    Can't wait to try growing in yarn!!

    Very innovative! I was naturally moving in this direction and going to try yarn today. Growing materials are expensive, especially if there’s shipping involved. In my area, it’s hit and miss for buying growing medium. I’ve also noticed that the bags of soil aren’t what they used to be decades ago. Just rediscovered plants again.

      I hear you. We don’t always get the quality we’re expecting, especially locally. Excited for you to try it!!!! 😃😃😃🌱🪴

    Hi do you have a video about after you’ve struck the cutting and how you pot it up? Interested to see hire they go once planted and what medium you use. Very cool videos so thanks for that. Going to try today🌿🌿🌿

      Hello there. I don't usually pot up my plants in soil anymore. Soil growing has given me challenges in my grow space. Now I either keep them in semi hydro, yarn culture or water culture. They always head down hill at some point in soil... maybe the stagnant air or something else in my growing environment.

    It just occurred to me that yarn is such an inexpensive medium compared to the synthetic spag moss which I checked out recently and would not be bothered with it. What a great idea you’ve come up with. I love it, well done!

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 lety

      That’s exactly what I thought. It’s like synthic but cheaper and nicer looking. So far I’ve been having great results for many months with all kinds of plants. Thank you so much for your comment and for tuning in! 😃😃😃

    I was looking for a medium similar to sphagnum moss and thought "hey yarn looks like moss" and here I am on your youtube watching your video that confirms it will indeed work

    What a fabulous idea - I will try it too, I have tons of yarn and I can easily obtain some more.
    Care to do an update like: rowing in yarn 1 year later...? (pretty please)

    Have you grown begonias in the acrylic yarn? How about larger plants like monstera albo?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I’ve grown begonias (Rex and Cane) in acrylic, as well as Philo Pink Princess, a larger columnea species and a bunch of others. 😃 I’m going to try my hand at Monstera probably soon. They do well in water, so why not in Acrylic yarn. 🧶 😃

      Awesome thanks. I watched a bunch of your content today after asking and I actually just put a tiny pink princess prop I had in water into the yarn method. Fingers crossed even though I don’t need another pink princess lol. I’m making chains now to experiment on some syngonium I don’t need more of either 😂.

      @@valerieskillman2934 it’s fun right? That’s a great way to test the waters. Something you don’t really need to I started with coleus and Rex begonias. Now I have Hoyas, Pothos, peperomia, succulents and so many others in the yarn. Yay!!! Keep me posted on how it goes.

    • @valerieskillman2934
      @valerieskillman2934 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Will do! Yup I figured I start with low value plants before throwing an albo or Thai constellation into a ball of yarn. It is fun and it makes me look more grandmotherly haha.

    Do you ever have problems with algae? If so, how do you deal with it?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 6 měsíci

      I get algae for sure. I either clean it out every few weeks or I add hydrogen peroxide to the water. Definitely helps. 😃👍🏼

    Learning from your videos. Wondering,, because AV's like to be "hugged" in their Pots, should I stay with the 4" Pot with the Yarn or should, can, the container now be smaller not using soil?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 lety +1

      I’ve been able to use smaller containers as long as it does t dry out completely. They don’t mind being root bound, as long as they have nutrients. 😃🌱👍🏼🌸

    Do you just leave them in the yarn or do you eventually switch to soil after a few months?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 lety

      The experiment started as just for propagation. After that I placed some difficult plants and sick/recovering plants in it and thrived and grew faster than in my other semi-hydro setups. At this point I’m keeping the plants there unless/until there’s any issue. But so far so good. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
