This is a technical demonstration of an escape from side control at Derby City MMA in Louisville, KY. This is great side control escape against an opponent who is staying very tight and not allowing space for many of the traditional escapes.

Did this TODAY! Worked extremely well, like easier than most moves I try to replicate. Had a harder time 2nd attempt with heavier guy, creating distance the higher the opponent was on my chest was more challenging but rode it out and got it!!!! I’m a white belt , this move is legit AF

However, I did this technique against a blue belt in class today; got him over and went to the side control. I'm not sure he let me do it or got him off guard. Either let me or not, I still got him over, lol. I still got a lot of work to execute this escape side control technique.

I have sub the channel and been watching you along with many other like Ramsey Dewey, The Gracies, and Kama for like a week or two now. Always wanted to learn BJJ since I was little about 10 or so but never had the money or when I did life got in the way like marriage and my children and other things. After watching all you guys and hearing the inspirational speeches and coaching I got my wife and kids to practice some Gracie university online with me and now everyone is on board and focused. I will begin my white belt training at a school near me next week. Enough is enough of letting my dreams slowly pass me bye. I know this isn’t one of those videos but I just wanted to say thanks chewy for helping me remember I’m not to old at 29 and that we have to do what needs to be done before we regret never doing it. For all the smaller guys who cant just pull a larger opponent over the top of themselves, try framing down then using a hitchhiking movement with your legs, utilizing the push back that your opponent gives and hit this from more of a north/south position... less muscle used, more technique/timing

one month white belt and oyur getting brown belts in side control? WTF? Are they giving you side control and their back as mercy which I do to my opponents? If not they should be demoted.. LOL. For Peruvian neck tie just remember to get your leg over their head first.. and be fast doing it... if not they will pop their head up and put you on your back. I would maybe try a clock choke.. they are easier and less risky sometimes. For the back... I suggest bow and arrow choke. Its easy and high percentage. Osss.

yeah I used to call out higher belts when I was a blue belt. Some actually refused... I am a muscular guy and I guess that they felt scared to be embarrassed to be tapped out by a lower belt. Some browns even told me that I am too big for them and they refused to roll with me. I was 6ft 204lbs.. not too big. Now I moved gyms and they got their black and I am purple... but I am pretty sure I can still tap them out. LOL

Nice! As a beginner I would've used shrimp and shoot or block and shot varieties of the shrimp escape from side control.
Doing a side control reversal, which I suppose this is, leads to all kinds of fun stuff. You could go for a scarf-hold and follow it with a Kimura or an armlock. Maybe even go to full mount and do some things from there. Endless possibilities and fun right there.
