- In this food travel vlog, my dad and I eat his first Vietnamese meal on his 2023 trip to Vietnam. We eat some banh xeo (bánh xèo) at the same place Anthony Bourdain tried when he had this dish in Saigon.

For hygienic and good manner reasons you should dip your Banh Xeo in your individual small bowl and never in the big bowl of sauce which is for the whole group to share .
Speaking of hygiene, Vietnamese is notoriously known for unhygienic.
Hang on, it is just Tyler and his dad! I agree with you though, if there was a group or a family dinner, but not in this case. I assume the bowl they are sharing won't be re-used by other clients.

@@ChrissieSMA lot of stuff is communal eating for Vietnamese people, but for banh xeo, you do dip in your own fish sauce bowl, that's why they set out 2 extra bowls for them to use.

They supplied extra bowl so you split the sauce into two so u can each have a bowl to dip in and you can use to have your crumbs drop inside; but first time I don’t blame you lol
I will try to practice to look like your Dad.
Order one for your dad man. Fold the bánh xèo in half then you cut that in pieces like piza slices or smaller then wrap in lettuce yummy. Thèm quá đi!

When eating banh xeo, people roll it with vegetables. But no one wraps it like that? Đầu tiên ngắt một vài lá cải chắp lại cho đủ rộng cầm trên tay, sau đó gắp bánh xèo bỏ vào lá cải cuốn theo chiều ngang thành cuốn như ăn bánh tráng cuốn. Chúc hai cha con ngon miệng!

I still dont know how to properly wrap Banh Xeo it's so sad, best shot i have is asking my mom and dad to do it for me lol. God damn i love that crispy flaky banh xeo batter tho, and then when you dip it in the fish sauce too just send it over the top, love it!

Love goi cuon, it's hard to find a bad one in VN. Can't get down with banh xeo though, maybe I just haven't had a good one yet
Try to find a Central-style banh xeo seller and see if you like it better. Their banh xeo are smaller, they oft times wrap all the veggies and banh xeo in rice paper (makes it easier to eat), and their dips are way different. Banh xeo, as with most Vietnamese foods that are wrapped, should utilize lots of fresh herbs to bring out all the different aromas and textures.

The French for bill is l'addition, which literally translates as the addition. But you should always add before or after please, which in French is s'il vous plaît (literal translation if it pleases you). When asking anything from anybody, you should always say it. Same of course as in the US or the UK.
