@@bigpenny8223 I think they mean the cover sounds like Franks style, because the guitar+techno sounds like something frank would do (I personally thing the beat works too)
Actually the original was the emo version of common people, because of the heavy issue of the North South divide in England at the time, these themes of the Southerners being "Better" was a big influence at the time, for Northen music anyway. So actually the original of this song is an emotional song about the difference between the two and how Southeners saw the Northeners as "Common people" and how some southeners "wanted to be common" and how the Northeners then retaliated to this with songs like this.
at first I was thinking "what?? there's a song by my FAVORITE band that I haven't heard???" but then I read the description and realized that it's just a cover. I still like it though.
my uni is full of rich people, sometimes it gets pretty hard not to get annoyed with some of them. Nothing beats the original, but this is a rad cover 👌🏼
You will never understand how it feels to live your life with no meaning or control and with nowhere else to go. You are amazed that they exist and they burn so bright, while you can only wonder 'why?'! I always loved this song and I loved it a bit more when MCR covered it. :3
People who have not heard the original song (by the 80s band, Pulp) will appreciate this much more because of Jarvis Cocker's voice, which can basically change key without sounding bad. Try singing it! It is far from easy! WELL DONE, GERARD. :)
Glad to read from someone who appreciates his voice, tired of people saying that Jarvis' not a good singer, for instance in common people he shows some tasty velvety lows that goes unappreciated most of the times.
the first time i heard this song from pulp, i thought that it would be awesome that MCR do a cover of the song. three days later i found this. its just awesome.
+Alex Villanueva First time I heard the original I thought no band can do a good cover of this. I was wrong. Lucy Ward did a great cover. This is a bit shit.
+Daniel Baker I already searched and listened to the cover of lucy ward, and i actually think its more "shit" than rhis one. i like this one so much more than lucy ward's cover.
Alex Villanueva My problem with this is that they`re trying to do a straight cover of Common People, which tbh is impossible to do well as no one can match the charisma and swagger of Jarvis. Lucy Ward made the song her own, making it a completely different song, meaning she isn`t completely shadowed by a comparison to Jarvis.
+Daniel Baker well, actually they aren't trying to do a straight cover from common people, it actually sounds diferent because they wanted to do it diferent, they tried to do it a more "heavy"rock version of the song, not exactly the song itself. and gerard does put his own signature in the cover with his voice and singing some parts of the song in his style, so i think they also made the song their own, just in a different way than lucy ward. and i really didn't like how did lucy ward changed the song and "made it her own", i didn't liked the rhythm or the way she sang it and also i didn't liked at all the few enphasis she put in the guitar, i would've liked that she did more enphasis in the sound of the acoustic guitar, i think it would be beautiful with that.
They are doing a straight cover without the violin. I don`t care if it`s `heavy` rock, cause it ain`t. It`s faux-rock/pop that sounds like the original with no violin and worse musicians and arrangements. The American accent is shocking compared to Jarvis, and when you play a classic song like Common People in such a similar way to the classic version you at least have to have good vocals. Lucy playing it live is one of the best covers I`ve ever heard, particularly with her band. I also like how you listened to the song three says before seeing a shitty cover and immediately thought of MCR. Whenever I hear the classic, iconic intro chime through my record player I can only think that no one is ever able to be as good as Pulp. They are iconic, one of the greatest Brit-pop bands and Jarvis probably one of the greatest front men in history.
loli_ cvnt I have never met a person like this. Hm.. maybe I'm this person. but I got diagnosed with bpd and depression. Are you sure these people are lying? You know, often you don't see that someone is depressed. My boyfriend has depression and he looks like a ordinary happy young man. But then he got this arm full of scars and tried to kill himself the first time when he was 8 (!) and had a time when he didn't eat for days and even drank very little so he hasn't to get up and go to the bathroom. sorry for my bad English.
With the people I was talking about it's very obvious they're making it up. They aren't diagnosed, they don't go to therapy (and never even tried to get any, even if offered and even if they said they needed help or whatever), they brag about it and it always happens when they don't get the attention they want or when someone else is "in the spotlight". Of course people can hide, for example depression, but you don't see them bragging about their illness. Their illness also doesn't change to another one every few days or suddenly disappears. I definitely wasn't talking about anyone who is actually diagnosed with something. I was talking about ~13 year olds bragging about how sad they are to their friends or on tumblr. Because a lot of times, they're romanticizing stuff like this and think it's cool to have something like depression, etc. Sorry for the long answer, but I don't know how to explain it otherwise, don't wanna com across the wrong way. Your english is fine btw
loli_ cvnt I get what you mean. I just wanted to make clear that it's not that easy to tell if someone is making it up, I think. I'm making jokes about my depression too, like, telling a sad person that I have depression and am supposed to be sad, not them, to comfort them.
being from sheffield, i hear loads of pulp songs but to hear one of my favourite bands cover a song that i absolutely love in shitty quality gives me so much serotonin i might actually cry
MCR's great, and Pulp's Common People is really awesome. I like the original better though, the presentation/execution of the lyrics are just better. It's like a story when you listen to Pulp, but MCR's just doing their usual teenage angst thing.
