Morcheeba - Sydney - March 14 2024

The audience was hyped-up (maybe a little too much with all the excited voices in the air), Morcheeba was back in Sydney for another sell out show. And the band seemed to be pretty happy to be back too. Skye was as beautiful as ever and Ross’ guitar playing outstanding. They played 16 career spanning songs. I recorded seven, not necessarily their best known, but an interesting selection I think:

The band invited Moody, the support act, on stage to add a little trumpet to “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day”, which was a lovely touch.
In 2022 when I first saw Morcheeba, I was blown away by Skye’s incredible vocals which soared above the music. Unfortunately, my video from that performance, right at the front, failed to capture her wonderful voice. This time I decided to sit further back where my recording devices would pick up a much better sound mix. However, while my recorder did a good job, the venue let me down. Skye’s singing was frequently buried by the instruments, never able to reach the heights that I remembered from the previous concert. Even when speaking, it was often difficult to hear all she was saying. That disappointment aside, it was still an amazing concert. Ross and the band sounded great, of course, and I got to appreciate the wonderful lighting, which you never see from up the front. Skye’s beautiful personality did shine through, and her singing, despite my criticism of the sound mix, was still exceptionally good; a real joy.

Thanks for commenting. The sound mix was a little disappointing. I really would have like to have heard Skye's voice a little clearer. But otherwise a great night.

Not sure how often it gets played live. I'd checked out the setlist from the concert before this show and it was listed as 'unknown'. That made me keen to record it (whatever it was). Very glad I did. It's a lovely live performance. It did take me a little while to track down its title. Thankfully, Google recognised some of the lyrics. Thanks for commenting.
