- In this Warhammer basing tutorial I am going to show you how to paint a ruined temple base like this amazing resin base by Micro Art Studios. More specifically, I will cover the process in 3 parts: Part 1, Basecoating; Part 2: Secondary Colors, and Part 3: Weathering. Towards the end, I will also share what I consider the lessons I learnt from this project.
So, if you’re looking for a step by step tutorial on how to paint scenic bases or how to apply pigments to your bases, among other things, this miniature basing tutorial is for you!

Two models, in a Custodes army? You're halfway to a full force!
Hahah, indeed! Trouble is, I have to paint FOUR infantry models for a game this weekend - and I hate doing infantry! 😂
Very nice. I agree that time invested in bases is never wasted. Good looking and fitting bases really elevate any model and in addition the full army.
Thank you, mein Freund. Yes, I think bases can become part of the same narrative.
A nicely done base is a strong foundation for any model!
Indeed! 👍
terrific base sculpts (not convinced about the candles but...) and beautifully painted - really effective but simple scheme, very helpful to any of us wanting to do such things, thanks
Heheh, thank you, Rick! I must say I thought the same about the candles - what I missed was having some kind of (corroded) metal parts instead.
beautiful models need beautiful bases
Thanks, Amy!
Awesome finished look on the base and the miniature! I love building bases from scratch and posing the miniature more than painting tbh, it sets the scene and tells a story. Problem is, I'm doing that for ALL my Grey Knights, so it's taking a while 😅🤦♂️ keep up the good work! 👍
Thanks a lot, Knight! Yeah, it can be a lot of work for infantry- or dread-heavy armies…have fun and thanks again!
If you dont know how to use an airbrush can these techniques still be used?
Hi Jack, all the weathering techniques can, which is really the crux of it - that is why my tutorials are divided into clear steps. Have fun with your bases!
