Wow if only people could really learn to have fun instead of being salty! One of this fights went like 20 minutes for me and I got my ass totally kicked at the end... still enjoyed every second. the whole idea that the boss is actually a real player who can always surprise u and there is no way u memorize movesets and know what is about to come makes this one a great part of the game
Petya Iv I like the idea too. But the only problem is that the fights are mainly up to chance. While you have bosses who are always the same with their own attack patterns you can learn from, here it's not the case. If you face a different opponent, with a different weapon set, with a different playstyle and attitude, there's nothing to really "learn from" unless you're facing the same player every time.

Well to be fair it's nothing new, this type of player boss fight has been used since Demon's souls, it does feel more like a novelty. It can be fun against normal players but there also many when you are doing good but the person has shit internet and then it's impossible for you to win or just really annoying. I personally don't mind this type of boss fight, but i also don't think it's the best way of doing it.
Really glad we got this in the final DLC, was a welcome surprise! Luckily I'd spent around 20+ hours battling unsuspecting hosts the week of release; had my fill of the covenant. Shame to see so many people saying that its activity has withered away now. T^T
I do get enough summons at sl 120, just that it's kind of difficult now without the buffs that were there before the patch. It's still a lot of fun being the boss, even though the divine spear fragment etc have very limited uses. I wish they didnt touch this boss but am glad it still exists.

If you want to make it a difficult fight for them, use the fragment and healing spells with a strength weapon. You will destroy ganks and go on forever.
Dark Souls 3 community is disgusting, it's filled with casuals who do not want to get good at the game, and when they get punished for it (Angels, Midir, Spears of the Church) they cry and say it's not fun because it's too hard, when someone beats all of this at SL1 NG+7 without rolling and taking damage... Because it's called novelty, and it's not even hard to run past them, hell you can skip the two in the swamp by taking a shortcut straight to the Demon Princes. And honestly, I find Angels design way better than fucking Lost Izalith in DS1 and Shrine of Amana, Frigid Outskirts (which is the worst area in any games so far) in DS2, you kill them once they don't respawn and you can skip them easily, something which you can't do with the bullshit Reindeers...

Invaders rarely ever gank because they get killed by gankers before it ever gets that far, it only gets that bad in gank city which is designed that way, not to mention Invaders can't summon we have to rely on other invaders, so we never gank intentionally if it ever does happen and its usually against other ganks since the game prioritises ganks for matchmaking, so its not really a gank on the invaders part. Gankers are filthy scrubs who can't play the game without someone holding their hand because they know they suck at the game, its sad and they shouldn't be playing dark souls. Not to mention the blue bros can now summon up to 3 people effectively, in theory sending whordes of players at invaders before they actually reach the host (Not including white/sunbro phantoms). I think the only boss I summoned 3-4 people for was yhorm, and even that was for amusement purposes. The funniest thing to do in ds3 is to get the host, 3 summons, and Siegward to just stun lock yhorm into nothingness.
I don't know why, but oroboro always seems to draw in the most toxic ds3 players on the side of the earth. Yes, he buffs Yes he uses strong weapons. (Or cancer weapons because powerful=cancer apparently) But in the end, he just wants to share us his great adventures.
That Ledo's was like when I was on a 40/40 build, I took out my FUGS, one-handed, did an R1, look at that sweet 12 damage! That was the best moment in SoulsBorne lul!

"It takes real skill to gank" if were going by definition most of the traps and fights leading yoo to a boss are gang battles. then the invaders you beat say you won because this weapon is easy to use or this weapon does more damage or you are a meta scrub. no side wants the other to have fun and thats what's killing the franchise.

Nathan Jasenosky I actually am only just getting around to playing dark souls 2, but the combat compared to dark souls one is leagues ahead. Some areas are kind of a pain in the ass and some players are too, but it only detracts from the fun a little when you queue into a buffed Havel who 3 hits you for the third day in a row because the arena is so dead.
There must have been one person who is familiar with Oroboro; enough to know how good he is at PVP, and they heard about the boss gimmick in the Ringed City DLC, but haven't gotten to that part yet. Then when they enter the boss fight, ready for some random challenger then they see the armor Spear of the Church is wearing, and it dawns on them when they cast Darkmoon Blade on a Falcion: "Is.... is that Oroboro? Oh fuuuuuu-" Lmao, just imagining this exact scenario happening with a very high degree of probability is why I love this community. Heck if I was this person I would at least think, "Wow, that's a good Oroboro cosplay. This guy's probably pretty good."
You're using the ritual spear fragment wrong Oroboro. Think of it as laying a trap, it's perfect for when you need to heal or cast a healing miracle because if you stay in the spear area your opponent gets hurt after touching them. They're not really supposed to track your enemy but only in a straight line.
Great montage. I remember defeating 3 human players for the first time and it was gratifying. Great decision on trying different weapons; they were cool to look at.

Using the Dragonslayer Greataxe as a buffed Spear of the Church is some of the best fun I've had. Everybody's gangster until they realize they can't poise break you're incoming Weapon Art. What's it called again, Falling Star? Anime af, but it's appropriate for how hard it smacks down 2-3 people at once.
For whatever reason, this one time I was grinding this boss battle as a Sunbro, I was summoned in as a spear of the church. Didn't have the covenant equipped or anything, but luckily the host hadn't summoned any phantoms to help so I won fairly easily.
how old is this footage? pretty sure I don't get any extra hyper armour even vs a gank squad and I've never seen a painting guardian survive more than 5 seconds
I still find this fight enjoyable as the SoTC, mainly because I built an entire kit around doing it. I just stack passive heals and hide in the spear fragment while I buff. After that, attrition their estus by just playing passive AF and using the fragments whenever they try to get close. Combine this with the item that blocks estus healing, works like 90% of the time for me. Trouble is when the ganks know what they're doing, they can avoid the spear fragments , but defeating those ganks and pointing down assholes that think they're good just because they have the numbers on their side, feels so fucking good!

Checking in from 2018 to say this isn't nerfed heavily. I'm 32/2, and i'm only an average PvPer. Lots of fun to be had.

You're using the ritual spear fragment wrong Oroboro. Think of it as laying a trap, it's perfect for when you need to heal or cast a healing miracle because if you stay in the spear area your opponent gets hurt after touching them. They're not really supposed to track your enemy but only in a straight line.
Yeah, exactly. The best use for them is to cut a line through the entire arena, dividing the phantoms from the host, or to catch a breath and heal.
I hope this style of boss fight comes back in some form with Elden Ring DLC.

This game got turned into an anime...a real shame honestly. It used to be about an undead fighting the odds and becoming greater than himself.
Now its about an undead who can pick up a giant sword and immediately become an acrobat....
an undead who, at this point in the game, should have technically defeated and become the new lord of cinder... ie a god.
Well if you follow that logic then the game should just end after beating the last boss because you then are: A) Trapped at the final bonfire like the Lord before you, or B) Stuck in a world of darkness.

To be fair the same can be said of every other boss in the game too, the casuals bitched about spears of the church because players have the potential to just be a better boss.
One min-maxed pvp-experienced player with boss armor could wipe a team of gankers like the pathetic, uncoordinated idiots they are, of course the casuals whined about it.
It's the only boss in the game that doesn't telegraph its attacks.

Using the Dragonslayer Greataxe as a buffed Spear of the Church is some of the best fun I've had.
Everybody's gangster until they realize they can't poise break you're incoming Weapon Art. What's it called again, Falling Star? Anime af, but it's appropriate for how hard it smacks down 2-3 people at once.
For whatever reason, this one time I was grinding this boss battle as a Sunbro, I was summoned in as a spear of the church. Didn't have the covenant equipped or anything, but luckily the host hadn't summoned any phantoms to help so I won fairly easily.
how old is this footage? pretty sure I don't get any extra hyper armour even vs a gank squad and I've never seen a painting guardian survive more than 5 seconds

its was good for like 1 or 2 weeks then people complained that it was too hard, it's dark souls its suppose to be hard
its better than hyper armor. its poise. **running in the ninety's starts playing**
I still find this fight enjoyable as the SoTC, mainly because I built an entire kit around doing it. I just stack passive heals and hide in the spear fragment while I buff. After that, attrition their estus by just playing passive AF and using the fragments whenever they try to get close. Combine this with the item that blocks estus healing, works like 90% of the time for me. Trouble is when the ganks know what they're doing, they can avoid the spear fragments , but defeating those ganks and pointing down assholes that think they're good just because they have the numbers on their side, feels so fucking good!
This is the only way to break patches.
