    Just one thing to note is that you should bake the wood in the oven to make sure it's dry and that way it won't create black mold.

    I find that you not only set the bar for painting miniatures, but also for basing. I've learned so much from you, my brother. I'm more into foam buildings, along with basing, for miniatures. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your instruction. -Rick, USMC

    Nothing says Grimdark like black gloves and a dozuki saw out in nature hacking away at tree roots. Fantastic video, excellent as always.

    This could not have been timed any better for me - I just nabbed some roots off a downed tree at a construction site near my house, it's amazing how great they look as to scale trees. Excellent work as always man!

    My answer for your question: I think it's a typical mistake when people use too much of the last layer (e.g. snow effect) and cover all the other layers. It's also more expensive to make and the base is not varied enough even though there are several materials underneath each other.

    I've been toying with the grimdark style because I prefer the more gritty look to it and you've got me painting my first mini in the style.
    One thing I wanted to ask though is how would you go about varnishing the finished miniature? Would it not effect the varying degrees of matt/satin look to the mini?

    • @GrimdarkCompendium

      Use Paver Base with pva. I just used the mud in this video for texture and to fill the gaps between the bigger pieces of paver base.

    A few months is not that long for a 40k base to survive. Have you used the moss in other older projects? I know the wood is good for an insanely long time. Once it dries out that's all the change it will do.

      @GrimdarkCompendium  Před 2 lety +1

      There certain types of moss that last for a very long time. Like the little green moss that looks like twigs last.

  • @richestmanintatooine7131

    This is nothing new, it is funny to present it like that and it looked bad at the end. Why would a miniature painter think of the base first?

    • @GrimdarkCompendium
      @GrimdarkCompendium  Před 2 lety +1

      Since my work primarily involes weathering and distressing, I teach environment first to set the ground work for those weathering recipes. A lot of people ask me how to weather this or that and I always respond with "what environment are they in?" Environment dictates everything. Literally.
