Honestly, my favorite thing about the "what fossil did he pick?" bit is the fact that you actually record it each time instead of just having 1 for each game and slotting it in.

The text glitch doesn't exactly use the second type, it's even funnier: the game program has a list of every type matchup that doesn't do neutral damage, and goes through one by one whenever an attack is used. Is it a water move against a fire type? If yes, multiply damage by 2 and change the text to "It's super effective". Is it a fire move against a grass type? if yes-- you get the idea. The game goes through that entire list of type matchups and keeps the text of the last one that applies

I thought it was the first one. Also the ai uses it too. Erica uses poison powder on ivysaur because poison on grass is before poison on poison, so the ai belives poison is super effective on ivysaur.

Audino actually gets really good coverage, so a lot of the run might actually be really easy. Marshall is 100% a brick wall though.

The bug thing is fun, since it also has one of the only attacks that isn't poison type that can inflict poison. So it was a way to poison steel types in gen 2.

At this point blane knows you’re trying to do a challenge run, so he throws his fights so you don’t have to grind for him. Tho this time he must’ve wanted to prove to you that he isn’t bad, he’s just throwing 😂

@@MahDryBread Shiny Tentacool is palish blue green, and the body is a lighter tint; One of my more favorite Gen 1 Shinies as Tentacruel.

@MahDryBread Not sure if someone else has suggested this, but if you do the rare candy glitch, you can sell them for lots of money, erasing the need for wasting time playing the mini game. Since people don't mind you using them for leveling up, maybe this could be a short cut as well? All the best, and thanks for all your work!

Can you Beat Oblivion, Poison only run?
The rules are pretty simple:
- you can only use Poison as a means of dealing damage
- when using alchemy, you can only make poison
of course, you can add rules as you see fit
As usually, I'm writing this before you ever did the challenge

Giovanni uses guard spec not dire hit
you got me thinking with that gym leader AI ranking, and i gotta say that the top 3 most dumb is definetly Blaine, Giovanni and then possibly LT. Surge, in that order. Using thundershock instead of thunderbolt is kinda silly but at least Surge is still TRYING to attack you, instead of spamming dire hits. I don't know how the other ones would stack up since you usually end up sweeping them, but i gotta say that if brock didnt have bide, he would definetly be one of the most intelligent.
I actually wonder if the rival having Bulbasaur is actually the easiest choice against Tentacool, since Grass is Neutral against it and the other options have Exeggutor. I have no idea if Exeggutor would be the harder choice against Tentacool, but that was just a thought I had.
Yeah honestly I could see Blastoise being the tougher fight

This looked like a lot of fun! I don’t really use the Poison types much because the type effectiveness confuses me, so it's nice to see what someone who knows what they're doing can do with them. And that bit with the Meowth? Pure gold.

Paused when he first gets to the Elite Four since I'm not sure if he ever realizes that Tentacool could learn a super effective move for Lorelei...though knowing that he was trying to build up money to buy Substitute, he probably sold the TM as soon as he got it.

@@ElGarri-cr2ic Not Giga Drain, Mega Drain, with a base power of 40. A resisted Surf is stronger, though Mega Drain would heal at least.
I'm dumb and somehow forgot to account for Mega Drain being super effective, which would make it much stronger than a resisted Surf. Oops.

As far as the algorithm thing goes, it's good to go through your sub list and open each page individually. CZcams does a thing that if you ignore enough videos from your subscription feed, it stops showing you them.
Saw a couple pages with like 6 months of content I missed.

The moment I saw Tentacool, I knew this one was gonna be easy. *100 base Special* is just absolutely insane for a first-form.
I was wondering what Acid was going to bring to the table over Hydro Pump or Ice Beam until I saw the Lorelei fight. Completely forgot about the potential Lorelei-Rest softlock.
Also week 2 of recommending Victini is Black. That said I’m a Unova fanboy and am excited for Audino too. It’s an iconic Unova Pokemon just for how many you defeat to overcome Gen 5’s experience system.
Also CZcams algorithm’s been good about giving me notification for your channel since I have the bell on. These are my break entertainment on my weekends working.

Well this was a wild run, skipping a lot of trainers with a slow growth rate Pokémon usually comes back to bite you, but you could have probably muscled past Lorelei earlier with swords dance + acid or barrier for badge boosts. Sucks to miss out on the premiers but CZcams is terrible at their job and communication with creators writ large, fingers crossed it works out, you deserve credit the views.
I love when your solo challenges aren’t just well known bad pokemon but also giving a spotlight to relatively forgotten pokemon that can be decent or at least average.
This is the first video of yours that was in my recommended since probably September.

Good run, swords dance - wrap is a good combo on tentacool. Surf/ hydro pump and save the blizzard tm until after loreli, mega drain cloyster. Teach blizzard ,rest, ect. after.

Jokes aside this run gave me an idea for a neat challenge idea: you know how you take a weak Pokémon and level it up super high to try and beat the whole game? Why not flip it on its head and take a really strong Pokémon and see how LOW of a level you can beat the game at? You were kinda halfway there with this strong gen 1 tentacool run, and also your Regigas runs but would be interesting to see you try and beat the game with like an Alakazam gen 1 at lvl 40, or some such nonsense.

And omce again could you do a platinum run with Cynthias team. Its an easy run so long as you can find all the pokemon.

Also looking forward to the Audino run. Been quite the fan of the Pokemon and have seen it go through so many clucth moments in the past. So it'll be interesting to see how well it can handle on its own.
Also I always use the subription tab and not the Home page to see new videos from the people I watch, and don't recall having any other issues. (Not that I dont use the home page, but it's mostly for people im not already subscribed to.) So maybe that would help others as well. But I get that it sucks when CZcams won't recommend the videos people want to watch.

Going into this, I fully expect it to be annoying until after Misty, then kind of a breeze once you get the progression of bubblebeam to ice beam to mega drain to deal with other water types.

Well, whenever you do the premier, it never appeared to me in the notifications, so sometimes I needed to open the channel to watch the pokemon challenge. This one you didn't premiered, it appeared to me normally. If you like premier, go for it, it's not my type of thing, but I'll for sure watch it.

In regard to the video recommendations thing, I know your weekly video will appear, so I just use the bell icon in the upper right to access stuff like yours, which has a simple timeline rather than any AI-generated manner.
It really doesn’t! CZcams for some reason will show me your older videos from like 4 months ago but I have to go to your page to see your new video even though I have been subscribed and had notifications on your page for years!
3:13, 5:00 Acid is "not very effective" on Bug/Poison* Weedle, but is "super effective" on Grass/Poison* Bulbasaur, and Vine Whip is "not very effective" on Water/Poison* Tentacool.
Therefore the *first* type was used for Acid vs Weedle and the *second* type was used for Acid vs Bulbasaur and Vine Whip vs Tentacool.
Therefore the actual rule for what text and sound effect to use looks obscure. For now let's say it makes no sense because it's gen 1.
*The 3 type orders are consistent between Bulbapedia, Serebii and Smogon.
Not quite. There is an order to type checks for moves, see bulbapedia "dual-type damage missinformation" for chart. It doesn't have to do with which type is first but simply which type match up comes last in the chart.

Hey, i have some maybe fun ideas for runs.
Number one would be a Vulpix only run in gen 4. This could be interesting, because it can learn quite a lot. So maybe this will work out well?
Second, for some easy time, you need that as well MDB: an Eeveelution run in gen 4, most interesting would be Platinum. I wonder what you can do with decent Pokémon in a challenge.
Third, i think you might have fun in another team run: "Can i beat Pokémon Silver/Crystal/Gold as Elite 4 Bruno?". Usually you have rarely problems with him. But i kind of have a feeling, in gen 2 this might be weird at several times.
I think for your next gen 1 run a Hitmonchan only run would be cool, and much harder than it seems at first.

I've got an idea for a challenge. Imagine Pokémon Emerald but you can only use recoil moves? Basically, only moves that grant recoil damage can be used. That means that struggle could technically be used if needs be.
