vlog 28 | KITCHEN RENOVATION - Shopping for Countertops for our Kitchen Makeover || Kyle & Amanda Vlog
*Were there any countertops that caught your eye today?! If so, leave the time stamp in your comment & we will see which ones you loved!! 🥰 I’m so excited for this!! Next, we will be prepping the kitchen! Stay tuned!!*
Luxor very very pretty I feel like the darker or the busier ones are for the bigger, bigger houses where the decoration Usually it’s very blah but your house usually you decorate and you change colors pillows that’s gonna be way too busy with all the other ones. Lighter ones would look way better. In my opinion everybody is different of course.
Hi guys! I have the Luxor for our kitchen island ( 9 foot island) and we love it. We too do not like heavy veining and this is just the right amount. This has held up very well over the past 8 years.
When you went to Home Depot, the first countertop you looked at in the display kitchen is what we have. We love it!!
@@melissaconfer5138 I also put in one big square sink and love it!!! So easy to wash pots, pans, small 4 legged babies 😊
I liked the quartzite, too. Very pretty!!!
I went with quartz, it is as durable as the other stone, but it is non porous and the other stones are not. This means it is more stain resistant and you can work with your food on the counter. I love this, especially for baking. We went with white with a little fleck/veins in it, but it is very minimal.
I'm a quartz girl 100%!! I don't need one more thing to maintain so it works for me. I always use hotpads when necessary and I always use cutting boards 🤷 I also don't like busy at all! My countertop is very similar to the first one you looked at (the Luxor). I did love the Quartzite that you loved!!! No matter what you decide, you're going to love it when it's all done!!! You always have good taste and it will all work out!
Thanks girl! And yessss! The Luxor is gorgeous! Seems very timeless!
I also have quartz, do the same as you. I use cutting board and cork for hot pots. No maintenance at all I was looking at granite at first but couldn’t find one I loved.
Here’s my vote: The curved sides make the sink easier to clean. I also love that my drain is at the top left because that gives you more sink space without a drain in the way.
We have the big square sink and yes it’s pretty but hard to clean and hard to keep clean. Those corners are horrible! Our drain is in the middle top. I’m pleased with that.
I just Finished renovating my kitchen. I did all new cabinets because the previous ones had some odd laminate on the front and were so ugly! They weren't exactly white cabinets, shaker style, with a big quartz farmhouse one basin sink. I love love the sink. Instantly washing big pans was SO easy. My drain is in the middle, but at the top. My counters I got were quartz Viatera Aria. I am so happy with them, after coming from just old laminate. You will love having it all done. I've never had a fancy kitchen, and it now feels beautiful, even if it is fairly small.
I think you should splurge and get what you really want! You have done so many of the home projects being budget conscious. You deserve to treat yourself. I only make this suggestion if you plan on staying in the house long term. I have granite countertops and often find that the “speckles” in them look like crumbs, bugs etc. I suggest you get the quartzite. You will be much happier in the long run.
Just a tip with granite Amanda and Kyle, we have black granite and the man installing it said the only two things that would damage it are fresh lemons ( being left on the counter top) and diamonds in rings ( yes I’ve scratched ours!!) and I’ve also found out since that diamond tipped knife blades are also damaging to granite. Ours has held up so so we’ll.
I'd have to have a counter top to roll dough on, put hot pans on, and something that isn't high maintenance. All of the counter tops you selected were gorgeous. Good luck shopping!
I’m so excited for the kitchen renovation ❤
Me too!!
We had a new sink put in our kitchen and didn’t pay attention to the plumbing. We should of bought a sink with the drain on the side to make it easier to install. It was so difficult to put in the sink with center drain. Wishing we could have looked first at the plumbing before purchasing the sink. So happy for your new kitchen. 😊
I’m excited to see the kitchen!! I painted our cabinets before I knew what the heck I was doing and used regular interior paint and it’s now peeling. So I’ve been so glad you’ve been doing your cabinets I’m totally taking notes!!
Oh man! That stinks will all that time/work! But next time totally try beyond paint! We’re doing all our bathrooms with it haha
We got an induction stove top. I love it. You can heat water in one minute!! I have grandkids so if they touch the stove top after we've cooked, they don't burn their fingers. It's amazing!! Prices went up so much with the pandemic and just never went down.
That’s the type we’re planning to get since the gas was insanely expensive to get put in. So happy you’ve loved it!
Quartz is significantly better than granite. Where I live in the Midwest, it is the choice of most new homes & renovations. Many folks get their granite replaced with quartz.
@@KyleandAmandaVlogs I'd recommend getting an induction protector too if you can - it's like a rubber mesh/mat that sits on top of the glass (but heat still passes through) and it saves your hob from getting scratched/beat up by the bottom of the pans.
Curved corners on the sink are easier to clean, but 1000% a workstation sink is the way to go
Yay!! That’s actually the one we picked today!!
Amanda I just love all your content! I watch at night after my day is winding down. It just let's my mind unwind and think about just good things. I am enjoying your recipes and cooking. I love how Kyle just fits in in your Vlogs. You all just make me smile. Good job!
So excited for you that you can finally do the kitchen. Looking forward to seeing it!🤩
How exciting that you're finally starting with your kitchen Reno!! We wish you guys good luck
Rounded sink edges with drain in back toward middle. East to clean. Nice and deep.
Can't wait for this renovation!! I hope you get what you want!!!!!
So much fun I can’t wait to see the kitchen makeover ❤🇦🇺
I have a single basin black stainless steel sink rectangular withe hard straight edges. Purchased from Amazon, saved about $200. Drain is center back. I love it!
Almost 2 years!!! Wow time flys!! Can't wait to see the kitchen all done 😀
Wow! I think granite that was gray/brown w soft white....its what I have. It looks so different when it's installed.....its really pretty.
Those options are just beautiful!!!!
Omgsh I’m sooooo excited for the kitchen renovation!!!💗💗
Same!! It will look so different when we’re done!!
This is so exciting, now it's finally happening, I can't wait for this kitchen remodel. My favorite was the same as yours, I also chose it every time 😊. By the way, it's so grate to see you walking hand in hand, you made a good choice Amanda 😉😊❤
I can't wait to see you kicthen done you both work together so good ❤❤❤❤❤ thanks for sharing .have a wonderful weekend God bless
Building materials, such as brick, marble and granite, contain very low-levels of naturally-occurring radioactivity. However, these materials can emit radon as the materials decay, which can elevate the indoor radon levels in your home
Can’t wait for the beautiful makeover !
Oh yeah!! Kitchen renovation! Can't wait 👏🏻😁
Woohoo!! Finally!
I Love watching all the real shopping trips and and conversational videos with you and Kyle!
More to come!
Loved the quartzite you picked!
I have a large deep square sink with the drain in the top middle. Love it! It fits everything!! Even my gas stovetop grates!
The lighter colored 10:43 on the left… Taj Mahall!!❤️
Yippee! So ready and happy for you. Been looking forward to this series.
Ahh thank you 💕 me tooooo!!!
Hey guys. Such an exciting project to be working on. We remodeled our kitchen last January. We are thrilled with the outcome. Wouldn’t change a thing. I did quartz silestone calacatta gold for countertops. I did a square single under-mount stainless sink. Our drain in in the middle. I’m so in love with my kitchen. Can’t wait to see how your dream kitchen comes out!!
I built a house last year and chose a deep single stainless sink - under mount with curved sides and a middle drain. I love it and it’s so easy to scrub clean.
I feel Luxor seems to be the prettiest but granite is the toughest ! A white granite will be the best.
Amanda I just wanted to say Thankyou and your family from plant eaters for the vegan sausage recipe from years ago I just tried it , I wish I had years ago, now older I decided to try it and it is delicious
Que bueno que ya empiezan la remodelación de la cocina sé que les quedara hermosa pues tiene buen gusto.❤
Hello Amanda, hello Kyle! 🙋🏼♀️
I am already looking forward to seeing the videos of your kitchen Makeover, 🤩 and I think you are already picking the right countertop!
I have achieved my dream of a white kitchen with a black granite countertop in our new apartment and I’m very happy about it! 🥰 The surface of the countertop is not smooth and shiny, but matt and rough, as the fronts of the cabinets are already shiny! My rectangular sink has only one basin and is rounded at the bottom, the faucet is in the middle and the drain is in the middle of the back! 👋🏼
I just had my kitchen renovated. I have a single deep sink with the drain in the middle. It has the cutting board, strainer, and drainer. It also came with the faucet. I absolutely love it. We also went with the painted cabinets but a stone counter and wood backsplash.
When I moved in to my new place... I painted my cabinets of kitchen, 2 bathrooms and laundry room (with Chalk paint an sealer) so far I'm loving it 😊
The one that was behind Kyle when he took the first picture it was sparkly 3.47 I liked that one . The taj mahal was nice tho if you both like it too . , aww that's a shame if the taj is too much . , think long term tho guys , it's not something you switch out all the time , if you can stretch the budget, I'd say go for it . Cant wait to see it all come together . Good luck ❤
Hi there my friends!☀️ EXCITING!Yes! I agree with Amanda some of those were “too busy”😵💫. I am so excited for this!😆. Going to be a “busy” project! Kyle! I saw that photo! It was a nice silly moment after all the busy countertops.😂 I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Tajmahal?!? that both of you like. It’s beautiful and then if you choose a nice color for cabinets it will look AWESOME in your home. There was a Charcoal grey…it was soft and had fine veins in it…looks like you could clean easily and it would look great with lighter cabinet color! Looks like Kyle is going to have to dish out the bucks for the EXPENSIVE one!🤣👍🤭
Many moves, two kids, working together, and y'all still hold hands! My heart melts! So sweet! (PS My fave is recycled glass, preferably in green tone. And Mike Birbiglia is the best. His mouse story...so funny.)
lol! He’s hilarious! And yes!! Especially when we aren’t distracted by the kiddos, we feel like we’re dating 🥰😅 so thankful for him!
I loveeeeee to go see him! Such a good comedian he’s so funny!!!! Get the counter top y’all love! Splurge on it for your home think of how much you’ll love it every time you use it or see it:)
We have a rectangular shaped hard edged sink and our drain is on the right side!!! I love it!!! No complaints!
I have a full sink no split sink with drain in the upper right hand corner! LOVE IT! I have had many sinks, for me I hated the split sink limits the amount of dishes you can put in the sink, and without that divide you can wash bigger items by hand like large dishes used in the oven etc. Mine has round edges. Of course, it is what you like best and feel most comfortable with since you will use it many times throughout the day! I like the drain in the corner, again it gives me more sink room. Enjoy the search to your new kitchen!!
I'm so excited for you to get to the kitchen! I don't know how you'll be able to find a counter top after falling in love with the really expensive one 😢
I'm sure no matter what you do, it will be beautiful! Can't wait to see what you do ❤
We installed a quartz countertop (very close to Luxor) last year and absolutely love it. Nothing stains, and I put hot pots on it all the time with no ill effects. And easy peasy to keep clean and maintain because it never needs sealing. It's almost indestructible. We opted for a huge undermount farm sink (probably 30" at least) in white porcelain and we love it - it's curved (not hard rectangular corners and edges) and simple to clean. We have our faucet mounted in the middle, which for the size of our sink seems like it's in the right position. The drain is on the right side of the sink. Hope this helps.
I keep commenting while watching your vid lol! I have a large single basin in my laundry/prep area. One that is extra deep for washing big pots and large amounts of produce. But I went with a double extra deep sink in the kitchen. I love having one sink to soak dishes, or drip dry, etc while still having a functional sink on the other side. If I had to pick one I’d go with a double sink. The one in my kitchen is Silgranite by Blanco. It’s man made, non-porous. No maintenance. It will actually dull your knives is so tough. It comes in many colours, I went with a dark grey to match the grey veining in my counters and I LOVE it.
Very exciting! You have EXCELLENT taste so I’m sure whatever you choose will look beautiful. 😊😊
Aww thanks Kathy! I can’t wait to see it all come together!
I love all of you cleaning videos ❤ 0:5
I'm so excited you are doing this now as I'm now looking for laminate countertops (retired now so need to go cheaper lol) to go in my new house. I have picked almost the same pattern that you like white with some gray...not too busy 😂 I also want a single sink...I had a granite composite sink before & loved it & it's about the same price as stainless & looks so much better & doesn't scratch 😊 I had quartz countertops in my old house & loved them! ♡♡ I already painted my cabinets & put in new flooring...ready to be done 🎉
I LOVE the single sink with no division. I also like the drain in the center.
I love the single basin sinks too!!
I love your vlogs 😍😍
It is just like hanging out with friends 🥳
I think you should go with the countertop you love 😁 Remember you have to look at it every day for many years! It is worth the money!
I can't wait to see how your kitchen turns out 😁 You always make such great projects 🤩
That is so true!! It would be a good space to put some extra budget 🥰 and awww! That makes me so happy to hear you enjoy our vlogs so much!!!
Taj Mahal is lovely. My husband is an accountant for a stone countertop supply and install company and it's one of the most expensive ones they have. They should have been able to give you a price at least for the stone, though. Maybe it works differently, but his company has a price per slab and per square foot that they charge for install. But I suppose if you're working with a contractor who is doing the installing instead of the stone company it would be different. It's so much fun to look at the different options! My husband brings me samples home from time to time to use as trivets and I love to see what they have.
Omgsh stone trivets would be so neat! And yeah, definitely didn’t love not getting ball park prices in the beginning 🫠
We have a single basin sink by Kraus and it drains on the side which we absolutely love!!!
Girl if you love the quartzite and future Kyle is gonna deal with it gooooooo!!!! Lol my husband says that all the time “future Horne can deal with that!” Lol 😂 I don’t think twice when he says that lol 😂
Haha yesssss!!!!! 😅 sounds like a green light to me! 🟢
Excited for you guys!
Ahh thank you 💕 I’m so excited & still surreal we’re finally doing it!
last year for Christmas we replaced my boyfriends moms sink with a granite composite single basin. It has the drain on one side and has sharp corners. We both personally love it. I think having the drain on one side is better than the middle. When washing dishes by hand you have a lot more room to keep dishes in the middle of the sink and it will not stop the flow of the water. The granite composite is very durable but you have to make sure you wipe it down frequently otherwise the hard water will stay on the inside of the sink. Ours is black which makes it a lot easier to see it. The one we have is made by Kholer. I love watching your videos with you and Kyle. I am only 20 but have been in a relationship for the last 4 years and I hope to be like you two some day. I love @thiscrazylife just as much as this. I hope this helped :)
So happy for you that this is really happening !! Can't wait for your updates !
Omgsh me too!!!!
@@KyleandAmandaVlogs 🤗
If you can afford it, get what you want!!! Can't wait to see!!!
So excited for this renovation 😊
Us too!🥰🥰🥰
I remodeled my kitchen 4 years ago and had marble countertops and backsplash installed. I also had marble installed in my master bath and kids bathroom (walls, countertops, showers, floors). I love them. I have 6 kids ages 1-15. It hasn't been as hard as I was told to take care of and they look beautiful. Every company I talked to wanted to convince us not to get marble (for the reasons you mentioned) but I was dead set on it. My marble installer later told me some installers try to avoid working with marble because they can get easily damaged during install and it's easier to work with a sturdier stone and move on to the next project. My installer was great and knew what he was doing. Nothing was damaged during install. I'm glad I went with marble and I definitely LIVE in my house with 6 kids.
Wow that’s amazing! They sure scared us away from it 😩
We full-renovated our galley-style kitchen 2 yrs ago. I went with a commercial style deep sink from Lowe's with 90* corners. It still glistens. I love it!
Oh really?! 😍
I’m super stroked!! Man that kitchen gonna shine like the living room pops!
Can’t Wait!!
Can't wait!
Hi Amanda I just wanted to way in about the sink situation. I have a oversized sink and absolutely love it, no divider and the drain is in the center. I absolutely love it. The only thing I'd change, is mine has corners and it can be a pain to get in to clean the corners. If I buy another I would get rounded corners. I won't go back to divided or normal single sinks. When I have to wash the turkey roaster or do the pullouts from the fridge they all fit and I don't get water everywhere. Have a great day!!
So happy that you are getting your kitchen done. Alot of decision to make. I did my kitchen 17 yrs ago.I really need to redo mine. Have fun. 😊
It’s so exciting to finally be redoing it! This kitchen is about 18 years old
How exciting! I was thinking of quartz for our kitchen remodel, but this has given me second thoughts! Good luck on your remodel!
It’s such a big decision since you can’t just replace it every few years if your tastes change 😅
I am hoping to replace my countertops in the future, so you tour was interesting to me my kitchen is much smaller then yours however! And I want to also replace my sink, not sure I like the side drain idea, plumbers are very expensive as I found out by installing a half bath in my home so I will probably stick to the old double sink idea to avoid a major plumbing issue! I am really enjoying your makeovers and you have given me some ideas for changes in my home, so thank you!!
Can't wait to see what countertop you both decide on it. Exciting. Thanks for taking me out today lol.
So happy you enjoyed spending the day with us!
Excited for the kitchen renovation
Us too!! Finally!
Good morning, how exciting 🎉. I am not sure which stone is the most durable or requires special attention. I have the hardest time with making big decisions. Enjoy skiing and good luck with your decision. Thanks for taking us along today. ❤🎉
OMG, this is my most awaited vlog - kitchen
Haha same!! I can’t believe the time is finally here!
I have butcherblock counters with a large single bowl sink. My sink is for either under or over mount which I got thru amazon as well as the faucet. It has one side that is a couple inches less deep from the front to the back which I really like since I have a drainer that hangs over that side. The drain is on that side as well so it doesn't interfere with dishes getting caught.
Hi Amanda. We just did a makeover in out kitchen and I redid our countertops with Granite....fyi, they'll tell you that you can't sit hot pans on your granite either.
I love my granite it turned out really pretty in my kitchen. Have fun looking at the different stones.
Did you look at porcelain countertop options? But I ❤ the Taj Mahal quartzite. Sinks- ❤ the large on bowl with the off center drain, the one I have chosen for our remodel is square corners as it really didn’t matter to me as I keep my sink cleaned and clear daily; and I added all the extras to my sink- the sink rack to fit the bottom of the sink, the colander, cutting board and dish rack- they all fit into the lip of the the sink which is an under mount sink.
You two are so fricken adorable! I swear the best couple to hang out with ❤ I hope you had fun at the comedian show and the ski trip!
Ahh!! Thanks girl! And Omgsh it was such a good show!
I love the quartz that has sparkle to it.
It’s so pretty!!
Quartz is really nice my daughter has it in her kitchen and it looks beautiful.Good luck guys and can wait to see it all done. I know when you’re done is going to look amazing!!!!😊
They do have such beautiful quartz options!
I haven’t watched your videos for quite some time (my son started school, mum life) but I’m so glad this popped up in my feed today. Love these videos 💛🤩
Ahh yay! Happy you’re here!!
I currently have Calcatta Gold by Silestone and in love it. The veining is more muted and not so in your face.
Ooohhh yes 🙌 I’m so excited
Same!!! 🥰🥰🥰
I love the drain on the said I have the one with the rank in the bottom and the strainer for washing produce... Love it!
Oh thanks!! I didn’t even think about having to pick anything other than “single basin” 😅
@@KyleandAmandaVlogs Take your time and fine exactly what you want... it is worth it!
We did an entire kitchen reno last year. Everything is new including ceilings, floors etc and even changed the design. The one thing I DID get and absolutely LOVE is my quartz counter tops.
I never put hot pots/pans on my old counters so cant see why I would need to now. We always used trivets and still do. They clean up so easily and are stunning. I have a granite color on my island and am so pleased with it. Hope you find what works for you
Oh wow!! I bet it definitely feels like a totally different space now with changing so much!
I have quartz and love it! I also went with the Kraus undermount workstation in the 45" size. Pros: slide for cutting boards etc, large. Cons: Leaning curve to wash debris to drain on right side. Overall love it!
Happy you love it! And wow!! That’s a massive sink!
So excited for you! It’s been a while !
Can’t believe it’s finally time!
I just installed quarts in my kitchen. It’s white with very light gray veining. I love it, easy to clean. I have put pans right on the counter from the oven. I always use a chopping board when cutting things. I’ve also always had stainless Steele sinks but I have an undermount white farm style sink. The drain is on the right side. There is a slight slant to the sink so the water flows toward the drain. I love it. First one I’ve e.ver had. You can put your strainer on the left side while washing you veggies on the right side. Hop.e the helps. Quartz is worth it. 🥰
Thank you!! 💕 This is great to know!!
I can't wait to see the kitchen!!! The Luxor was my favorite.
It was so pretty!!
10:18 - Personally, I love man made stone and the quartz is so beautiful! You can choose exactly how busy it is, how colorful and how minimal. For the sink I choose round because you’re not wasting that space or bumping into the sides
So true! You can make quartz just what you want 🙌🏼
The video i've been waiting for 😊 Hello from Cyprus 🇨🇾
Haha same! I’m so excited we’re finally here!
I avoided busy, too😄 & wasn't happy when man-made was just as or more expensive as natural stone. I've seen the Taj Mahal in person before & it is indeed pretty. Both of your hearts fell in love with it so it's a good choice & worth it for future Kyle!
Right?! I was surprised that the man made options were just as pricy! And yes… we shall let future Kyle worry about it 😅😅😅
If you guys have a Ferguson showroom in your area, you should definitely go there for your appliances.
I have the new cast iron porcelain farmhouse sink, I tub and I love it!
Can wait to see it finished
Me too!!!
We are also getting ready to do our kitchen and the Taj Mahal is on my shortlist. 🙂 You guys are too cute and I'm looking forward to seeing your renovation!
Ahh yay! We just adore the Taj Mahal!!!
I love my granite it will always be in style
I had to pause and comment....our home had water damage due to a storm in 2021. Our entire house was under renovation and still is. I LOVED Taj Mahal BUT budget was no where near the costs. We ended up with Quartz. It does scratch if you're not careful and an air fryer caused a crack in one piece of ours. Not a huge fan but love the look and much more durable than marble. We have the large , deep under mount sink with the drain on one side towards the back. We LOVE this feature. It gives you so much more usable space in a large sink. My best advice on choosing your slabs....put the required down payment as soon as you decide what you like. The costs of our 2 slabs went up over $1000 because we did not know we needed to do this in order to guard against a price increase. Also, stay on top of your contractor and their subs!😊
Omgsh! That’s terrible it cracked! So sorry that happened! And thanks for the insight on the sink! Super helpful!
If this is most likely your forever home, go with the one you love the most. Remember, you can never un-see the one you both loved … every time you look at the countertop, you don’t want to be wishing that you had got your favourite one. Good luck with the decision though. 😘. Oh and I vote rounded corners in the sink … far easier to clean.
Omgsh so true… nothing else has compared or got us as excited! Haha
I love all the white ones 😍 they others I think age a home
