That is not true. Šalina is rarely called šála or šmirgl. Drak - dragon is name for the latest local type of šalina. The same as at the begining of the video.

    Brno!
I’m Hungarian from Slovakia, but during Communist Czechoslovak times my grandad studied at University in Brno during the 60s, to this day he talks about how it’s a great and pretty city; with even better beer (he says he can’t remember half of his studies for that reason 😅)
Love to see it on the channel 👍🏼

Talking about Hungarians I recently visited Budapest (for the fifth time). I have to tell, your capital is my favorite city in Europe! (I love Prague too, but Budapest's vibes is closer to me) Every time I there something amaze me. The food is superior, the cultural life sparkling, nice people, interesting badass history, alien language. But you have to know the city, or you have to get a Hungarian friend to fully enjoy that city because the lots of hidden gems. I was lucky because my brother studied there. I hope Honest Guide will make a vlog about it soon.

I've visited Brno in September 2020, next to Teplice and other sights Czech Republic has to offer. Brno was so much more relaxed compared to Prague (which I've visited pre- and during the pandamic). Excellent public transport and just a clean and beautiful city. Some plan to do a '2nd cities tour' and I highly recommend Brno to be on that list! Good prices, ambience, nice people and hospitality!
Ps. Don't flood Brno with tourists, it's really nice and quiet compared to Prague, because it's the 2nd city 😜

You forgot to mention that it was in Brno that Gregor Mendel did his work that demonstrated the basics of what we now know as Mendelian Genetics, with his experiments on crossing pea plants in the monastery garden there. Also, well worth the ride through the countryside between these two cities!

That trick of reading the clock is word for word what a resident of Brno told me 😂
Last time I visited I’ve had a forgettable evening in a bar that doesn’t exist (forgettable because of a little bit too much alcohol maybe slightly yes) and I’ve enjoyed the vibe in the city since 1994, it truly is a wonderful place on earth.
Gastronomical the city has grown to be a pearl as well (back in the nineties I can remember it was more basic potato and meat and vegetables, and the local McDonalds was bombed with red paint - which now I understand more than I did as a kid), and I also absolutely loved the murals on the walls throughout the city. The old Sovjet era commercial murals.
West of the city there is a nice lake, a hilly forest and a (quite famous) race track so the greater area has something to offer for everyone.

MotoGP put Brno on the map for me. I had a fun day there even though it was winter. The labyrinth under the Cabbage Market and Villa Tugendhat were pretty cool too.

A really nice city indeed. A great mix of baroque and avant-garde architecture exists here. Remind the viewers of Villa Tugendhat. The garden in the rear of Villa Tugendhat offers a grand view of the city's center. Also of note is Hotel Avion, as well as other 1920's/1930's avant-garde buildings neighbouring Hotel Avion (a short walk from the main square in city center). On the city center is another famous 1920s avant-garde building (the Moravian Bank building) is I believe is have apartments on the upper floors. The main entrance of the building has a cool promenade, too.

Cool, I would love to go to Brno next time I'm in Czech Republic! It is also the native city of several great scientists and artists...
For other videos, you really should introduce other cities too. I was in Olomouc this summer, what a lovely place! Beautiful monuments and streets, big parks, many coffehouses and bars... A very pleasant stay.

Been there actually.. used to work for AVG (now Avast). The couple of days I was there I enjoyed. Nice mid-evil city. Friendly people and ofcourse good pilsner. Shame there's little direct flights going there. Always needed to fly to Vienna and travel by cab to Brno for a decent flight.

Super Video Brno/ Brünn. Yes if i can choose between Stropramen (from Prague) or Starobrno, i would always choose Starobrno. But, Brno, Capital of Morava for me is more than beer... the best vines of CZ (unfortuneable there only a few) are coming from Morava. Every time we go there, we are happy to drink good (and reasonable priced) vine on the street, not always possible in prague. We love that you show other parts of the country.
Please again Janek and Honza, we have seen Krakow, Linz, Brno... when will you go West (PetShop Boys...) and make Video of Nuremberg/ Nürnberg? Its so historical linked with Prague.

Yes, but there are lots of international students and employees, as it's a huge university town with several universities, and has a lot of customer support centers for big companies and research jobs that attract international candidates.

@@nikkibee187 oh so basically there would be a lot of international students or commercial buildings correct?

    • @beth12svist
      @beth12svist Před rokem +1

@@yatharth2538 Yeah, generally lots of expats. One great result of "students rather than tourists" is that the restaurant prices in Brno are a lot more reasonable, even smack in the centre. Let's hope it stays that way... but I think it probably will, because Brno doesn't have the fairy-tale-like draw Prague has for a lot of people. Brno is quirky and weird - for people who love Brno, it's a huge part of its appeal, but it's not a universal appeal.
