I absolutely adore basing and it’s probably the biggest blindspot that most mini painters have that really separates good from great models. I would love to see even more in depth videos on basing from you again
Gotta say, I really miss your good old basing videos. Very sad you don't make them anymore.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays from Japan. I will be helping my 6 year old son base his first minis this year! Thanks for the vid!
The more I expand my tool box, the more I enjoy basing. All the pastes and "base ready" stuff are game changers!
EOB is all about that base. Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
I use grass to mostly hide my mistakes, and it works great. I miss the old green standard, and am excited for square bases to make its triumphant return.
I would argue the final base in the video you say is your least favorite is actually the one of more realistic bases. For a dirt mound it has a perfect size and shape for a fellow to be crawling over it. The dirt looks like its shifting and and displacing from is desperate crawling. Great video thanks for the tips!
13:28 as a kind of sniper setting it works, it sells the stealth story well IMO, maybe it is the colors of the base?
I personally find basing an absolute chore. I can never get it to look right. I think most of my bases are just there because models have to have bases. I never like the colors I choose. Often I just do it to have it done. If you are basing for an army, it has to be repeatable but also interesting, but if I don't spend a lot of time making sure the base looks right before repeating I'm sitting with a ton of bases that are just... okay. I really hate how 90% of my bases look.
Use clear transparent acrylic bases!
Quite the opposite for me
Sounds like you should swap over to clear bases my guy
@@harrybrass734 Clear bases can't be magnetized, that's the main issue. Unless you want to see a frosted piece of superglue and a magnet under your mini.
@@Rd0Lg clear uv resin doesn't cloud
I just want to comment your painting has improved so much over the last few years.
Perfectly timed, I just got the starter box for christmas and this will help me base alot!
For basing, I default to using molded bases like the void war bases GW makes(but 3d prints or 3rd party because it's hard justifying GW prices for some bases)
Ok firstly amazing video as per usual! But for the love of god! Please do a tutorial on how you photograph your minis, and what you use.
Thanks for showing a base that you thought could have been better and why.... really helpful in critiquing my own bases!
6th and although Christmas ends in 2 hours here in Australia, merry Christmas all ! 🎄🍻🎉❤️
Just started in uk my convict commonwelth brother
Merry Christmas EOB. Jay, pleeeeeeeaaasseee do an updated showcase of your black templar, we haven't got to see your new repulsor + hellblasters!
The Green bases on a green felt (grass) table made WAY more obvious sense when Old World Fantasy was THE game... growing out of the existing historical game genre.
I really really like this video. It really really gives me inspiration to really focus on basing.
For real though love the vid and happy holidays!
I *love* this video!! I came to EOB with the basing tutorials. I adore the channel you’ve created but miss the “lava basing, easy breezy beautiful” vids!
Y’all have such amazing art theory behind your decisions and these deep dives are so inspiring for me!!
Thanks fellas, and thanks so much for all the dope content!!!
Great video! Would love to see Zombicide being painted up!
I regularly make my own base, out of resin. I hide neodymium magnets inside to help keep things stable.
A silicone mould and resin base is super easy to make .
Nice variety and really shows how the base can transform a miniature.
Love your work
Nothing beats a good ol plain black base
I like seeing your “high level” work. Been enjoying seeing you speed paint or batch paint stuff, but these are amazing paint jobs! Just awesome skill.
Merry Christmas!
My bases are still Goblin green! Those neon-green base rims are gorgeous! They make miniatures look perfectly on green grass tables, no matter what is on the bases. Flock may be anything else: dark grass or stones, even sand or snow. But green rim is something like dogma.
I love the genestealer base ! The pigments and unicolor makes me feel like there is a dusty mist hovering over the base !
I got excited we might have an EOB Christmas episode! Maybe next year!
I’ve always based my miniatures to tell a story. Recently I’ve started a Custodes army, and because my tyranids are golden due to a bio-mutation after they ate some Custodes’ armor, these Custodes are touching down on a purple, desolated planet, investigating their missing Custodes battle brothers.
My sisters of battle are fighting in a temple overgrown with flowers and moss.
My tyranids are running across grassy plains, assaulting a planet that I imagine to be like Naboo from Star Wars.

@doubletime9098 You're watching a video on painting, so you are also a nerd.
@@doubletime9098 Someone is just talking about something that makes them happy. Whats wrong with that. We all make up little stories why is it bad to tell them
@@doubletime9098I do not understand why you felt the need to post a bunch of nerd emojis in response to someone, who’s comment literally doesn’t effect you in the slightest. I’m sorry you have nothing better to do with your life that you feel the need to be rude to random people online. Please get a hobby. Maybe warhammer! It’s good fun :)
I've only just started Warhammer and your videos help and are definitely a great source of inspiration and makes me want to improve :)
I don't suppose there is any chance you can describe how you did the base on the Tau? I think that has to be one of the best bases I've seen and i love it. I'm currently trying to do a alien jungle base theme for my Tyranids.
Merry Christmas Jay!
Merry Christmas Jay and Nick!
Love a good basing videos. Cheers EoB
Happy Holidays Jay
Merry Christmas jay, nick and Shaun
I just started trying different colors than black around, primarily for MESBG. To help differentiate the armies
I am lazy when it comes to bases. If I want mud, or sand I just use GW basing for it. Snow? Snow texture on top of mud. Grass? First glue on basing sand to give some variety of angles for the flock to stick to. Add in a flower/grass/shrub to your base, or a rock or something to give some verticality and you have a good enough base. Bonus, if you are using mud or sand or snow you can cheat on tank tracks and wheels. Just cover them in the basing material as though they were traveling through it for some time.
For my ultramarines I use some white rocks mixed with green turf and cover the base completely. With a black rim. For my guard I used a rocky mix that kind of looks like concrete and then I build up rock mounds. For my knights I use a Marian like mud below them with a bunch of debris soaking into the mud.
Did you do a tutorial on that vampire model ? It's stunning! Would love to see how you blended and what colors you used.
Merry Christmas!!
Bring back basing tutorials!! Show me how to use my epic basing bits to full effect lol
Great thoughts on basing. I do have to say I like the Genestealer Cult sniper you did, because the base sells a sniper vibe of "getting high ground" and "hiding with the terrain" if that makes sense.
I cant unsee how high that desk is now
have a great Christmas and new year to all at eons.. miss the live streams..
Merry Christmas 😊
5:30 Can we get a tutorial on how to do that 80s metal album sword look? Could you show how to do that on different weapons, like swords, axes, and decorated Necron pikes? Maybe a whole Necron in that style?
Thanks for getting me into the hobby!
I have been summoned by the mention of Yu-Gi-Oh! Vampire Lord my beloved
I’m just about to start basing my first minis. I have white scars and I want to create a similar base to the Mongolian steppes but not 100% how to do it or where to look for tips. Any ideas, recommendations or tips would be appreciated 👍🏼
Loving your content right now. Just a quick hint though: the ‘a’ in miniatures is silent.
Merry Christmas guys!
Merry Christmas
Merry Khornemas!!!!
Merry xmas J 😁🎉
Figuring out a basing scheme has become one of my favorite things when painting. It truly separates my armies/projects for each other and gives an opportunity to try new techniques. I do have a friend who couldn’t care less about basing and just slaps on some texture paint and leaves it like that, but then again he spends a lot more time painting the models. Each to their own 🤷♂️
Could you please, please, PLEASE do a tutorial video on what you are doing for your Black Templar bases, now? Like the one at 5:25? It looks way different from the original BT basing tutorial you had and it's exactly what I want to do for the bases in the BT army that I'm starting. Thanks!
I luv basing me ogryns
I want to say thank you for getting me into this hobby I have just finished basing and assembling a brutalis dread and your videos are a huge inspiration for me. And very motivational Keep up the awesome work.
Can you use poster paint for Warhammer miniature
I am still very much uninitiated when it comes to basing. The most I've done is slapping on some martian ironearth but otherwise I either haven't done anything with the base after painting the mini, or I paint the base black
"10 years ago every mini was on a Goblin Green base"
Uh, 10 years was 2014, that was during 6-7th edition of warhammer 40k
So I just got into 40K with the ultimate starter box set and was wondering what would be a good group to paint my space marines I was planning on the salamanders but it didn’t come with any of the transfers for them
"Like ten years ago, all bases were goblin green!"
Hate to say it, but it was more like 30 years ago. Again, I apologize for making y'all feel your age.
It feels like 10 years to me dammit. 😂
Target is selling "new" minis, could you do a review/ how to on them?
goblin green 10 years ago? I think you need to double that number
I made obsidian bases for my quins they are very basic but i love em
Where did you get your apron?
Can you please make another basing video on the templar one? I cant seem to replicate it
Yellow line down middle, white on sides. But great model.
Jay when u said the vampire was based on a yugioh card I actually had to look at the mini for a sec and I was like that looks like cork not a yugioh card before I got what u meant anyway merry Christmas from Cali
the green grass tufts are the problem in the gsc mini
10 years ago there was not so mutch of the goblin green basing, that was more so 20+ years ago. You know, the 1990.
My tyranid army is just steel legion drab with agrellen earth but my space wolves are a bit more witb stirkland mud, some pepbbles as rocks and then any snow I have, mix if gw and army painter. My kill teams are a bit more detailed as im not doing a full army
0:14 very health long nails. Any plans to paint them?
I like that GSC base tbh
i actually really like how odd the last one looks it really gives it a very unique feel reminds me of mutant year zero
I think your Jean steeler called sniper base. It's kind of perfect cause. He's a sniper trying to hide so he doesn't want to be seen if you see it that way
Jean Steeler is too much 😂
There was one time when we tried a drinking game. Everytime the Word "really" comes up... you gotta do a shot... brought us all a 2 day hangover, After about 18min gametime 😂😂😂 ... Just kidding. Really, REALLY enjoy your content. ❤
What is the new Hamster of gut Master
Do you think you can build my bane blade
Geek Gaming Scenics basing material FTW
My entire deathwatch is goblin green. I love it
for a beginner whats the best army or model to get
Get whatever you like the look of and feel inspired to work on.
I might be among the worst to base cause I always wanna put base and miniatur together when it comes to colors... Camo kinda needs it.
what's funny is my iconward is on a rock, but most of my minis aren't
great bases, except the first one :D
I like how he now sit's a little bit higher.
Please put that genestealer sniper on a Green Goblin glider instead. He's perfect for it
I took a shot for every time Jay said actually, I am now an alcoholic.
10 years ago? More like 30 years ago, buddy. The poopy brown became standard for GW back in the early 2000s.
Basing is my favorite part to create but my least favorite to paint
should i tower cork no my ultramrenes
Basing. The part to complete your minis
I have some old pots of Goblin Green... That is not Goblin Green. 😅
I personally disagree that your "worst" base looks bad. I think it looks great! Of course he is out of place and small, he is a mutant sniper
1. Use stealth suits
2. Paint them in vibrant colours
3. ???
4. Profit
I will keep painting the base brown, black for the border, and nothing more... Yes I'm reckless
I decided to just use citadel astro granite on every base i will ever do all my battles are fought on an ashy mud surface if it isnt there thematically its stuck to my guys shoes and came with em
jay paints 30 genestealers
Assembling my first space marine (as well as first miniature) ever as I’m watching this, good times, following GW instructions to the letter just to make sure I do all the mistakes early on (snip as close to the model as possible my a**) - this should be interesting …
