  • ** PLEASE, WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY FOR PROPER AUDIO! **
    So, I decided to take a look at all the separate channels of some chiptune music at once. Thought it might look cool, since those waveforms are usually so pretty. I quickly put together a script to create this and other videos. I had this one lying around for a while, so I decided to upload it too.
    I'm still trying to figure some extra things to do with this, like capturing the timbre and showing it in place, instead of just passing the waveform by. It's trickier than I thought. Until then, have another one. CZcams needs more chiptune anyway.

    @theprophetstryder It's mostly Atari, from this chiptune visualization series I have here. I absolutely love the sound of the POKEY chip, and I see little appreciation for Atari music on CZcams and everywhere else (C64 gets all the love). So I decided to post some of the gems. :)

    Oh, the memories. How I was amazed by the quality of this computer music. Even to other Atari games. My friend's ZX Spectum be-beeps even more laughable :-D.

    despite the POKEY being inferior to the SID, the punchy sound of the POKEY can't be beaten on some tunes, like this!

      @@60b1in You're both wrong, TIA is superior. Analog, joystick, video, AND sound in one unit with more colors on screen than even the NES could handle!

    The sped up version (NTSC) sounds like a perfect boss battle theme.
    While the regular version(PAL) sounds like an awesome space shooter BGM.
    Imo, the NTSC sounds better to me, it is very upbeat and matches the nature of a boss battle but at some point the instrument glitched.
    While the PAL version is slow, matches the Space nature of Space shooting games. While it is not as good as NTSC version, it sounds really clean compared to NTSC, there's no instrument glitch or anything else.

    There's not a "correct" speed, it depends of the PAL or NTSC version. I grew up listening the faster NTSC version and this tempo is strange to me. I MUST stress that I absolutely love the game and its music, since the 80s till this day. The waveforms look great, good job.

  • @1ucasvb
    @1ucasvb  Před 14 lety +8

    @theprophetstryder C64 sounds "dirty" most time to me. The POKEY and the YM series (I love the 2612) always sounded cleaner and deeper to me (if that makes any sense). I think the sound is much superior. Too bad it's so under appreciated.
    Look up the Atari SAP Music Archive on Google. It has TONS of great music. Also, search for Grayscale Project, they have one of the BEST stuff for the Atari out there.

    1.25 for the correct speed (at least for us in NTSC territories)

    • @1ucasvb
      @1ucasvb  Před 4 lety +3

      Nah, that's the wrong speed. NTSC was playing the European PAL (50 Hz) game at NTSC (60 Hz) rates. So to get that familiar (but absolutely wrong) speed you'd need 60/50 = 1.2x.
      This is how the song was composed and meant to be heard.

      @1ucasvb  Před 9 lety +12

      No it doesn't. It clearly sounds wrong to me when it's sped up, as the tempo doesn't fit the initial melody at all.
