I have been a practicing provider for seven years, caring for adult and children of all ages. My background is in hospital-based critical care medicine, however, I have a passion for serving families in our community.
I became a nurse practitioner because I know firsthand what it's like to care for a chronically and medically fragile child. I wanted to be able to provide that same level of support and comfort as well as be an advocate for my patients. I don't know what we would've done if we hadn't had that support in our life throughout his journey.
When I'm seeing a patient for the first time, especially one that has chronic and complex medical needs, the first thing I want to do is to be able to establish a rapport with my patient and their families. I want them to be able to trust me and trust that I'm doing everything I can to advocate for them, and I'm treating them as if they were my own family member. It is very important that they know that when they walk out of there, that I've listened, I've heard them, and that they understand exactly what's going to happen next in order for them to feel comfortable and feel like they can move forward.
I love to sing. We love to spend time with our kids, even though they don't really like to spend time with us. Honestly, medicine and just hanging out with my friends and family and just taking it easy. I like to swim. We like to go to the lake, but just normal everyday stuff. Who's got time for anything else?
I grew up singing in church. I was part of our family choir from the time I could walk. I've always been part of a choir and it's just something I do with my family. My sister's a singer. My father's a singer. That's what we do in our pastime. We like to sing wherever we go. We're his little stage monkeys. That's what we said. He could get us to sing on cue anywhere.
