    Lachlan has a unique gift for communicating the finesse of BJJ in a clear and understandable way. Everything he shows makes perfect sense and is taught in logical steps for better retention. These videos are much more valuable to beginners than the dozens of "X moves a white belt should know" videos out there.

    Question: I see that Lachlan is good at keeping on his side and his framing arm/shoulder off the mat. Several times I find myself getting my shoulders flattened to the mat when I attempt an elbow escape. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to elevate my framing arm/shoulder off the mat without 1) getting flattened easily or 2) exposing my back too much by elevating too much? (the details in this are fantastic!)

    question: so we worked this technique in class with your working of the leg out so the can't hide it etc BUT when we drilled mount only rolling we all slide up to side mount straight away. My professor always said if you do this extra move (he just hooks leg where it is without pushing it out with the knee) then the person on top will know it is coming and move up to side mount and that is what happened. Are we doing something wrong? is there a way to avoid their transition to side mount? Thanks heaps for the video, any advice you can offer would be awesome

    • @jurianbijman2972
      @jurianbijman2972 Před 4 lety +2

      For the arm where the hand is on the left hip, the elbow has to be flaired up a little so its in front of the right hipbone. This way it should be really hard for them to move up to side mount.

    • @Allanrpsx
      @Allanrpsx Před 4 lety +2

      Moving from mount to side mount is moving from a superior position to an inferior position. You should not be concerned if your opponent opts to worsen their positional advantage. If all it takes for them to do that is a weak threat such as trying to hook the leg without any control over it, then all the better

    • @psyience3213
      @psyience3213 Před 5 lety

      That should be a matter pf preference. A lot of guys like that knee shield in half guard. Personally I've been working the old school sweep so i feel comfortable diving for the underhook and shoving my arm under the legs.

    In the first "frame" the guy on top merely needs to pop the elbow up and the tricep is JUST as exposed and the guy on the bottom is in MORE trouble than if he hadn't gifted the arm bar to his opponent because his arm is now in a weaker position and he is giving his opponent the second gift of bringing his shoulder closer to the guy on top, speeding the arm bar and making defense nearly impossible!
