American Dad Tries Hanoi’s Most Famous Dish

- In this food travel vlog, my dad, Trang, and I try arguably Hanoi’s most famous dish: Bún Chả Hà Nội. We eat this dish at a very famous restaurant in the Hoan Kiem District of Ha Noi.
The exact name and location of the restaurant are:
Bún Chả Hàng Quạt
74 P. Hàng Quạt, Hàng Gai, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
The restaurant is only open from 10am-2pm each day. Limited opening times at a restaurant are usually an indication that the food is really good.
The dish consisted of barbecued pieces of pork sausage, pork belly, vermicelli rice noodles, fish sauce, and pickled papaya. We also enjoyed the dish with a side order of “nem” which is known as chả giò in the South of Vietnam. Cha gio are deep fried spring rolls.
We ate these delicious, traditional Vietnamese foods and gave you a signature Dank Rank Food Review.
For any foodies in the Hanoi area looking to try one of Northern Vietnam’s quintessential dishes, definitely give this Vietnamese restaurant a try!

Man I like your dad’s opinions. It’s really genuine as an American. He’s awesome to be able to adapt to his environment 🎉
yeah surprisingly adaptable I was really proud of how open he was
Dads a champ man.
no doubt
Yep, the charring makes that pork more delish, for sure. Looks like a great meal and love that woman at the end selling the young green rice.
oh yeah Trang wanted to get some of that
Honestly bud, I subscribed because of your dad's ^^, big fan
Your dad is very fit and eats well. What a healthy man.
I have great memories of eating bun cha on a little corner right by Hoan Khiem lake, back in 1996❤
oh wow awesome...I wish I could've seen Vietnam in 1996...though I would've only been 6 years old so I may not be able to appreciate it as much
@BigTimeBentley 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣most Western adults had trouble coming to terms with it, but I instantly fell in love.
I'd love some bun cha right now.
Thank you for sharing. a Very good video👍🙏🫶🌹🍀 I hope you enjoy your trip ❤ good luck🍀
thank you!
I love this dish - hard to find in my city. My fave place to have it in my city here in Canada is at a restaurant with a chef from Hanoi. One thing I've noticed from all food vlogs from Vietnam is that the side veggie portions are fresher, more generous, and have more variety. In North America the veggies are almost more of a garnish than a component.
very interesting...is that a big city in Canada?
@@BigTimeBentley I live in Toronto, Canada where we have a large Vietnamese population. Toronto and Montreal have large Vietnamese populations. I read a book from an American food writer who said Viet cuisine can be a hit or miss in the States, but tends to be good in Canada. I've gotten all my restaurant recommendations from Vietnamese. When I get my nails done its always by Vietnamese ladies. They tell me how much they love K dramas and Korean food and I tell them how much I love Vietnamese food.
Trang cấm đầu cam co^? ăn. 😂 😂
Tyler, while you are still there see if you can find ruou táo mèo, roughly translated as cat apple wine 😂. But I think it may be plum wine. It’s kinda sweet, won’t get you drunk if you are worried about staying sober. Try it! 🙏
haha cheers good suggestion
U should try phở chiên phồng n phở cuốn at phở cuốn hưng bền. Or chả cá lã vọng at vua chả cá. Very yummy
cheers will try to find those
Mình cũng rất thích bún chả 😋
Wow ! all those good Bun Cha and Nem Ran ( Cha Gio ) for only 180 K VND . Very cheap . You should try Banh Tom and Bun Oc at the West Lake as well .
nice good suggestions
Ngon quá❤
if you're still in Hanoi you should go to Lẩu Ốc Bà Lương for their snail soup
Looks good. Glad ur dad enjoyed it. Have u ever rated anything over 9?
Yeah I have
I hope you guys trying out pho ha noi.
we did
The girlfriend is so bad in the way she eats to interacting with her boyfriend and his father
Great vid guys the food looks good . I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions please. My wife and I are coming out to Vietnam next November or December which month would you say is the best. This is probably a silly question but does all these stalls have some kind of washroom or is there public washrooms? I know that probably sounds silly but with all the walking around you guys do do you have to go back to your hotel room to use the washroom 😊
You can find toilets at most restaurants and places that sell food and drink...if you want to go to Hanoi, November is the best...December to March would be best for Saigon
@@BigTimeBentley Thanks for getting back, we are going for 3 weeks and making Da Nang are home base so we can go south and North plus’s da nang is nice also looking forward to it. My wife is from the north was born in long xuyen
You probably have to pay separately due to there being three separate vendors working together. That is not uncommon here in Thailand.
interesting
In Hanoi in some restaurants you have to pay the drinks and the food separately , because they don't belong to the same owner .
interesting
Gái gì nhìn mặt không có mua xuân😂
There is a fine balance for the fish sauce...many dishes if you overdoing it it's no longer yummy 😂
very true
👍💛
cheers
kiếm được quả bạn gái chất thật, chỉ biết ăn 🤣
Chi biet mot minh an khong biet le phep. What does he sees in her?
*_Chào gia đình Big Time Bentley_* !
chao
😎👍
cheers bro
You have to learn Saigon and Hanoi is different..take time to know what is attitude and Vietnamese always nice but depent where and who you know just like Ameria. Enjoy VN food. CA.USA
cheers
I thought that bun cha was a type of pork burger grilled on the barbecue. Here it looks like pieces of pork swimming in some soup.
haha true it does look like a little burger
Bun cha consist of pork patty and sliced of pork belly marinated with spices 😊
Paying when the food is served prevents "eat and run" customers lol!
yeah true but it's a relatively rare thing to see here...I guess theyre just so busy that they may not notice eat and runners
How old is your father. Looks so young
58
Sao cô gái không chỉ cho ông bố cách ăn vậy!
Vì chảnh choẹ…tội nghiệp ông bố…
Chỉ lo ăn không chỉ cho bạn trai và ông bố
Can’t stand the girlfriend. She’s so cringe.
Halo. Morning
morning
sup, thanks for the vid. maybe, try to find a vietnam war era zippo lighter.
sure...glad you liked it
I agree with your gf on why they charge as they go along, but from a Westerner perspective, that's just not customer oriented. They should just write it down on a piece of paper and leave the paper on the table (although I guess it can get lost or whatever).
Spill drink on it, oops!!
yeah it's a bit of a hassle
Are you eating Bun Cha's Obama?
nope I don't think so
I think your girlfriend meant rice leaf, not trunk.
ah ok
Dad is military huh
nah he's just a beast
@@BigTimeBentley did you get him some banh cuon yet? With cha lua, mint. cucumber, fried shallots. All the fixings and then get a nice cold coconut after and drink that baby! Aw man i miss VN
like
thanks
Don’t eat here. I ate there back in November 2022 and I still haven’t gotten over it and I crave it every day
haha, warning label: do not eat unless you're prepared to crave this food for years
Ok👍👍👍❤️
Not finish your foods why pay before your meal ? Do not come back that place.
that's just how they do it there but yeah it's different
The girlfriend should be more helpful in explaining what the dish is composed of and demonstrating to the first timers how to eat it. In every video, she just dive in first and leave the guests to their own devices.
Con người cô này thiếu văn hóa. VN mà, thấy thức ăn là nhào vô ăn không cần giải thích chơ ai cả. Chắc gia đình thiếu dậy cô. Too bad.
Just curious how people feel about you filming them without their permission
Wow. Your girlfriend is so mellow. That's a keeper!
She’s not mellow. She’s rude and has no manner. Those big lips and thick glasses don’t do her justice.
Tyler, you could definitely do better. Your girlfriend is rude and having attitude, not only in this video, but also in other clips. I usually stop watching your clip when she appears in there and I bet many other viewers have the same feeling. Hope you find a better match.
The girl has no manners & no social skills. I like the videos but sorry I can't stand her.
Your girlfriend seems awkward and rude. As a Vietnamese, she should have manners by explaining to his dad about the food and show him the correct way to eat bun cha. She just went ahead and starts eating and when Tyler asked her she seems irritated. Not a girlfriend material.
