Probably have to redesign the dimensions of the inside of the grip to get a mag like that to fit even if the outside dimensions are very similar to the hellcat and p365
The addition of only 2 extra rounds is pretty skimpy considering the amount of length it adds to the grip. I've been using the MagGuts +2 kit for several years and that adds barely anything to the grip because it uses a much better designed spring and a follower that takes up hardly any space inside the magazine. It would be great if you could do a comparison video between these two products. I haven't used the Xtech kit but I have found the MagGuts one to be 100% reliable.
I had a lot of trouble with the older gen magguts kits, but the 2nd gen they released last year has been very reliable. I've put probably 2k rounds through my 5 magguts mags. Great product, highly recommend.
I actually bought one of their +5 Kits for my M&P 9mm Full size, the floorplate of the magazine required a lot of fitting plus the spring pressure is so high I can only fit +4 instead of 5. Runs flawlessly though.
The 12 round mag for my Sig Sauer P365 came disassembled so you could configure it for the XL or standard P365. I only shot the spring across the room once! Make sure you look at the follower before removing it so you can reassemble things properly and not have to grumble and take it apart to do it right. 😁 Edit: it's nice to see another lefty around.
I would also agree with the other comment by Ken, I would be very interested in you doing a review of the Magguts +2 Magazine extension for the M&P Shield. I installed the kit in my Shield back in 2017 and after a couple loading/unloading cycles to break-in the proprietary springs, it has been 100% reliable for me after hundreds of 9mm rounds over the years. I think they are a much more compelling choice primarily because they barely add any length at all to the overall length of the magazine relatively speaking. In my opinion they actually cause the M&P Shield grip to hit a very ideal "sweet spot" where I can *barely* get a solid 3 finger grip below the trigger guard. (Obviously this can vary depending on hand size, I usually consider my hands to be of medium size) Because of the added support of having 3 fingers on the grip the Shield became a much more comfortable gun to shoot and I actually prefer it over the stock setup because it allows me to control recoil better between shots.
so I've seen a number of guys when demonstrating a full mag +1, they tend to do what Russel did, chamber one from the mag > eject the mag > top off > reinsert. I always would just hand load one in the chamber, drop the slide, and insert mag. is there some reason I shouldn't be doing that? I mean it makes sense to me to do it my way, but I pretty much always see people do like Russel did. Just wondering if I'm missing something.
extra stress on the extractor, since it has to spring over the edge of case instead of have the round slip into the extractor slot. I am not sure of the extended durability damage done by having the extractor spring over but why not take an extra second to do the top off mag method.
@@brandontroka9639 Also if it's a carry gun you'll be loading and unloading it a lot without firing and the rim on the brass is more likely get get dinged up that way. It's not really a problem for range ammo, but it is if you reload
Russell is a man of culture, ever since I saw that we follow some of the same accounts on Instagram I knew he was a real connoisseur of internet culture.
I bought one of those for my M&P9c, to bring it to 17rd capacity. Its okay, there is some side to side movement in relation to the sides of the mag in the mag well.
Honestly, the Hyve mag extensions for the Shield are better, if for no other reason than the fact that they get rid of the movable spacer for the 8rd mag I've pinched myself with that spacer on numerous occasions during mag change practice, especially when working it in and out of a IWB mag holder.
Magguts is the best IMO. They can have +1 spring kits that add no additional length, and +2 kits that add about 1/4 inch. My gun is carried 10+1 and is the same size as a factory 8 round.
This is good info for Californians at least: 1. Can't get the S15 mags in California because Freedom Week is over. 2. Can't get the 43x without blowing most of a paycheck on a private party transfer because it's not (and won't be) on the CA handgun roster. We can still get the Shield 1.0 and add extensions to mags as long as they stay under 11 rounds.
I will never trust anything made by promag. Maybe some of their stuff isn’t horrible, but I’ve yet to see it. Based on my observations, all of their products are shit and lead to failures & malfunctions.
Would not coloring the dots (front or back) in with a red or green sharpy be a better alternative to alter the color between the 2 and still have the benefits of the dots? I did that on my rifle and I think I am getting a faster sight alighnment because of it when I use the open sights.
I was going to make some jack ass comment , But my brain took over. Thanks for the content guys! Nice review! Can't wait for the next Made In America review!
I put S&W oem springs in my Promag 10 rounders and they comfortably hold 11 rounds and feed reliably. I did encounter issues with the stock promag spring.
It helps if you at least kind of pretend to not be reading off a piece of paper. Unrelated, but the MP had one of the worst triggers of any gun I ever bought. I couldn’t get rid of that thing quick enough.
I mean, it's not a bad product. It works as advertised. But I'm interested how the printing of weapon changes based on the longer grip. I normally carry a shield with the 8 round mag plus the one in the chamber (3 rnds for 3 bad guy philosophy.) I have often considered trading down the 7 rnd mag but I'm a tall guy so printing normally is not an issue. But I feel like if I really wanted to get that extra capacity, I'd just get the M&P9C (which has been considered) so that the grip is not as long. Like I said, product works, but is it practical?
Buys a gun as small as possible Hunts aftermarket to get the gun an extra large magazine Gun is now out of proportion and the grip sticks out like a sour thumb You are the judge if this makes any sense
The shield is a great carry gun I carried one for years. But now I carry a Glock 48 with the shield arms 15 round mag. It's hard to beat the 43x or 48 for size and capacity.
Taking care not to launch the spring across the room, yeah... about that lol. I have a way with springs & jesus clips and it always seems to take me forever to find the silly bastards too.

The "X" is for XTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Somebody needs to make a propper 1 1/2 Stack mag for the shield.

I thought Shield Arms was currently in the process of that
I love how this magazine is designed, it's simple, reliable, and easy to swap out if anything breaks.

Yeah but the magguts costs $2 more, we're not all made of money dude.
@@tavelkyosoba Sure, 2 bucks is 2 bucks. That's like 5 rounds of 9mm these days.

I gotta agree on the length...I'd just get a 9c or 40 c and use full sized mags with a xgrip.
What about people with larger hanfs? I know I apreciate a longer grip instead of having to 2 finger something.

I forwarded this to my accountant, who carries one of these tiny M&Ps.
The 8 rounder with extension reminds me of 10 round magazines for the Sig p239.

You don't know Russell? Are you new here?
You need to look at the magguts +2 extension. Only adds .25 of an inch from the bottom. Mine has worked perfectly for about 1000 rounds.
so I've seen a number of guys when demonstrating a full mag +1, they tend to do what Russel did, chamber one from the mag > eject the mag > top off > reinsert. It’s possible to damage extractors by dropping the slide on a round in the chamber

Frankieare don’t do it to the same round over and over but you should rotate them out and use that ammo up every couple years.
My shitty old 1911 would take that round and make it disappear down the barrel and i had to mash out the round with a stick
I'm considering these pretty strongly since they fit the 7 and 8mag. Thanks for the instruction.

With the X-tech extension on my 8 round magazine, I haven't had any more issues with the spacer moving or pinching
Now with the Shield Arms S15 15-round flush fit mags for the Glock 43X all kinds of "extensions" and guns with less capacity feel completely outdated.
sgthl still hundreds of thousands of Shields in circulation. People that constantly rotate through firearms are the minority of purchasers.

For the rear while dots, holding a flame to them will cover them with soot.
Check out Magguts for S&W Shield. It's an upgraded follower and spring kit, +1 round without any changes to the outer of the magazine.
Promag sells 9 round mags for the shield 2.0 in 40 s&w, an one lives in my gun. I carry it like that concealed too.
I will never trust anything made by promag. Maybe some of their stuff isn’t horrible, but I’ve yet to see it. Based on my observations, all of their products are shit and lead to failures & malfunctions.
The reviews I've seen on promags have been mixed. People saying that they don't feed well it the slide doesn't look back. I guess you got a good one.
I preferr hyve for the +2 rounds and with the metal one piece butt extension, even carry it on duty

I colored my front with red fluorescent and left the back white. It really helps you focus on the front.
I run a striker ind extension on my 7 round mag makes it much more comfortable, +2 is also nice.
I'd been missing Phagan!
Where can I buy a 11 or 13 round magazine extension that will fit in this gun?
Instructions unclear, now my monitor has a hole in it!
What about the gap at the bottom of the mag?

Good work Russell!
Hey Russel, instead of darkening or getting rid of the rear sights, could you just change the color of one of them? Or does that cause other problems?
