Anthony Joshua: Three gym-loving lads try to match AJ's workout | BBC Sport - Sport
Comparatively speaking, they did very well. These 3 lads probably have a full-time job, and to match AJ's weight (again comparatively) is commendable. On a side note, I think people who work full time shouldn't compare themselves to athletes; it's the athlete's job to be in tip-top shape. You cannot, and should not, compare yourself to a boxer, footballer, rugby player etc; it's ttheir job to be as fit as possible, and they have access to the best nutrition, recovery methods, equipment. To come anywhere close to their stats is, as I said, hugely commendable.
Well it depends what you specialise in. Those athletes are all very sports specific. A powerlifter would rinse AJ, a decent higher end club runner would rinse 99% of premier league footballers etc. And that's to be expected. There's only so much you can recover from, and pro athletes spend most of their time training their sport's specific skills. These lads lb for lb actually beat AJ in a fair few lifts. Plus theirs a bit of technical skill in a lot of those drills.
They are weak mate .
Pretty accurate. Athletes like Sonny Bill William, spend four hours of the day on working out. Slow, low-intensity workouts.
not to mention the best performance enhancing drugs on the market
Very very well said. Society puts a lot of pressure on people and makes them feel bad about not looking or being a certain way. What you just did is put things into perspective. Give me money to work out and I'll fucking be like AJ too, let's see AJ be himself with a full time job on the side, the fucker would flake.
Yea but can they match Ruiz plate for plate at dinner?
-
Didn't think so xD
Not even close lol
The thumbnail is moving mad 😂😂
Omg that's so weird, it's almost like being a professional athlete makes you better at this kind of stuff than three random lads who go to the gym after work 5 times a week. Bizarre.
Luca J stop being jealous you fucking loser
Cool story bro....
Did you watch the video? They all did really well
Huh??
because working out is not only daily routine when you're a professional athlete, it becomes PART OF YOUR JOB
Really well made video props to the editor
go AJ be positive!
these guys did really well
Dan had some straight up beautiful squat form
AJ is such a beast
This is why an is a beast
HARD WORK IS WHAT!!!!!
Easy Work
Not as nice as a sandwich?
Shut your focking mouth
now point to the easy work then
0:44 lets go AJ😂😂
cringe
Being strong is one thing , being a fighter is something else
Great video. He does more than this though. #UK #London
They didn't do any cardiovascular exercise what is AJ's biggest weakness.
Tom Bo Ros
Did you not see the rope?
And jogging is useless for boxing or any high intensity sport.
Hiit all the way
@@bob-oi9hz what are you talking about, a high aerobic engine is required for any high intensity sport. Do some research.
Tom Bo Ros AJ don’t touch the weights either like dumbbells etc if I remember correctly him saying in one of his interviews that he rarely used weights for his arms but he does squats focusing on his legs.
@@bob-oi9hz Mike Tyson did run every morning 4.6 kilometres
@@thegtc8928 Yes, but you don't need to achieve that through jogging. Weight training can be used to build the aerobic system, and it is less detrimental to fast-twitch fibers/power than going on jogs.
Somebody needs to test that guy
Good vid training is a lifestyle change you become 50 70% stronger last longer in every possible way and all of that benefit doesn't come free!
Thanks for using metrics
Mentals are strong
Fair play, the loads did good
And here I’m was super proud of my 45Kg deadlift and they’re doing 200Kg.
Chances are they didn't start anywhere near 200. I'd imagine they've been going for a really long time.
@@chriswinnard7739 Nah it was all their first time lifting.
@@Sealed_Chamber aight reading it back it was a stupid comment so fairs.
@@Sealed_Chamber why would they have perfect form on one of the hardest technical lifts if it's their first tine
People don’t understand how tiering battle ropes really are
2:34 SAID NO ONE EVERRRRRR
I wanna know how much the guy squatting 140kg weighed.
what the term for BBC sport?
Here those guys are called gym bunnies
They weren't doing the battle ropes fast enough
Dan didnt squat 140kg he actually did 130 you can see there are two 20 kg plate and one 15 kg plate on each side which adds up to 130
Anthony is a big dude
i have never seen him do back squats. maybe he does but the videos we get to see on youtube and instagram only show trap bar deadlifts/squats.
in the beginning they dont even show a little clip of him squatting but before every exercise they show clips of AJ doing that exercise. bullshit he doesnt even squat.
What’s the song at 1:20
I can comfortably bench the bar, which is about 20, add 5 weights to each side and I become a little shaky
irGuilty '5 weights' what the fuck does that mean?
"Yo I get the bar, stack on like five 2.5kg plates on each side and just do the world weirdest looking bench press"
Stack five 1 1/4 kg weights is it? 😂😂😂
You know a plate is refered as 20kg as a standard. Therefore you claim to be benching 220kg with little struggle. Fuck off mate.
The Lord I think he meant a 5kg plate on either side
The Lord, first learn to read before saying ''Fuck off'', kanker idiot!
Will doneAJ on your win last night in Cardiff
Cool
Where was the deadlifts?
all was good, but the neck exorcise using head stands will make the spine fuse together, best to use bands or plates and and do reps laying on bench or floor.
"3 guys who might not even do cardio do what we thought they couldn't do in one try. Also headstands for whatever fucking reason."
That one guy was deadlifting what AJ was in that clip too, without the raised bars. This video didn't really prove anything. They didn't do anything too hard except completely new movements in the cardio and side plank bangs. Give them a month and two to get used to the workout and they'd blow it out of the fucking water.
Get Jeff cavaliere from AthleneX on this, he would fucking smoke them all, Jeff is literally the epitome of what the human body can reach naturally. Plus he's a 42 year old dude too lol
Hench Crustacean "naturally" lmao
Hench Crustacean lol you sound pretty upset considering I just made a joke about him not being natty. The guy is 40 years old and is way bigger than most 20 year olds. Do you realise how much test drops when you're 40 relative to when you're 18-20? Why WOULDNT a guy who's brand is based on his aesthetics/size take an easy as fuck to get/take drug that works wonders for staying lean and maintaining/building mass. He's not even a pro athlete so there is no drug tests he has to do so there is no reason why someone trying to sell product marketed from his aesthetics wouldn't take low TRT style steroid dosages. And your point about him being light is pretty silly considering from what you wrote about yourself you are educated in physiology- muscle mass isn't just based on height weight and body fat- people have completely different bone structures which can mean they can be light like Jeff and still huge. Oh and no I'm not a fat cunt Im around 5-8% bodyfat as im an endurance athlete.
Hench Crustacean hahahahaha you have deluded yourself too far. Keep telling urself he is natty ahahahaha
Jake Russel - Have you noticed how when I bombarded you with facts and legitimate statements explaining how Jeff falls quite comfortable into the natural zone, with reason and evidence to show this, you reply with 'hahahaha's' and say I'm deluded.
It's quite clear your knowledge is lacking on the subject at hand and you really do not have a clue what you are talking about, especially to somebody who is actually qualified in this subject and holds degrees in sports science.
I gave you nothing but my opinion backed up with facts, that you can quite capably (I think) research yourself. You can check Jeff's FFMI, you can run checks against his wrist measurements vs his height vs his overall body weight vs his body fat percentage vs his LBM then use his race (Caucasian) and his sex (male) to work out if it is genetically possible to achieve what he has, naturally. And guess what... it works out in jeffs favour.
Now for the funny part.
You have no legitimate comeback and you'll either
A: Get super cocky, arrogant and turn into a dickhead spouting smart remarks, name calling me, pulling on my intelligence or some other form of 'shit I've been set straight I actual realise I am now wrong, I'll just be a cunt instead of admitting I was wrong' bullshit.
Or..
B: You'll not reply at all for fear of looking like a cunt because I've made a perfectly clear case supporting Jeff being natural/ realise your wrong and not want to admit you are so say nothing.
Take none of this personal, I do not care for people who can't understand reason.
Hench Crustacean you do realise that was someone else who put the most recent reply not me
The head stand exercise was the easiest one 😂 I use to them with my mates back when I was skinny teenager consuming junk food every day
AJ can stop Parker by the 11th. He's in for a long night but if he's conditioned like this, he will be able to go to the 11th in good shape. I think Parker is going to try and take him out early like the 6th but AJ will move and know when to time his punches and movements accordingly. One of them is going to be marching to each other's tune in every round but I think AJ will rise the victor in the championship rounds.
At first, I thought I read 'three gym-loving ladies'... actually, it sounds right, comparing them with AJ :)))
Aj will just watch and LOL hahahahah weldone guys, I am a woman and I try his workouts, they are mind blowing
I need to get on them
Brocador virou lutador
Cmon, they are like three times smaller than AJ.
is that the hodgetwins logo?
Came here because of thumbnail
Does this workout include swerving wilder?
DUMB REPLY FROM A DUMBASS
I know AJ’s huge but I’m still surprised the dude lifts so heavy for a boxer, I’ve seen mma guys lifting heavy which makes sense for grappling in that sport, but for boxing I’m not sure that’s the best idea. Yes I know he’s an undefeated world champ but still.
No wonder he’s got slow hand speed.
He’s good at running from wilder
he my Taekwondo coach
AJ is the beast
BBC sport, How's about mental health, I want to you show the training method too.
Side to side battle rope work was appalling tbh
They forgot to the “duck Deontay Wilder” part of the workout
I would not be able to do it lol
What' more difficult than the workout ?
That Liverpool accent....
Est a snicker
I lost my breath looking at these guys.
Love AJ but even though heavyweights of back then were smaller, they would still beat heavyweights of todays
Now put them muscles to the test against Deontay Wilder
Beautiful Uk with beautiful diversity
He still gotta fight Wilder
These guys are half the fucking size
Amy Mcphee ye so, they doing 200kg deadlifts, so AJ probs does 400kg??😂
Aj wieghs like 18 st
Well the biggest guy probably weighs 14-15 St and AJ weighs about 18 St so AJ probably deadlifts 260kg or something like that.
If AJ was on steroids, he would have been found out by now because boxers are forced to take drug tests. Just because someone is big doesn't mean they are on roids. Stop being a jealous hater.
They adjusted the weights according to how much they weigh, watch the vid properly ffs
I used to move people's houses as a job years ago and th company would sometimes hire labourers to help out on busy days. A lot of the guys we would get were gym goers and would come in all macho with their big muscles. They would get offended that we tell them to only carry boxes or the small items. But anyone in that industry knows you start all the new guys off with the small shit and as you see how they can handle it then you gradually work them up. If you haven't done that job before then you will find it's not easy in the beginning. Your body needs to adjust and it takes time. But most of the guys that came through did weights and always took offence to the instructions. Especially when the rest of us who were smaller guys were carrying big items.
One guy was so determined to prove himself he didn't listen and decided to carry a Fridge on his own, without any technique or knowledge on how to do it safely. It was too heavy for him and he lost control and broke it.
I did many labouring jobs from my mid to late teens up to my mid 20's so i built a pretty sturdy body because of it. Your body adjusts to the demands of the work load and when you keep doing it, it gets strong.
Body Builders don't have the same kind of strength. The exercises they do are designed to increase muscle mass and are done mainly in a linear plane of motion. That has no proper function in real life movements, some of it does but not all of it.
The guys in this video shouldn't be surprised at the results. Body Builders are strong in the gym and that's it. Anything outside of that is a whole new game.
mate , learning to hold a fridge isn't a whole new game. don't act like it's some superpower
Show us how us it's done big boy.
Uchiha Hikaku how about you tell me , since theres some mystery on how to hold a fridge only known by veterans like you
Well written and I agree.
These guys are in better shape and have more functional strength than a labourer loool be serious. They aren't bodybuilders either. The strength gained from deadlifts and squats have carry-over into sports.
Easy
WildenYT fuck off
SQUATS
BATTLE ROPES
DEADLIFT
SIDE PLANK
HEADSTAND
And not a single full rep was done that day.
“Average gym goers” gets three above average guys
yeah those were definitely more "serious" gym goers, certainly not the "average" bloke you see at the gym
too bad that's not deadlifting. hex bars stimulate a squat because there is no hinging of the hips, like what a deadlift is supposed to do
Daishawn done bits
Try twenty rep squats they would be gassing terribly
What about the boxing work?
That didn't seen too hard for them they should try a mike tyson routine or nigel Benn pushup routines and then see
They are doing a severely toned down version of Anthony Joshua's workout
Anthony joshua can actually lift 270 kg for 5 reps comfortably
and that was way back in 2017
i read that on his website
his a strong guy
@@curtizjamezjackson111 Was referring more to free hand exercises etc
bad idea, fueling all that muscle drains his stamina in the ring but if he loses it at this stage of his life he will feel drained for years...it will catch up to him eventually.
Can't give his opponents in the ring much of a workout, though.
Anyone who thinks that AJ is on steroids is dumb as hell. He isnt even that massive. The only way to know if someone is roiding is to look if he has 3D delts (Shoulders are the biggest indicators)
Side plank pfft grind you shoulders away lol
Wilder is waiting for you baby
Most of these comments are crazy, don’t take shit so serious. This is just for a laugh.. people are missing the point. Yes if they trained for 6 months it would be easier, but it’s all about taking 3 lads out of the normal routine in a gym and trying AJs workout. Watch and in joy.
consensus limit adapt stretch square book discipline mud transaction glance.
AJ can lift and lift, it matters how good you take a punch, when you get to top level boxing. AJ is like an enhanced Frank Bruno, will he be able to take full on right and left hooks, like Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield at there peak. Or is AJ going to be a Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson can dish it out but when they meet someone with Iron will who can punch back, will he survive. Its boxing not Bodybuilding. These current boxers are fortunate they don't fight over 15 rounds like they use to, l think they should still fight over 15 rounds if its for all 4 belts WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.
I cant lift battle ropes haha
Like AJ, but look at these wanna bzzz, lol. Be yourself. Be better. Be a Lennox Lewis at least. You guys treat AJ like he's made history. Not yet. He's off to a great start though.
All the salty men commenting fake news about AJ being on roids -get your arses in the gym and stop hating.
If you chase the chicken long enough you will eventually catch it...
That Daishawn appears to be one of the biggest pricks I’ve seen
Why? Seems like a bit of a joker to me
U cant compare a 165cm guy to reach same potencial as almost 200cm one. Lel
Height dosnt matter
CRAWL height does matter when your taller you weigh more so you should lift more
I am 5'8 and 54kg . i know a guy thats 6'3 and 49kg . it depends on how much muscle you build.
CRAWL 6.3 and 49 kg thats an extreme example. Underweight
DaanV9 yes but common
9684864kg deadlift 375632852 kg......... someone doesnt Know how to count weights
AJ has has mad African Genetics
Aj not running?
Didn't see AJ squat 190kg. Don't see how it would benefit him to lift that much as a boxer. Frankly, I can't think of any boxer that could squat really heavy weight and if there's no evidence, I don't believe it. AJ's squatting, if he does any, would be with a lighter load for lots of reps to develop endurance.
Also, at AJ's weight, 190kg is not heavy for someone who lifts weights. A serious lifter would lift approx 230kg drug free and 300kg-400kg if they hit 'the sauce.'
I know this is old but he squats 270kg 5reps
@roland1655 As I said, believe only what I see...in person
daishawn acting hard but squats with a pad xD
Wilder for the win. Go America
Those guys aren't bad at all. I doubt Anthony can squat 190kg with good depth. How many guys do you know who do the trap bar deadlift and also squat 190kg? The guys that I know who squat 190kg do the real deadlift and don't mess around with bullshit like the trap bar... I always chuckle when the media presents boxers' s&c workouts as some difficult stuff. The people in athletics (track & field, weightlifting, throwing etc.) really are freaks and their workouts are obscene. Wrestlers, judoka and other grapplers also. I've never met a grappler who wasn't a pristine lifter as well. But boxing is more of a skill sport and strength/conditioning are not so important IMO.
i do agree that he probably doesnt squat 190 kg full depth but i disagree that all the grapplers or wrestlers are very good at lifting weights. just look at khabib nurmagomedov or daniel cormier...khabib squats roughly around his bodyweight if not less than that and cormier squats around 120 kg above parallel. they are both ragdolling people in their weigh class. but it is true that MMA is not really a pure grappling/wrestling sport so that might be difference why they do get away with little weightlifting.
This is possible too :)
King kong🙂🙂🙂
Light weight
Mate, look at the battle ropes speed at 0:52 and he doesn't even look like he's trying, the speed he is moving from left to right, fuck trying to go up against that OR trying to fight him.
Thy did a gud job lol
A 200kg trap bar deadlift is nothing special, come on guys. Especially not with the high handles and when it's performed by a lifelong fighter who is also on dat-dere supplements. CZcamsrs Omar Isuf and Nick Wright can perform a REAL deadlift, which is a million times harder than a trap bar deadlift, with 280kg+. The lads in this video are strong as shit.
You are a new breed of silly. Deadlifts are extremely important for many sports. Search for "Joachim Olsen Training" here on CZcams. He is an Olympic medalist shot putter who can deadlift 320kg for reps. Or search for "Ilir Latifi deadlift". Wrestling and MMA top contender who can deadlift 280kg. Or look for some training videos of Robert Foerstemann. Olympic champion in sprint cycling who can squat and deadlift hundreds of kilos. I could go on.
André Jensen You are a fucking dumbass. You call your father a bitch. Nothing in your comment refuted what I said. Dumbass.
Well mate, does it fucking matter how much he can lift? He's fucking undefeated heavy weight champion of the world! He has nothing to prove untill he fights Wilder.
The Lord you are right that it doesn’t matter. As long as he performs well for his sport that is all that matters.
Pete Toshkov Exactly lad
