    I can't question her ability to win a competition against the best in her division. She is great. But, does winning competitions now rate you a new belt, especially a black belt where you should have a vast wealth of knowledge of the art as well as the ability to execute it with great skill? This changes what the path and requirements are for all schools and professors and I don't know if that is best for the Art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am not diminishing her skills to win a competition, just the path by which she was given a black belt by per Professor. Additionally, I thought that IBJJF had rules on how long (years) you should be training in each belt and going from blue to black in 12 months goes against those rules.

    No matter how skilled you are. It’s impossible to have the full understanding of every position/escape/submission in under 1 year. NO one on planet earth should be promoted from blue to black belt in 1 year. This is extremely disrespectful to bjj. I bet 90% of male purple belts would smoke her.

    • @Hekilikaua
      @Hekilikaua Před 21 dnem +2

      You can say that about a lot of female black belts. That doesn't make them illegitimate. We get it. You disagree. Winning a world title at any rank is impressive, but to win three in a year is phenomenal. Give the girl the credit she's due.

    • @28mouse85

      @@Hekilikaua she is world class that part is undeniable. But the technical ability is only 1 part of being a black belt. No one with so little experience would have the knowledge to be a black belt. Not to mention the IBJJF rules state, you MUST spend atleast 12 months at brown belt before being promoted to black belt.

    • @antoniodias1925
      @antoniodias1925 Před 21 dnem +2

      She has been training for 10 years, if I'm not wrong, but with a different belt system when she was a child. When she turned blue, she wasn't actually a blue belt but got it because she started the adult belt system. This is from what I read."

    • @Hekilikaua
      @Hekilikaua Před 21 dnem

      @@28mouse85 the IBJJF rules changed in 2022, allowing for anyone who wins a World Championship to be promoted in the podium, regardless of time at rank. That's exactly how she's gone from blue to black in a year. She won worlds, no gi worlds, and worlds again, and each resulted in an on-the-spot promotion.
      And besides, let's at least give some credit to her professor, who knows her ability and character much better than we do. We always tell lower ranked students to trust the process, and to trust their professor, as they'll receive their next rank when they're ready. That statement continues to be true.

    • @TSM260
      @TSM260 Před 21 dnem +3

      There's always those people that say " it takes 10 years to get a bjj black belt" is that a hard rule? and who came up with it? It takes 7 years to be a doctor, 10-11 years to be a surgeon, an these people are taking a person's life in their hands. Is jiu jitsu really on that level?
      Maybe some people are just better teachers than others and can get someone to that competitive black belt level faster. Competing is a different skill set than mastering the art in its entirety. To be a very good competitor you just have to be really good at a few techniques and be able to funnel people there, you don't have to know ALL the techniques to be very effective. Prime example Bernardo,who himself said outside of his A game, he didnt know tons of techniques, but despite that he won World championships, should he not be a black belt?
      And Bruno Bastos is a crazy good instructor, proofs in the results.
