So, I decided to take a look at all the separate channels of some chiptune music at once. Thought it might look cool, since those waveforms are usually so pretty. I quickly put together a script to create this and other videos.
Here's the soundtrack from the demo "Drunk Chessboard" composed by X-Ray. You can see the demo here: • Atari XL/XE - Drunk Ch...
This video has a lame naive timbre-capture algorithm: it just finds the first zero-crossing and locks it to the left side of the screen. This way you see waveforms aligned to eachother - at least most of the time. A decent algorithm is trickier than I thought. Until then, have another one. CZcams needs more chiptune anyway.

This is the kind of the song where that special crunchiness and deep bass of the POKEY absolutely explodes into your ears. This wouldn't sound as good on a SID or AY, it just simply couldn't.

This sounds like an epic anthem of the final stage in a Metroidvania style game. I dunno who this X-Ray dude is, but if I was making a retro or neo-retro style action adventure platformer game I'd grab him up in a second.

Not a surprise, as I'm usually more fond of those. But there are a few "upbeat" tunes I've posted as well: "Sweet", "Bells", "Jam Session", "Irish Wood", "Let it Roll", "Saddam's Secret Moonbase", "Hivmania - Ingame Music".
They're not "happy" either, I guess. The happy Atari tunes tend to be really simple and a bit boring and childish, but maybe that's just me.

Yes, the ones with a more sad tone seem to be the most emotional, which I guess makes them more memorable. It might be possibly to do with the whole Radek Sterba story... RIP..

I find the music you post usually seem to have a sad tone. It's awesome music, but it makes me feel a little depressed.
    Weird...
