Haftor decided to use the exact same weight bumps as Eddie so people wouldnt complain, and he had 15 min timed rest times (Eddie took a whole 30min before the final lift). Even Vrian talked a out it and said that Eddie choosing all the weight was the reason he and other guys did not enter the 2016 deadlift championship. Jerry also said in an interview that having to wait 40 min before trying 500 because Eddie was dping his speech is the reason he got cold and injured his hamstring. So yeah, Haftor had in fact much stricter rules

Thumb and grip strength is irrelevant when you're using straps, let alone 8straps he used. Take away straps and deadlift suit and he'd be good for 400kg max.
@@dctPL there’s vids of him repping 400 without a suit - also he’s shown he’s able to pick up to 20 kilo plates with one hand which many top powerliftwrs struggle to do so grip is no issue- obvs not 500 but i’d say closer to 440-450

Because he was one of the strongest deadlifters ever in competition, the 'official' who refereed the lift is the most respected referee in the entire sport, the weights were supplied by rogue and weighed live on stream, rest times were kept to standard 15 minutes (Eddie took nearly half an hour between attempts) and the entire event was sanctioned by WUS and sponsored by several other sports companies
Even if you hate him (I hate him as a person, as an athlete he was great) there's no doubt he absolutely lit a fire under Thor to become what he was in 2018-2020, and if it weren't for Eddie I absolutely agree we'd probably still be around the 465-475 mark on the deadlift records. Eddie showed that this level of strength was possible and now people are actually chasing it The effect both he and Thor then subsequently had on the rest of the competition can't be denied
