I've bought alot of retro stuff from Amazon. The key is to make sure the product is fulfilled by Amazons return policy and to check the review scores. Also make sure its a seller who has a lot of reviews otherwise you could get screwed.
Think it's safe to say you're better off buying locally or ebay if you know who to buy from. Amazon and DK oldies don't show you the actual console you're getting.

I bought a refurbished ps3 back in late 2021 or early 2022 from amazon, and I opened mine up and it was slightly dusty, but it wasn't nasty by any means. After a small cleaning, it was in great condition. Zero scratches... whoever had it before took good care of it! I got it for 150$.

I just got a amazon refurbished gamecube. It showed up today and was shocked its near mint condition. Bummer with you ps3, i was looking at those too.

Av cables are definitely the better option. HDMI cables are so much easier to get (and cheaper).
Huh...? I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. You say one statement then change it to something else. Are AV cables a better option(they aren't) or are HDMI cables better.
@@Aliyah_666 HDMI cables are so much cheaper and easier to get. So if the playstation is sent with the AV cables in my opinion this is better to receive. Hopefully this makes more sense. I can see how my comment could be seen as poorly worded.
I bought a none back compatible PS3 fat mint condition in the original box and 5 games for £50 here in the UK on eBay.....and I love it. Just put a 1 tb SSD in and it runs beautiful. I run my PS2 by the side of it. Virtually the same as having a back compatible PS3 really..
If you jailbreak the ps3 you can ps1&ps2 games on it

Just a little tip: The reason why the BC models died isn't necessarily because of heat, but because of the type of underfill they used in their BGA package. Felix made a really good video on this and I definitely recommend giving it a watch if you're into consoles.

He showed policies stated on what is an amazon returned product, he never showed that his product was purchased or sold by Amazon, or that he purchased it as a Amazon renewed product, he purchased it as a refurbished product, sure yes, and it had that Amazon info sure, but if it's from Amazon - show the viewer that it was sold and shipped by Amazon. Amazon is just like ebay, and any seller can claim it to be an amazon renewed product, simply by titling it so, Amazon is just a platform to sell and buy products. Amazon has its own stores thru its platform to sell its products, but not everything sold on Amazon is sold, or shipped by Amazon.
I literally just got a fantastic E01 on eBay that needed a full refurb (cleaning, dual delid, paste, pads, etc.) that cost me about 150$ and a couple hours of my free time, all in. I would be effing PISSED to pay that much to get a fat that isn't BC let alone one that was claimed to be refurbished that still had a Sony warranty sticker on it.
These companies obviously have a completely different definition of what refurbished is
I bought a steel series headset that was renewed. I had problems with the quality via wired connection, turns out the wire they sent me was faulty. Overall it was clean and seemed unused.

Recently bought a refurbished rdr1 game of the year edition disc set from Amazon and they work but not consistently at least it came with the undead nightmare map tho
Also the discs themselves looked brand new except for the middle rings which were a bit dirty but after I cleaned them they worked a bit better.

Bought a reverse compatible ps3 for parts costing $90. Slapped a new hard drive in with paste and works like a charm.

About 6 or 7 years ago I bought a 360 in like new condition from amazon. Looked more like someone had dragged it down the road and even smelled like cigarettes.

Years ago I bought my 80gb bc ps3 on Craigslist for $100 . Few days later it got the YLOD. I sent it to Sony to get fixed it only cost about $100 to fix and have it still to this day and it works perfectly.
Picked up a 160gb ps3 slim 2500, for £60 with postage. It’s in pretty good condition too.

I got mine from goodwill. Has a few scratches but as long as it works, it's fine
The CECHL model is quite good for a non-backward compatible model (like the CECHM, P and Q). It has the last revision of the 65nm RSX less prone to problems compared to the first 65nm RSX found in the CECHJ and CECHK models, is a fat model (so CFW compatible), doesn't heat much with renewed thermal paste and as a result doesn't make a ton of noise (just like the early slims). Still at that price it's a scam.
i bought a used 40 gb ps3 and everything came in as expected they even gave me an 80 gb model. They forgot the charging cable for the controller though

my ps3 phat broke cause i took the hdmi cord out multiple times trying to figure out how to hook it up to my elgato only the av cables worked so i played on potato quality untill i bought my ps3 slim
i heard that yellow light of death in most cases on ps3 backwards combatible consoles are from playing ps2 disc games on em
The PS3 did originally come with AV cables when brand new so it's understandable

The CPU just needs to be reballed. That normally fixes the issue 80% of the time.

Amazon is clearly using a company that doesnt know how to refurbish thats a shame but doubt amazon even looks at them unlike its warehouse products which through its returns process
i had one of these but the disc drive broke THEN we had to leave due to something my mom did. so R.I.P my ps3
I skipped the refurbishment and just kept mine from launch day. Still works great!
Amazon “renewed” program is a huge price-gouging scam. Amazon deactives “high priced” normal listings but allows ridiculous “renewed” seller pricing all the time.

@jrob0021 i have a 60gb phat cechc model i bought it a few months ago but since i got it, it really starts rampin up really quick the ps3 from the outside looks in pristine like condition with warranty sticker of sony still 100% intact, i believe it has never been opened before and i want to get it looked at like thermal paste get it completely cleaned out but we have nothing like that here in Belgium and i am scared to open it up myself in case i damage anything what can i do?

I had the same experience. The color display was a disaster it was not even refurbished but it wasn't even fixed I was very angry the amount of money I spent $200 and it was a disaster unfortunately but other than that I've had some good experiences

Boy have i had this happen with my dell optiplex. Ordered a 9020 got a 7020. Still good but then came the monitor. Ordered a 4:3 got a 16:9. Thanks amazon. Uk by the way is anyone is wondering.

eStarland sells a 40 GB model PS3 Fat for $77.95, and the 80 GB model for $84.95. So even cheaper than DKOldies and Lukie Games.
EDIT: If the PS3 only has 2 USB ports on the front, then it is not PS2 compatible. All the backwards compatible ones have 4 USB ports on the front(and in the cases of the CECHAxx, CECHCxx and the CECHExx also include flash drives which are not present on any of the other models). When they removed the PS2 compatibility completely, they also dropped it to 2 ports on the front. So if it's 2 ports, not PS2 compatible. Fastest way to tell at a glance. Also, it's mentioned at 3:24 that the model he got was a 40 GB model with an 80 GB drive. The CECHLxx model is actually an 80 GB model. The drive that was in this particular console is the correct size(can't say if it's the original, but the size is correct for the model number).
Well i Got for free 3 PS3 on Facebook marketplace,one of the PS3 is backward compatible(with extra fans)😍, 2/3 Works . Still for free its really good .
Shame Amazon, that's all I can say.
I bought what looked like a backwards compatible ps3 that's supposed to be refurbished and the product description supported that as well. My first red flag was on the tracking page, the wight was around 3.6 Kg (somewhat over 7lb) when the it should be over 5 k
Kg (11lb). So I checked it out and saw that the ps3 slim is 3.2 Kg (7.1 lb) which is concerning. When the package arrived I indeed saw a ps3 slim and it was missing some of those little rubber feets, the original warranty seal looked completely untouched. I sent it back and got my money back though.
US prices for consoles scare me. I can get an )G 80GB PS3 for £70 WITH OEM Controller. Hell. I can get a 120GB SLIM for the same price

I've bought an Atari 2600, Fat PS2, Nintendo, SNES, PS3 and an original Xbox. All were in great condition and work to this day. It really is up to you to research the person you are buying from. I never buy from anyone who isn't backed by Amazon return policy, has anything under a 95% rating and isn't described as Very good condition. Maybe I'm lucky but it's always worked for me.
