- The Panasonic Q! I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these consoles for a long time, and here we are! It's one of the coolest consoles I've ever seen.

Might be one of the coolest consoles I’ve ever seen. What do you think?
It's sad you JUST found one.. they sit in pawn shops all the time... people think its a expensive dvd player
@@MarioMadness1 im gonna have to keep an eye out now oh my lord
I remember wanting one of these back in the day. The design of it is the perfect / tasteful mesh of 2000's electronics with the mirror finishing and the blue leds.
Atleast now with the advent of 3d printers people are able to make parts for the DVD trays which are notorious / prone to breaking. Sadly one of the biggest flaws of the system
It's a cool collectors piece for the average person it doesn't seem worth it in 2023 with the current mods out there for the regular cube.
still want one myself but phew those prices are just insane. Speaking of cool consoles have you ever seen or played a sharp twin famicom "famicom/famicom disc all in one?" I picked one up a few years ago and that thing is sleek..
Holy grail of gamecubes indeed! man it's cool to see one of these fully working.
That console was def loved by the original owner. You are lucky to have that console in such good condition because of that.
Honestly, well worth the $800 you spent. It's in excellent condition, has a 3d printed replacement for something that often breaks, and a switch to change to NTSC region. Really great buy
That's what im saying but of course there's gonna be that 1 guy that says "ItS not OrIgInAl"
Yeah, at first I wondered what the hell he'd spend that much on but it seems like a cool hybrid to have. Playing movies and gaming in one device? That's all we could have asked for back in the day!
@@DubberRucks PS2:

@@DubberRucks The PS2, and Xbox would like a word with you.
@@eternalgamers10 And the laseractive, which is unironically something I'd pay $800 for before this Panasonic Q.
With the normal Gamecube. You can tell that Panasonic had a hand in making it. The disc release button was used in Panasonics portable cd players back in the 90s. I had one and loved that feature.
Yes, Panasonic provided the drives for the Gamecube, hence the partnership. I was always a big fan of Panasonic electronics, but I never had one of these bad boys!
“Everything is chrome in the future!”😂
That got me. 💀😁
I remember seeing these back in the day. Thought they were interesting. I had forgotten all about them. GC/DVD combined. I believe the audio is 2.1 (analog). The second pair of RCAs are for a dual room setup. The surround button only widens the stereo field and/or adds chorus and/or reverb. Digital out I would assume is 5.1. Cinema is picture adjustment.
Love your videos, love the older gaming tech, keep it up💯💯
@4:34 I had no idea this thing even had the capability to use a GBA Player, let alone that it actually had its own specific one.
@4:50 I didn't know about the controller either, I just assumed it only used normal or Wavebird GameCube controllers. I thought I knew about all of the officially released Nintendo hardware but you taught me of two new ones today!
I was always curious about this console. Thank you for showing it in action!
I always wanted one of these when they annouced them back in the day. So cool and honestly im tempted to buy one instead of upgrading my phone.
you should buy it before i do
@@499y60iogbuyI think I had my eye on the same one u were
I think I do recall seeing one in a magazine back then. I've heard about it plenty since, but more in recent times than back then for sure. I think I was more excited for the PS2 though.
you don't need a transformer for the power as long as you have a japanese power brick for that specific thing it'll only take the neccesary power i do it with my famicom and super famicom
I've bought some consoles from Japan that were trashed and broken to refurb them . I think that Japanese sellers just tend to put consoles up for sale that are in good to great condition and then people make the assumption that all Japanese consoles are well taken care of . Logically the majority of Panasonic Qs were adult owned because of the MSRP of 39,800 yen . It cost more in 2001 than either the Gamecube at 25,000 yen or PS2 at 29,000 yen .
I worked in the warehouse of a large electronic retailer when this was released. Apparently it was never released in my country but I swear I remember seeing it in that warehouse.
Honestly it's not worth $800 but it's absolutely amazing and beautiful from the early 2000s
i had one of these for modchip modding a few years back and i was the only one to lay my hands on it. i was very proud to work on one of these.
And Versus was a cool movie :D !
Hey Jacob, reviewing your footage, it looks like the DVD function is actually a region 2 player. That's a hybrid I never expected to see. 😁
Why? The console was a Japanese exclusive and Japan runs the region 2 code. NTSC codes for games are a different story.
Amazing! Didn't even know anything like this existed!
Neither did I. What a cool concept realised.
Looks pretty cool!
:D - a dream item, for sure; for a collectors item. There are cheaper and more expensive versions - there also seems to be a few different model numbers (not sure what the differences are though; if any). Regarding Region 2 DVDs: these are mostly for Europe AND Japan, therefore those would be the region coded DVDs that should work okay. If you have any from most parts of Europe or Japan then they should play okay. Cinema mode might only be for picture, as Dialogue Enhancer is for sound. Just some thoughts on this one.
If you see the toggle switch on the back of this gamecube it has a region switch to make it North American.
@@ibapreppieOnly for GC mode, DVD region lock is separate :)
It reminds me of the PSX. That was a console that came out. Before the playstation 3 it was only a Japan exclusive. And it was similar to the Panasonic nintendo game cube. But the PSX could even Be connected to a television and watch TV out of it.
Man, always wanted one of these. How awesome.
Think you did alright on the price vs condition, totally worth it imo. its more worth it then spending that amount on 2 or 3 consoles from DKo :p
so yeah, i approve.
I think even dumpster diving might prove more beneficial than DK at this rate lol
Great video! Where did you get that transformer? I’ve been in the market for one for a while now
I actually happen to import DVDs from the U.K. often, and how I do it is change my location to U.K. and then shop there. After I find one to buy, I switch back to U.S.A. and then buy it. I buy them all on eBay.
That is a nice looking console nice find
I remember being able to buy this back in the day for $1000 with import costs. I love how this still holds its value after all this time for such a niche product.
That's one of the holy grails of gaming right there, congrats!!
I think at this moment in time we can now appreciate how absolutely stunning that piece of kit is, i remember my mate had one thought it was cool
It's like a Hi-Fi with a built in gamecube
I love quirky things like this. I'd love to have one but I'm happy with my Gamecube with Gameboy Player and Everdrive cartridges!
I modded my GC when it was still pretty new, bought a Lik-Sang full size disc clear purple case which I tied in some LED's, also had a mod chip which I could play "jolly roger discount" discs on and it could play DVD's too if I did a disc swap thingy but never did either, keep meaning to do the Pico mod and put in some new decent LED's. I even did the two controllers with Lik-Sang clear purple shells but no LED's on either them, still works surprisingly as daughter fires up daily to feed and breed her Chao on Sonic Adventure 2. I got kinda dispirited with it when after spending a lot of money on Skies of Arcadia the bloody game is bugged and months of gameplay out the window a la Xbox Pirates of the Caribbean (yeah Bethesda cheers for that one) Lucky for me I can play SoA on Dreamcast but that is buggy as hell too :(
(3:52) You can probably look up insteuctions for unlocking the region lock on a Panasonic DVD player of the time and try those instructions, though they will likely require the remote control.
Hopefully one day I'll be buying one of those. I am a massive gamecube and dreamcast fan.
I didn't even know that existed really cool I need it
reminds me of the old 'Shuttle PC's' X Game Cube
That's one nice Console I've never seen this before
I have two Japanese PS3’s one PS4 , GameCube and N64 systems zero issues with power had for sometime now plugged directly into my outlet no converters .
Isn't that one really rare
It is
Not like he says it 20 times in the video.
Also, 100k units isnt rare lol
@@L4ftyOne it is, the normal GameCube sold nearly 30m units
Not rare but desirable
if Nintendo released this instead of the standard gamecube they probs would of had a much better chance at winning that generation console war
no
No, not really. This thing failed because it was $400 while a standard Gamecube was $200, so it was cheaper to just buy a GameCube and DVD Player separately. Or just buy a PS2, which was $200 and could play DVDs out of the box. Not to mention it wasn’t very well made, there’s a reason half the ones you see on eBay can’t even play DVDs anymore, even though it’s the main selling point; the tray is very fragile
@@IceBlueLugia gamecube was only £130 in UK ! got to love the old exchange rates
@@IceBlueLugia i mean if it was comparable price wise like say $250. defo wouldnt work at $400
I would love to have one of these I have a soft spot for gamecube consoles It was my first console I got into gaming
My dream console to get. This looks beautiful
The panasonic Q is my favorite console ever made, it's so cool.
man this makes me want to bust out my Q now to. I should go and test it out along with my super red fat ps2
A snack that smiles back, goldfish!
Imagine the wall adapter not working and the gamecube frying itself instantly
Dude, nice!
Any link for the transformer you used?
Honestly wish I had a new video game console, I love video games. :( Since I was a kid
Always wanted one of these and a PSX. Doubt I'll ever buy them though.
Something about the DVD Player: The DVD you ordered is NTSC Region 1, but in Japan they use Region 2. So, it can't play!
I suppose that if you put a UK DVD (UK also is Reg. 2 but PAL), it would work. (My Reg. 2 PAL DVD player reads normally NTSC discs!
Also, why didn't you play a music CD on the Panasonic Q?
I wonder if you can mod it, to play ntsc, pal and ntsc-j games and dvds?
did you get the Panasonic controller and the remote control?
This is cool!
When these first shipped all you had to do was hold down the power button and it would boot up in English, its on the lid of my original box.obviously ntsc so didn’t matter if it was japanese games or usa games.
Get yourself a cheap wavebird controller for this as that works well.I use it primarily for games so dvd movies never bothered me.
You need to look for NTSC-J DVDs for future reference lol
I Never Had This Cube DVD Player, But The Only Game I Usually Play Is Mario Kart Double Dash
Where did you get the transformer?
I remember seeing this in a local nerdy indy game store when it was first released. For years people I said I had made this up. "There's a Panasonic version of the GC that plays DVDs as well", which was met with "Bullshit!" most of the time.
why not google it to prove to them ?
I just bought a Panasonic for $800, got it imported from japan too
Not a bad deal. DK Oldies would try to sell a "refurbished" Gamecube with a non-working drive and a cracked case for $800.
And when challenged will say that they definitely do refurbish them. 😁
Neat that they made it but a shame the two parts are so separated. The greater computational power of a gamecube versus your average 2001 DVD player would've made a much more responsive player, and maybe some other useful features that could be offloaded to the gamecube's hardware. Kinda like the PS2 was truly a console and DVD player together, where this is a console and DVD player crammed in a box, but completely separate.
U were right about the subwoofer port that’s what the text says
It's similar to the PSX. A lot of those councils are really hard to find in working condition. A lot of them are broken. And it's really hard to find part for that console. And a lot of people do not know how to repair them. Basically the PSX is just a playstation 2. Mix with a playstation 3. The last time I saw one they were going for a $120. I think now they're going for more money.
this and the spice orange are the 2 cubes i want
ppl should mod wii's & wii u's with this case and support dvd playback, gamecube controllers etc
Japanese people really do take wonderful care of their items. It’s why the secondhand market is so large there, and also more friendly
I remember when these things were $200-$300 to import brand new in box.
Those are the best looking consoles ever! 🤗
can you not change the region code on the DVD player i know some dvd players allow you to change the regone codes 4 times
My dream is to buy one of those. One day, if God allow me to buy one, I will definitely buy one of those. Nice one Jake.
Now you need NTSC mod 😎 (If that’s even possible)
So basically most of the extra space is to house the DVD drive. Interesting
Just get DVD's from the UK they are region 2 if you wanted to play DVD's
I had never heard of that before.
Anybody will ever remember the period of time were pretty much anything that took a DVD had the divot in the tray to accept mini DVDs? What are mini DVDs you may ask? Why they are the form factor that GameCube discs used. Companies were so certain that they were going to catch on due to compression algorithms. That for like 3 or so years. Every DVD device was manufactured with that divot. Those are also the DVD players/witers that GameCube pirates sought after.
At least you can play GameCube games and DVD in one system
Reminded of the Sony all-in-one Tv with built in Playstation 2 (Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300) somewhat too; as this also had both in one. (As opposed to a separate console). (Plus you could add one of the Panasonic Q's and have a Playstation 2 and Gamecube system that would play DVDs! (Or XBox etc). Just a thought!).
@@plan7a Also the NES/ Tv released way back in the 80s
Light up ports baby! that touch is worth at least $500
Watch out for the brittle plastics inside. The DVD Drives will fail and so will the plastic from the rails. Mine had those issues until i fixed it.
Did you even watch the video?
@BRAVOROBINSON yeah thanks still what I said is true is it not? Or do you not own one and can't speak to it ?
He explained how those things broke before and they were fixed with 3D printed parts
@@zincmann well then youd know the rails inside was already replaced.
@@BRAVOROBINSON it was a general statement but thanks for trolling chief
awsome device for its time
pretty cool
You should try to hand-build something similar and see how much cheaper you can do it for.
well its only 800 dollars if you look around, and rack up 100$ 8X and there ya go, and donr fortget tax :D
@@drewscentral5587 *sigh*
This is one of the best Y2K artifacts ever made.
Apparently you can get not region locked DVD players for it 10:51
There you go now that ones worth it only thing rare bout it is it plays dvds lol
Yep this console is very rare I think it's a fair price
MGS version . I think it came with Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes game .
I can see DKoldies listing this for $42,068
Ughhhhh you lucky sob, id loveeeeee to have ittt
Can you put a switch for English and Japanese dvds
That error means its region locked, the only way to bypass it is by using some DVD's.
Man's bought an expensive DVD player that plays GameCube games
Quick tip, if you have to order another Region 2 disc in your life - Just buy a German DVD. Same region and no NTSC manufacturer has any reason to print German texts on a case. Especially, because German discs run on PAL.
Thats cheap for a Panasonic Q. The Gameboy Player for the Panasonic Q goes for 1200. Nice toggle switch on the back to make your Panasonic Q NA region.
I have this with complete manuals accessories and box. This was really rate considering that this is Japanese exclusive
You wont be able to play US dvds but you can play ones from UK, Europe and South Africa as they share the same reigon code, unfortunately this is different for gaming
it always confuses me how our consoles in the U.S. can get so beat on. Like I set mine on the furniture and it doesn’t move for years other than dusting lmao what are people doing to them
This is really cool albeit id probably never spend that much on one lol.
I remember this but it was very rare. And no ati stiker.
This is an alien GameCube
Looks like a mini oven
