The Human League - Sydney - March 8 2024

- Another fabulous night of 80s’ nostalgia. This time with The Human League performing their 1981 album ‘Dare!’ in full, plus a handful of their other best known songs, a total of 19 tracks. It was terrific getting the opportunity to hear some of those songs which are rarely played live. Here are my seven picks:
The Lebanon (00:06)
The Things That Dreams Are Made Of (04:24)
Open Your Heart (08:34)
I Am the Law (12:46)
Seconds (16:53)
Don't You Want Me (21:54)
Being Boiled (25:52)
As usual with bands that are playing songs 40+ years old, I was a little apprehensive about just how well they’d be performed. But The Human League did an excellent job of reproducing the original sound. Philip Oakey’s voice has barely changed at all. Any problems with my sound recording (and there is some distortion) is entirely as a result of where I was standing, against the barrier and not far from a speaker. The worst place in any venue for good sound quality. Still, it turned out better than I feared it would.
It was a wonderful night reliving some of the biggest hits of the early 80s. Everyone on stage was continually smiling and seemed to be having a great time. And the constant costume changes were an added bit of fun. What with Devo a few months ago, and now The Human League, I’m going to be expecting more from musicians' wardrobes in future. - Hudba

Phil's voice is as strong as ever. Superb!
I was very pleasantly surprised just how good he still sounds. My recorded sound really doesn't do him justice.
yes it's just as off-tune 😁 which has always been endearing
i disagree. have been going to see them live for many years and now he seems to be struggling. Just shouting the words through the mic. Not great.
@@user-sf7kl9uh7k I couldn't tell any different (not a hater, I owned their CD's back in the day)
@@uncle-pete You must have lost them.
I was there, front row. It was a magical night, I felt 20 years old again 🎉! Phil, Joanne and Susan sounded fantastic. I hope they come back again soon. Thank you for the video
Yes, a terrific night that took so many of us back to our younger days. Thanks for commenting.
I was there too… probably just to the right of where the camera was, 3 from the barrier - awesome night!
I am waiting for to see them "on live "since from more than 30 years !!! And my dreams will realize in November ,in Utrecht !!! This is my Number One since from hearing "Dare" at the beginning of 80's ! !!!!
Class act. I remember buying the album as a young lad in 1981. Simpler but better times.
Hate to sound like the boomer that I am, but you are right, they were better times - most definitely musically.
@@Peter_LiveMusicThe early 90's were much better.
@@user-sf7kl9uh7k Sorry, but musically the 90's were an enormous letdown. A few good bands but very bland by comparison to the previous decades. Of course, it all depends on your age and when you first began to seriously listen to music.
@@Peter_LiveMusic I'm into indy rock, grunge, punk, Jazz Rock. The 80's had some great bands but also a lot of sxxt, 90-95 was good.
@@Peter_LiveMusic👍🙂❤ Полностью согласен с твоим мнением.
Why am I going all tingly and nostalgic? Takes me back to carefree times with no stress. 😊
I just came from watching the 1981 video Open Your Heart and they sill sound the same. Phil's voice still so strong and he's getting close to 70 years old. Amazing.
Yes, when I'm seeing a band from the 80s, I always make allowances for the vocalist's voice. But I needn't have bothered with Phil. He still sounds terrific. And my video doesn't do justice to just how good he sounded on the night.
Watching "Seconds" remembering when DARE came out....this is so emotional I am crying...because this song is SO damn powerful!!😞❤🩹🎵YYZ Toronto.
Class is permanent
They still sound great. Love the fact they still perform.
Amazing they still sound this good in 2024 👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
It's awful
Great stuff.....they haven't lost it!!!!!!
I was really pleased just how good they still sound. A terrific performance.
I have seen them two times in Germany over the last years. The show is awesome. They have class and glamour, changing costumes the whole evening, great Projection and incredible sound.
This Video is fine but you cant Imagine how it really feels when Being Boiled starts and the Synth just blows you away. Standing there with goosebumps caused by the enormous sound and wondering about your emotions changing from laughing to crying and back . Hopefully we will get an official Tour Bluray soon. ❤
Yes, an amazing performance. But I'm not sure ever an offical Bluray would capture that deep booming at the beginning of "Being Boiled". You have to be there to experience that.
Don't you want me baby is the epitome of 80,s music which stands the test of time, still sounds as fresh today as it did when it first came out. 😊
Bin seit Anfang der 80'er Jahre Fan von dieser großartigen Band . The Human League ist eine Legende . Und der Gesang ist noch wie damals fantastisch . Klasse Live Performance auch im Jahre 2024.
Unusual for a band entering their fifth decade as performers to sound so on it and to so clearly still love what they're doing. That enthusiasm and energy really feeds into the crowd enjoyment. Phil must have lived a clean life to preserve his voice to this standard, he sounds excellent. Great show and professional-level recording. Great job.
I rewatched the video yesterday and was impressed with the fun and enthusiasm going on both with the band and the audience. It was a great night. Thanks for commenting.
They still sound great
Philip Oakey’s voice is not much different Vs 40 years ago. I didn't even know they were in Australia. Thanks for posting
It's amazing how little his voice has changed. The shows right around the country sold out very quickly. Thanks for commenting.
Danced to the music of the Human League in 1983. Still dancing to it, 2024.....
I was there the other night AND BOY WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE..... it was a must see concert - thanks for posting this
Yes, a terrific night !!

Sounding as good as they did in the 80s superb, The ladies are lookin in good fettle to for 60 ish,
Brilliant band Live
Sound of the Crowd
Outstanding
A great night.
So glad I went.
I am really glad to see this. I have seen The Human League twice. For the first time in Newport, South Wales, UK in 2008 (where they opned with 'Seconds' and Phil was wearing a black coat and hoodie) and at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011 for the Credo album tour. Lots of love and greetings from India.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm always pleased when people living in countries that don't get many large tours get to see their favourite bands. CZcams is very good for that. Thanks for commenting.
@@Peter_LiveMusic Yes absolutely. You are quite right. We don't get such tours over here although the scenario has been changing a bit here in the past decade or so. However, post-punk and synth pop acts go off the radar here and it's the more mainstream chart topping pop and rock acts that continue to make the bill here... I think it is possibly also because there are so many other local distractions and film music as well. Unless, there are real pop-rock culture and musos who dig deep into the alternative scene, you wouldn't be surprised if very few of them even heard of such classic acts like The Human League or The Cure.
Thank you for sharing...they all sound amazing...taking me back to my teens...can't wait to see them live in UK in December...
Thanks for sharing….takes me back to the 80’s…best days of my life 😊

Its great to see these bands touring the world saw the original Dare tour in the early 80s at Birmingham Odeon Brings back happy memories
They still sound great 👍
Yes, I love the clothes too!
Sounds great. Thanks for recording this for us all.

Hello from Toronto!! They all looking amazing! Phil is badass, beautiful voice( some things never change) DARE is an amazing album, brings back so many memories, my album is warped(lol) 80's rule! The best times, the best memories!♥🎵🎹
Absolutely love Seconds.
Yes, it's a great song and they did a terrific live version.
@Peter_LiveMusic , had tickets for Wednesday night at Enmore but unfortunately I had to sell them. Dare, one of the great great albums
@@mheppell4685 Sorry to hear you can't make it. Hopefully, you'll get another chance to see them in the future.
Can’t wait for the weekend to start in Perth, going to both shows! Whoo hoo! These are the things that dreams are made of! ❤️❤️❤️
How were the shows?
Awesome video of an awesome band, thank you for sharing 😊🙌🙏✌️❤️🇦🇺
I adored DARE and Love And Dancing as a kid.
Seen them a few time overvthe last ten years.
Never disappoint.
Love Phil and the band ❤
Thanks for uploading
That is pretty impressive. I wasn't expecting much to be honest. They sound great!
Yes, I was a little worried about how good they'd sound. But they were surprisingly very good. My video sound is a little distorted. They actually sound much better. Definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.
Absolutely brilliant footage. Thanks so much. Waiting patiently to see them in Manchester England. Xx
Thanks for your kind words - much appreciated. I know you'll have a wonderful night in Manchester. Thanks for commenting.
@dawnmorris8162
I hope there are still tickets available? I was a bit too young to see them when Dare came out (10!!) God I played the arse out of that album - I worshipped it! I liked a few of their songs after Dare but I kinda moved on to other bands by the time I was old enough to go gigging. I would love to see them now - watching this has reminded me how good they were and are! I liked Travelog and Reproduction too so Being Boiled is an extra treat! 😊❤✌
The human legends 👍😎🥳Brilliant 💕
They were excellent in Adelaide on Monday night too. Super impressed with Phil's voice. Thanks for sharing. We were on almost the exact same position!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Adelaide show. So good to see them live again. Thanks for commenting.
Brilliant in Brisbane too ❤
I am going to watch Human League December 2024 in Manchester AO ARENA tickets booked 😊
Coisa mais linda rever o nosso passado maravilhoso 🤩
Visually, a great vantage point. They look and sound amazing.
I don't usually get right up front these days, but yes, you are right, visually the best place to be. And they were amazing.
Great footage that we'll done greetings from Newcastle United Kingdom 🇬🇧 😊🙏

Hello from Vietnam 🫶🏻 Gen Z but deeply in love with The Human League and the 80s. Wish I could have a chance to see them Live for once in my life 😢 ❤
Hope your wish comes true. You need to take an extended holiday in the UK and catch as many 80 bands as you can while you're there. I'd love to see Heaven 17 but they don't seem to leave the UK these days. We can both dream.
Saw the same show in Adelaide. Fantastic! Took me back to being 16 with headphones in my bedroom. Now a few days later so many ear worms! Great quality, both sound and video. Thanks for posting.
I don’t remember being at ANY show where the stereo separation was so good. The drums in particular. The sound techs did a good job that night.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Adelaide show. Yes, took me back many decades also. Yes, it certainly sounded good. The three guys up the back probably deserve more credit for the performance. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for posting this. I was there up in the circle. Still loved it . Was so loud😊.
Dare was one of the first albums I owned.
Yes, loud where I was too which is why I'm surprised my sound turned out as well as it did. Some distortion has crept in but not as much as I feared. It was a terrific show. Thanks for commenting.
We were at this show, upstairs way up the back & we had the best time. They were fantastic. Thanks for sharing ❤
I normally try to be a little further back as the sound is usually not the best right at the front. But the difference in ticket prices made going GA the best option for my budget. A terrific night. Thanks for commenting.
Well Done 👍 Fantastic Show!, Brought back some Great memories, & Times of a Better World!!.
Many Thanks 💯✅👌👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Great opening song! Impossible to stay seated during "The Lebanon."
Excellent Job ..Thanks for the upload ..Yes ..I couldnt fault them in Adelaide ..Superb , Phil's voice was astounding ..the sound and visuals were also amazing ..loved the Pacman and Tron visuals..

Being boiled was beyond description! Visual and sound overload!
@@erikthewonderdog6522 Definitely one of the night's highlights.
You've done a great service uploading this Peter. Thank you.
I love Being boiled. Such a fantastic tune.
Circus of Death on the the B side was brilliant. I can feel the cover of the sleeve and smell the vinyl now.❤
Thanks for your effort in recording Human Leeague and posting on CZcams. You certainly had a great location to video most of their songs, and showing Phils talent. Keep recording and posting them. Cheers.
Omg I would love to see
The whole performance! Thank you!
Everyone at school bought Dare. It was just a massive album,1982 I think. Still rocking in their 60s❤❤❤❤
Thank you from Italy
Seen them only in 1982 Milano...😢

They sound phenomenal!
Couldn't make it there on the night . Thanks for sharing.
Sorry you couldn't get there. Sadly, my video captures only a tiny fraction of how good the performance was. But I'm glad I could provide you with a least a glimpse. Hopefully, they'll be back and you'll be able to see them then.
Seeing them in november in Stockholm, can´t wait!!
Seen them before brilliant ❤

I was crestfallen to find I was in England when the Enmore show was on . This footage has helped me get over the trauma ( thx)👍
Sorry to hear you missed them. Thanks for commenting.
Beautiful ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I saw them at the Palais in Melbourne in 1982. Great to see them still out there expressing themselves and having fun.
AWESOME 👌 👏 👍 😍
Very cool. Been a fan of the band since 1981.
Brilliant footage.
Thanks. I wish the sound was a little better but I was standing far too close to a speak not to expect some distortion. Thanks for commenting.
I've been in the same spot at the Enmore for Duran Duran and Gary Numan. Nothing beats being close to the band on the floor.@@Peter_LiveMusic
@@jdimech In the moment definitely. And visually, by far the best place to video. But sound-wise it's crap. Nothing worse than coming home from an outstanding performance, putting the video on and the sound is atrocious. Thankfully, this time it's not too bad. So if you're not videoing, I certainly agree with you.
Timeless
Thanks Peter for the videos. I was also there just to the right of you… a fantastic night!
👍 Hope the video brought back memories for you. Thanks for commenting.
Fantastic
Los escucho y me remonto a la epoca de cuando daban El Tunel Del Tiempo o Viaje Al Fondo del Mar.
Que chingona Banda y que chingon verlos hoy aun 🖤
Todavía suena muy bueno.

Que nivel !!
Thankfully a great vocalist who still has a great range in his voice. Love this, Great band still
Wow! Still great ! 👍🏾
Nice to see them all in their 60s still singing and on stage.
And with the aid of auto tune 👍👍🤘🤘
Dare is one of the most important LPs ever made, Sublime electronic music at its perfect best.
Brazil loves them!🎶🎶🎶❤❤❤
So sad I missed them this week.
I take my hat off to them. Still doing it in 2024 when modern music is devoid of the spirit & joy The Human League & many 80's artists gave us back in the day 🙇🏽
Better times back then for sure. We always look back with rose tainted spectacles but they really were good times to grow up in, mind you we were in the flush of youth back then and not old codgers like today. 😢
@@kevinadamson5768 "Old codger" you speak for yourself mate, you're as old as you feel & I feel like eh, an old codger 😂. That Dare album is a masterpiece though. I can remember when Open Your Heart took over me, the way it just kept on rising was amazing.
