted to prove that I'm helpless against him if he sits on me.. Lol.. And truth be told, after trying for a while I tapped out from having trouble just breathing with all that weight on me
Late but if they are completely sitting on you, you should be able to bridge and knock them off balance.
@@MrSaurusknees up , heels digging into floor, use one knee to push partners back driving him forward , bridging, holding the high bridge, trap the partners arm as he should have no choice but to base, UPA.
In the first "frame" the guy on top merely needs to pop the elbow up and the tricep is JUST as exposed and the guy on the bottom is in MORE trouble than if he hadn't gifted the arm bar to his opponent because his arm is now in a weaker position and he is giving his opponent the second gift of bringing his shoulder closer to the guy on top, speeding the arm bar and making defense nearly impossible!
Nice mix of men and women there
The guy on top is not punching you in the face I guess.
Observant
? What if you are mounted in real hand to hand combat & your taking damage to face/ head/ neck ?
By the way, great video.
Poop your pants, the smell will make the attacker go away.
This is a sport JJ mount escape. You'd need to learn a self defense method.
Damian Vann don’t get mounted 💯
Interesting- solid framing advice for Jitsu sport but totally exposes you to unguarded pummeling, no?
Better than Galvaos stupid strong man move that relies on upper body strength
Algorithm
Arm trap and roll less struggling
But its way hard as hell to trap the arm without exposing something else
yohance dawson arm trap and roll is a very low percentage move against an experienced opponent or someone bigger than you 💯
All these techniques its enifficace in street fight
