What do you think about this refurbished steam deck from gamestop? Good deal or nah? I wanted to buy a refurbished steam deck from Valve to compare, but unfortunately, as of right now, they are all sold out.

I just added a comment about this, but looking at my PS4 controller the right trigger button is also looser than the left trigger button. I play games where I mash the right trigger button. I bet that's what happened with this steam deck; the original owner was a button masher

Refurbished usually never meant that something is actually replaced. Just general cleaning and software update and checking if everything is working. Heck even smarthphone batteries arent replaced until they are under 80% of their original capacity. You might be right that they saw it as not worth to replace the joysticks. If you are techsavy enough to replace SSD I would recommend absolutely to buy refurbished ones, espacially 64gb and then replace and add 50-100 dollar worth ssd.

Replacing the sticks does take 1 more step Tham what you mentioned. You have to unsolder the touch sensitive wire for the cap, and transfer it to your new module. Meaning, they would have to do soldering. Yes they make ones with new caps, and yes that would cost money. I'm purely referring to GameStop, what they would most likely do, and the fact you got cruddy sticks.

Well you can tell this one was definitely used for FPS games. That's why the right trigger and right thumbstick are more worn down. Those pry marks are just someone straight up not knowing what they're doing. You're supposed to use the curve of the triggers as the entry point for opening it, and then slide the plastic pick from there. Definitely wouldn't ever get anything refurbished from Gamestop.

$410 is a scam when you can get a 64gb verison for $399 or a valve refurbished one for $310

Why? Steam sells refurbished ones themselves starting at $319. Why does anyone buy a steam deck not being sold by steam? They ship in like a week and you can be confident buying. Everywhere else is also for whatever reason more expensive?

having been in steam deck communities for some time, I've noticed a lot of people take the Steam deck apart themselves, to attempt customization, or any other sort of modifications, Its possible that's just how Gamestop received the steam deck.

I opened my 64GB Deck twice, first for a 256GB nvme SSD, then for a 1TB, and if it wasn't for the storage space, no one could tell it was ever opened, even the aluminum tape inside was carefully lifted then placed back, and smooth it out any light wrinkles. And I'm no electronics wizard, just very picky I guess lol

Hot dang, I always thought it was younger than Funcoland AND EB Games, but it’s practically as old as those two?! Man that’s one heck of an interesting piece of trivia there, Speaking as someone that’s been shopping there for nearly HALF that time now!

Yeah, that’s probably why it was looser than the left trigger. And also why the right stick had more drift than the left. Seems like these are things that GameStop should be checking in their process (or at least tell us what the process is)
