- Probably the #1 thing I get commented on my videos anytime I talk about tires. But what do you think? Worth it or not? Let me know below!

Ask a motorcyclist if they cheap out on their tires, that should tell you everything you need to know.
As a motorcyclist I personally do cheap out a bit the recommended tyre for my Ktm super duke is a $315 (aud) tyre which will get me about 5000km I go for a cheaper option which is $265 which gets me about 5300km and gives me 95% of the performance of the more expensive ones
Honestly I think it's stupid to run the best tyres because unless you are using that last 5% of the grip that the more expensive tyre will give you it's not worth it
There is one cheaper option but I don't run it cause I find it harder to balance it cause I do my own tyres but they are about the same
I buy perellis for mine, 500 a tire, but worth every cent
@@TrueSucrose Thats not rlly chesping out, thsts just going for a better budget option. Cheaping out would mean getting one of the lowest quality tires cause they're more affordable
@@TrueSucrosethat’s not cheaping out. You’re so silly
Car tires ≠ motorcycle tires
People who defend being cheap on important things like tires and brakes are stupid
Dude! Told my buddy that tires matter when he got a set of budget ones. He has two kids! He said relax man, it’s an HRV it doesn’t need good tires. 🤦🏻♂️
Edit: I will say I understand how some people simply cannot afford a nice tire. This is not a knock on them. In the case above, the guy has money.
@@enjoipandas Your buddy has to work on financial priorities man, all vehicles deserve safe tires.
@@yongling9825 tell me about it. He couldn’t be shamed into it, I tried.
When i worked as a tire guy i found out that 90% of people drive on bald tires with the wire showing. Lots of people drive on 10+ year old dry rotted tires to. Any tire is better than a bald one. If a 60 dollar ling long tire is all you can afford then thats better than driving on racing slicks lol. Your average person will run a tire till its bald which is not at all the correct thing to do but its just reality.
Dont even try to inform people either cause they never get it through there head a guy had a dry rotted tire and i called him telling him we cant fix it and he got upset and kept going on this whole thing about hows it bad the treads good? The car hasnt been driven in years how can a tire go bad by sitting? Then said the most nonsense thing i ever heard. "it doesnt make sense cause heat and physics and stuff" and that was pretty much everyone i interacted with.
Most people only know how to turn the key and go and nothing else. Today i helped a guy check his oil dipstick on his grand prix cause he didnt know how. Im not kidding.
@@EconomyElk Wow, he sure assumed everything is invincible whenever it's not in use, eh? 🙃
my experiences in motorcycle tires is that cheap tire will get you killed 💀
my experience is that cheap tires wear way faster than expensive tires, faster than the amount they cost less so you end up spending more in the long run. Expensive tires are also designed to have good performance over their entire lifespan and cheap tires usually perform worse as they wear.
The cheap shit I see usually hardly wears. No grip = no wear.
I've never had a set of tires wear quicker than the most expensive set of tires I've ever bought. The sport cup tires are meant to grip well, not to last a long time. Just because a tire costs more, doesn't mean it will last longer. I also have never had cheap tires grip anywhere near the level that the sport cup did. You buy tires for grip or longevity, not both, and you pay more for the tire when it does that job well.... also some cheap tires can be used for budget drifting, because they don't grip well and slide easily. You just need to know what you're buying.
if it were to wear it would be softer, and therefore have better grip, more often than not this is not the case
Wear is wear. Every tire loses performance as they're used. Look at f1. Most expensive tires that are constantly having data taken on them and as they wear there performance drops of a ton. Use a tire for what it's made and it'll work fine. Cya if your speeding around on cheap tire they're gunna wear fast but if your just cruising back and forth to work they'll be fine.
It’s like shoes you would not do a running race in Sandals.
Tires like most things in life, you get what you pay for. So decide what you will use the tires for, and make a decision based on that. Track cars will need and perform better with a good tire. Ling Longs for the daily, and Michelin for the track car.
this is what happens when girls reject Asian guys.
When I bought my Viper, it had Michelin Pilot Supersports on it that were 11 years old. Now it has new Pilot Sport 4 S on it. The difference is immense. Even though the old tyres were also UHP Michelin's.
Don't cheap out on rubber unless you want accidents. This goes for both tyres and condoms.
Man i used to have 4 different tires on my car when i bought it, but now i have Continentals on it and i can really feel the difference, i feel safer taking turns esp wet, i can pull away faster cause my tires don't spin as easy and on top of that they look way better. Never cheaping out on tires again unless i decide to drift
for real when i got my 185 HP 3rd gen mazda 6 it had some random chinese brand generic all season on it and it would chirp 2nd gear in the dry and spin in the wet. It would even spin in the dry if you tried hard enough which i did once by accident. I switched the tires out for some continental extreme contacts along with some lowering spings and adjustable struts and shocks and it wouldnt spin even in the rain. Now im running custom wheels and upped my tire contact patch from 225 to 245s and now i got nearly endless amounts of grip around corners. When it was pooring down rain the other day i decided to see if i could get the fronts to spin and even when i brake boost launched in 1st with traction control off it just shot off the line zero wheel spin and thats with my car making about 200 horse now.
@@EconomyElk did shocks and springs too, makes such a big difference.
I was getting Bridgestone Assurance for my mini-van. I ended up getting the more expensive Bridgestone Assurance ComfortDrive for SAFETY.
In the dry they perform the same. But in the wet the ComfortDrive stops from 50mph to zero more than 20 feet shorter! The lap time on a circuit is much better. We are not tracking a Honda Odyssey but if my wife or my family is driving in the rain and we need to make an emergency stop or emergency lane change that extra $40 per tire might save us, literally.
Wrecked car, hospital bills, surgery, death. Tires and brakes are very important!
60$ for a tire is pretty cheap but there are very good options between 100$ and 200$
As someone who ran $75 Douglas Performance A/S on my '18 Civic FK7 for just 3 months, CHEAP TIRES ARE NOT WORTH IT. They were "fine" in dry weather, although they spun like crazy despite having as little power going down due to my CVT. In the wet, they were straight-up dangerous. The first and only time driving in the rain was enough to move up to Conti DWS 06+s on any vehicle I owned past it.
Oh yeah, General G-Max's are just as bad. Just double the price.
I think this is what most people don’t consider. How tires do in the rain. We bought a Volvo with garbage tires and couldn’t drive over 55 mph on the highway without traction control coming on. I changed them for pirellis and never had another problem. It’s not worth the $100-200 dollars you save to have to drive stressed that your vehicle is going to slide off the highway in the rain.
I had a set of Aspen all season tires on my miata for 3 years before the wet grip got sketchy. S.Drives seemed incredible.
I used to buy 155 13s for my Tercel @ $30 A pop. I got about 3000 miles from them. So I spent 50% more per tire ($45) on Goodyears. Boom! 15000 miles. At least. They outlasted the car.
Are you missing a zero there? 15000 miles is absolutely horrible tire life
Continental Contisport DWS 06+ , all day for the daily driver.
I bought a set of winter tires for my 2000 Chevy S10, should have been $360 CND, but the store messed up and I got them for $180 CND. They still looked new after 14 years when I sold the truck. They were used from November to April every year for 12 years (the last 2 years it was parked because I had lowered it 2 extra inches).
When my wife bought her Audi RS3, she decided to go for a premium tire and they have been amazing these past 2 Canadian winters.
After spending 3 years in the hills of Tennessee, I'm glad that I don't have cheap tires.
even standard day to day driving, i prefer harder compound tires. they tend to last longer than your standard tire.
Sometimes cheap tires are cheap because they’re new like Kumho was the cheapest tire you could get but then they made a name for their selves
I had them shits on my 06 GS300 ($130 each) and they were SHIT, now with my 07 LS460 I run Continentals ($165 each with deal) and they WAYYYYYYY better
Always bought ps4s’s until I got sick of buying new rears for two cars every 6 months, tried out some mf douglases and they’ve held up great so far. Price of a set is the same as a tire I was getting, the force needed to break traction is much less so I’ve had a fucking blast with them. Haven’t gotten chewed up at all in 4 months and I think they’re lasting longer than Michelins also. I also have my bit of fun and let them cool down, so far I’m impressed with shit tires
In Brazil we have a saying, “Cheap is expensive.”
Live in the midwest and recently got my first car. I HIGHLY recommend getting good tires that are rated for the weather you have in your area. If that means you end up spending a bit more, so be it. Would you rather spend $40-50 more per tire or $2000+ in damages when your car spins out?
Main thing you need to worry about is speed rating. Anything cable of id say 150 need y rated tires. And ig 250 isn’t all the cheap per tire but like he said they are worth it.
I had no idea my tires were 12 years old until I tried to drive in the rain
I have no problems with used tires... USED. I pay $57 for a single 245/65 R16. It's a toss-up on if i get BFG/Milestar or if i get some linglong or savaros. I've gotten both. It's great when you can't afford a new tire. Once i start actually building my truck up into an offroader, im getting toyos, but for now, my linglongs and savaros I get from the used tire shop last fine even when im beating on them at triple digit speeds (allegedly)
Growing up is getting excited about tires.
Every video I see is "y'all blew up my comments"😂
One should also think about how much the life of their family is worth. Cheap tires in areas with rainy spring and fall are substantially more prone to hydroplaning.
Off road tires one will use on a daily driver gave similar factors to consider. I used TRXUS MT tires on my modified Jeeps. They had better wet traction on road and quieter than many AT tires. Plus they dig through New England snowy roads far better than AT's.
So fancy
Don't cheep out on tires they are the only interface between you and the road and they are the most complex thing to design on your car.
Cheap Chinese tires are about all I can get for my ae86. 14s are getting harder to come across. Toyo r888s will fit but they’re hard to find in the spec I need
In America we have a saying, “You get what you pay for.”
If you don't go anywhere above the speed limit and your car has at most 120 bhp then cheap tires will be more than enough for a couple of years
But if you drive a RWD V8 with almost 400HP and be the craziest motherfucker on the road then you need good ass tires like ExtremeContact Continental that I got
I’ve done some racing and the chief race instructor at Porsche said he gets new tires in his station wagon and they tell him your tires are still good, you don’t have to swap them yet. He says, thank you but yes I do.
As the tire wears out so does your ability to stop in shirt order and one change aggressively in an emergency situation.
The cheap tires are fine until it’s pouring rain and there’s an accident ahead and suddenly you have to brake and it takes you 20 extra feet to stop from 50mph on cheap tires compared to good tires (potentially more). Now you have ruined your car, rear ended someone and your stuck so you might get rear ended yourself, not to mention potential medical bills, lost work, recovery time, death, paralysis, etc.
Never drift (on track) on Michelin's, instant delamination. For the price I don't even like them for grip or street driving. Kenda's are popular drift tires for good reason, they don't chunk/delam and have consistent grip thru their life despite the insane heat cycles of drifting. Need more grip? Nitto, but don't expect near as many laps outta them.
I personally like Metzler and Pirelli tires on sport bikes and run M9RR's on my Suzuki for a good balance of lifespan and peg-scraping cornering grip (dual compound, tall profile), and rapid warming in cold weather as well as good rain performance from high carbon content.
veryyyy true, okay call me a retard but i have a pontiac gto. i replaced ALLL the bushings, tie rods, control arms, everything. i got a pair of new welds for the front and bought used tires bc i couldn’t afford new ones. i got a pair of evo2 hankooks for the front. OML i can feel the upgrade from the bushings now, the car feels tighter and more stable. i was having issues where the wheel would vibrate but not anymore. the used tires i had before were different brands one had a slightly taller profile but both had the same numbers.
i only rocked the used tires bc i sold my old set of rims on offerup that i had on the car. it feels so nice to drive aggressively now.
on the front i’m running a 245 evo2
on the rear i’m running a 275 nt05
Ask someone who wants to get to the ski hill how important good snow tires are
I've driven through multiple blizzards this year
Michelin 4 life. 🥰
I've had good luck with cheap Chinese tires ( I also own high quality sets of tires )
Douglass is my favorite
I had Douglas tires on my 1st car and they were absolute garbage in the rain. Felt like driving on ice about halfway through the tread. Please be careful when they start to wear.
@@aidenchristiansen5776 I've never felt that at all lol. They aren't amazing in snow, but definitely not bad either.
@whyidontknow7113 may have been the specific tire that I got and i didn't want to risk buying from them again after my previous experience with Douglass.
My dad was a tire builder for 40 years built tire from everything from dirt track race tires to 20 foot tall open pit mone dump truck tires and he said it's all about compound and the fact most tires are made in the same factories. Its not cost effective for every tire company to have its own manufacturing plant but he's right ill by cheap Walmart tire for my daily and they'll last super long cause I'm just driving back and forth for 20 minutes at a time. He says not actually using it but driving is using it. Its the fact people speed amd don't know.how to drive plus the lack.of care.
Cheap tires tend to perform poorly in the rain. So that one time going 70 in the interstate when it’s pouring rain is when you’ll want good performing tires in case of an emergency braking or lane changing situation.
Research your own tires. You absolutely can cheap out on tires if you only drive on weekends going to car shows or take it to the track to swap to other tires. If it's your daily though, a middle line is probably the perfect fit. For those canyon carvers, your wallet probably bleeds from tire related injury. Different use cases allow different things. And if you're just gonna do burnouts I really hope you cheaped out
It's your first contact with the road so it beter be good.
Why would I drive around on my track tires when I wanna get a cheeseburger!?
Michelin Cup 2s might be 4 times more expensive only because of your markup😂
Cheap out on winter tires and all you do is spin buy some studded winters and you dont have that problem eithere
Some states don’t allow studded tires unfortunately
Hahaha California has shit roads 😅
Where are people finding new tires for $60?!?!
Cheapest i find that fit my car are $93 each
Or your car isn't performance-oriented in the slightest and you just need something good for city-driving for sometimes going on the freeway at 70-80 mph for a few hours. For that use, yeah my $60 tires have been doing amazing for the past few years
Ackshully 🤓 cheap tires just suck overall and come apart on their own 😂😂
60 dollar tires? I'm lucky if I get under 400
Oh people are gonna love hearing that they're a bunch of posers 😂
Cheap tires are far from being balanced
Keyword is MIGHT work just fine or SHOULD work great
Bro I need help with my car :((((
😢😢😢
Cheep tires are the way to go for burnouts. The whole point is to shred them.
A more focused purpose lmao ya thats why they have tire built for that purpose. My father but tires his entire working life and he said use the tire made for the job and the last just as long as they're suppose to. Your excuse is pushing a tire not meant to race. Ya know shit they're not gunna work. It's not a problem it's you using the wrong tire for the wrong thing. They're doing jusy fine because they're using them for and how they're meant to be
Michelin is the GOAT, I run Michelin on my cars and mountain bikes, tons of my friends are sponsored by Michelin and thanks to them i have tons of free tires lol.
Continentals also good besides kinda soft
But uhuuhhh
Who needs traction anyway right
Take any corner sideways on the cheapest rubber
if ur just using ur car to commute to work and don't live in alaska or someplace crazy, there's no reason to spend the money on fancy tires other than to flex.
Not always, I commute and shit but if you be PUSHING your shit like passing everyone, consistently hitting the speed limiter and shit then you need quality tires
From 2018 to this year 2024
I have been buying Chinese Tires each two year. They are absolutely amazing. Not as good as Michellen or any other Japanese brands but they work.
It's the "just as good" argument. It isn't and you know it isn't, but you need to justify why you are being a poor.
I agree but I'll b honest vercelli strada ii is my go to all season and I've run 10s on those. I do run falken in the summer.
Not all expensive tires are good. Spent $2000 on a set of Bridgestone Potenzas. What a deathtrap! Fun if you want have no traction and swing the rear end at will.
$2K ($500 each) and STILL got shitty tires?! My dude you got SCAMMEDDDDDDDD big time
raceing = burn money
Racing*
Cheap tire gang 🤙
Nah
Well i know ive just been buying Michelin ps4s and they rock.
Cheapskates 😮💨
